The main research goal set in the article was to consider the reasons for the intensive development of the FinTech sector and the classification the BigTech sector − which may pose a greater threat to traditional financial institutions than the activities of FinTech companies. Surveys conducted among FinTech companies show that they have a positive impact on the financial market, leading, among others to the better adaptation of financial products and services to the needs of consumers. Companies from the FinTech sector increasingly cooperate with banks in the field of implementing financial innovations. Therefore, the financial products and services offered are relatively cheaper and delivered to consumers faster − especially during the period of progressing digitization of the financial market. FinTech companies note that consumers are attached to traditional financial institutions that have the status of public trust institutions and are characterized by a high level of reputation and stability.

Cele badawcze artykułu stanowiły ocena przyczyn intensywnego rozwoju sektora FinTech oraz próba zdefiniowania sektora BigTech, który może stanowić większe zagrożenie dla tradycyjnych instytucji finansowych aniżeli działalność spółek FinTech. Z badań ankietowych przeprowadzonych wśród spółek FinTech wynika, że mają one pozytywny wpływ na rynek finansowy, prowadząc m.in. do lepszego dostosowania produktów i usług finansowych do potrzeb konsumentów. Spółki z sektora FinTech coraz częściej współpracują z bankami we wdrażaniu innowacji finansowych.
Telematyka i tzw.

Combination of modern solutions, new technologies and insurance (InsurTech) is the manifestation of innovation, as well as the sign of present times. Telematics and the socalled Internet of Things have already been widely applied for the benefit of insurance sector. The application of solutions based on blockchain, biometric and voice identification, intelligent OCR (Optical Character Recognition) systems, or virtual reality are also of interest to many companies. Equally important are, and will be, the technologies using artificial intelligence in the process of sales or decision making, as well as the advanced analytics (big data). The number of solutions in the area of new technologies, which are successfully used in the insurance industry worldwide, is growing along with the development of the Internet, social and communication media. On the one hand, they make life easier for clients, and on the other, they can influence the level of premiums or the amount of compensations paid.
Business accelerators created by banks are increasingly an alternative to traditional forms of support for newly created business entities. These organisations are crucial for the process of providing assistance to FinTech businesses, which are characterised by high risk. The analysis of the range of support offered by selected organisations indicates that these institutions are not a homogenous instrument for promoting entrepreneurship, while focusing on the individual needs of startups may be beneficial for both banking and FinTech sector. The aim of this publication is to present business accelerators created by banks as an alternative institutional form of support for FinTech.
As businesses are actively incorporating technology as means of cost reduction and service provision, financial institutions have lately been one of the most active institutions in utilising information technology (IT) to their advantage. Although technology presented financial institutions with many opportunities and opened the door for a new hybrid sector to be formed, this came with its share of disadvantages one of which revolves around cyber security. Combined with the complex nature of products and services offered online through non-traditional financial institutions, this meant that adjusting the regulatory framework governing such products, services and institutions has now become a must. Since the current regulatory framework applicable on online banking does not differ much from that applied on bricks-and-mortar ones especially in terms of money laundering and deposit protection schemes, this paper recommends a hybrid, tech-centred, regulatory framework that is specifically designed to cater for financial institutions in order to offer users of these platforms higher levels of protection and suggests the creation of a joint regulatory and supervisory body that oversees and regulates activities of FinTechs. Such change should take into consideration the higher risk factor associated with online banking and the nature of service provision. The paper in its unique approach aims to inspire and influence change to further enhance customer protection and service provision of online banks.
Theoretical background: Contemporary financial systems have been going through a period of dynamic changes since the beginning of this century. A special role in this process is played by technological innovations, especially the process of digitalization of financial systems, which resulted in the development of FinTech lenders. These entities are active in various segments of the financial services market, including the area of consumer loans (FinTech lenders). The conducted research confirms the dynamic development of FinTech lending activity worldwide and indicates the leading position of Poland among the countries of Central and Eastern Europe in terms of the volume of digital lending. A review of the source literature shows a small number of scientific studies devoted to identifying the reasons underlying the growing interest of consumers in the offer of FinTech lenders. The perceived research gap became the motivation to undertake research addressing this topic in relation to the Polish market of non-banking digital loan services. Purpose of the article: Determining the place and importance of trust and personal innovativeness for consumers’ decisions to use digital loan services offered by FinTech lenders in Poland. Research methods: Critical analysis of the source literature, descriptive and comparative analysis, diagnostic survey as well as simple statistical methods, i.e. analysis of the structure or Kendall’s Tau correlation analysis. The empirical data were collected in May 2022 using the CAWI (computer-assisted web interview) method. The research sample was representative and included 1,000 representatives of Polish population. Main findings: Among the factors determining the adoption decisions of FinTech lenders’ clients, two groups of constructs can be distinguished. The first one consists of classic prerequisites (e.g. perceived ease of use [PEU], perceived usefulness [PU]), identified for a wide range of entities offering financial services based on information technologies. The second group consists of the factors attributed mainly to FinTech lenders, among which the leading position is taken by expressed trust (T) and personal innovativeness (PI). The analyzes carried out in the article confirmed that the expressed trust and personal innovativeness represent the statistically significant factors influencing the decisions made by Poles related to using digital loan services offered by FinTech lenders. The influence of these constructs on the adopted attitudes is a function of their mutual relationship, based on the reciprocal reinforcement of these factors. The conducted research also resulted in developing the economic and demographic profile of a person using the services of FinTech lenders. It is a man, aged 25–34, a university graduate earning an income exceeding PLN 5,000 and residing in a city populated by over 500,000 residents.
The rapid development of modern technology and the increasing number of FinTechs can bring new competition challenges to incumbents. First, the author identifies the most important technologies implemented in the financial sector, such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, APIs, cloud computing, mobile technology and DLT. Next, she analyses BigTechs’ customer-centric platform-based business model and its impact on competition in the financial sector. The expansion of BigTechs into finance should lower the barriers to entry by reducing information and transaction costs, and thereby enhance financial inclusion. However, the long-term impact could be negative as BigTechs can exploit their market power to increase user switching costs and/or to exclude potential competitors. The impact of smaller FinTechs on competition seems to be more beneficial as they rather collaborate than compete with incumbents (especially with banks) while bank – FinTech alliances aim at improving the prospects and the market value of both FinTechs and banks.
The article looks at regulatory sandbox, i.e. a new technology which seeks to provide companies with the ability to test products and services in a controlled environment and aims at increasing regulatory standards in financial services. The article begins with explaining the rationale behind the development of regulatory technology. Next, the author provides an analysis of regulatory sandbox. She discusses international experiences with particular attention given to the British model, presents possible outline of Polish regulatory sandbox, and looks at the prospects for establishing European framework.
The paper looks at the selected issues connected with the digital economy, namely innovations such as FinTech and blockchain, as a possible direction of its development. First, the author discusses FinTech, a technology that aims to compete with traditional methods of delivery of financial services. Next, he raises the question of blockchain that records and maintains transactions made in cryptocurrency in a peer-to-peer network. The relevant definitions, key areas, regulatory framework, benefits and challenges related to both innovations are also presented.
The aim of the article is to present the idea of the functioning of Fin-Tech firms in the market for financial services, with particular emphasis on consumer finance. Globalization and technology cause changes in a number of markets, goods or services. An interesting situation exists in the financial markets, where there are not only institutions subject to restrictive regulations (eg. banks), but also many non-banks. Banks emphasize the concept of a level playing field for all market actors who provide similar services and take similar risks. The question is whether banks are sufficiently agile, flexible and cost competitive. Banks do not always keep up with changes, technology companies can therefore take over part of their clients. However, banks enjoy greater confidence, as safe traders, which are subject to regulation and supervision by the state. The activity of Fin-Tech firms raises questions about the level playing field, the assessment of competition and cooperation, as well as the desirability of subjecting these new competitors regulation of banks, insurance companies, investment firms, payment institutions and electronic money institutions.

The aim of the article is to identify the relationship between the level of regulation of various segments of the FinTech industry and the level of development of this sector. To address this research problem, the paper analyses the scope of regulation in 14 segments of the FinTech sector, and based on that, develops the FinTech Regulation Index for the individual European Union countries. Then, the paper uses this index to examine if there is a relationship between the level of regulation and the level of FinTech development in the various European Union countries. The econometric analysis confirmed the initial hypothesis that there is a significant relationship between the level of FinTech sector regulation and the level of its development.
This paper explores how traditional banks perceive digital-only banks and the potential impact of digital-only banks on the retail segment of the banking sector. To obtain the main goal, we conducted in-depth semi-structured interviews with managers and directors representing different traditional banks with profound insight into the bank digitalisation process. The results indicate that, for traditional banks, the development of digital-only banks does not pose a threat or challenge that can significantly undermine their business. A high level of user experience, innovativeness, and lack of obsolete processes and technologies are the main advantages of digital-only banks that attract retail customers. At the same time, the limited range and scope of services provided and issues with compliance and trust translate into limited development opportunities.
Aim/purpose - This study aims to explore the impact of FinTech developments on Türkiye's economic growth from 2012:Q2 to 2024:Q1. While FinTech offers faster, cheaper, and more flexible financial services, its rapid evolution may pose risks, such as economic instability and growth limitations, stemming from digital credit and speculative investments. Design/methodology/approach - An index representing FinTech developments is constructed using the PCA method, incorporating eight distinct variables. Gross fixed capital formation, labor force, government expenditure, and inflation are included as control variables. The study employs the ARDL bounds testing approach to examine long-run relationships, and robustness checks are performed using FMOLS, DOLS, and CCR methods. Finally, causality relationships are investigated using the Toda-Yamamoto test. Findings - The analysis reveals that FinTech developments and economic growth are closely linked in the long run, exhibiting a strong bidirectional causality relationship. However, FinTech has a dampening effect on economic growth, emphasizing its disruptive potential in Türkiye. These findings are consistent across alternative estimation methods. Research implications/limitations - The study highlights the importance of regulating FinTech innovations to mitigate their adverse effects on economic stability. However, the research faces limitations, including the lack of comprehensive data that better captures the FinTech ecosystem and the inability to use panel data due to the single-country focus. Future studies could address these limitations by incorporating richer datasets or conducting cross-country analyses for broader insights. Originality/value/contribution - This research contributes to the literature by developing a unique FinTech index and providing empirical evidence on its impact on economic growth in a developing economy. It underscores the critical role of effective regulation and the development of an inclusive financial ecosystem in ensuring sustainable growth.

Technological innovations, the digitization process of financial systems as well as changes in consumer preferences and choices of payment forms have resulted in the emergence of new services, including mobile payments. BLIK system, managed by the company Polski Standard Płatności sp. z o.o. (Polish Payments Standard Ltd.) is one of the organizers and operators of such payments. This FinTech is a dynamically growing leader in the domestic mobile payments market and an important part of the digital transformation experienced by the CEE countries. The author’s review of the source literature demonstrates weakness related to the scientific recognition of problems concerning the identification, analysis and impact assessment of the perceived risks and benefits that constitute the rationale for using BLIK mobile payments by the representatives of generational cohorts of Poles. These problems define the research purpose of this article. The study adopts the research perspective set by the theory of reasoned action (TRA) and the net worth model (NVM), and also uses critical analysis of the source literature, descriptive and comparative analysis, a diagnostic survey and statistical methods, i.e. structure analysis or Kendall’s Tau correlation analysis. Empirical data were collected in 2023 using the CAWI method. They originated from a representative survey sample of 1,000 Poles. The conducted studies confirmed the validity of using TRA theory and NVM model in the process of identifying the adoption factors of innovative payment instruments. They proved that the consumers’ perceptions of risk as well as monetary and non-monetary benefits strongly influence their decisions to use mobile payments, while both this perception and use show differences for the particular generational cohorts of surveyed Poles.
Effective regulation of the financial market is clearly crucial to innovation and the future success of the financial services industry and, in particular, FinTech companies. Prior to the global financial crisis, financial innovation was viewed very positively, resulting in many markets in the deregulatory approach to financial regulation. During the crisis, the regulatory pendulum swang to the other extreme. Dramatic technological change has spurred the development of financial technology companies (FinTech). FinTech and other financial services providers profoundly challenge the current regulatory paradigm. Financial regulators are increasingly seeking to balance the traditional regulatory approaches to financial stability and consumer protection with promoting growth and innovation. The resulting regulatory innovations include technology, innovation hubs, regulatory sandboxes, and special charters. This paper analyses new regulatory approaches, structured experimentalism (such as sandboxes), and the development of specific new regulatory frameworks.

FinTech i inni dostawcy usług finansowych otwarcie kwestionują obecny paradygmat regulacyjny. Organy nadzorcze coraz częściej starają się zrównoważyć tradycyjne podejście regulacyjne do stabilności finansowej i ochrony konsumentów z promowaniem wzrostu i innowacji. Wynikające z tego innowacje regulacyjne obejmują technologie, centra innowacji, piaskownice regulacyjne i inne indywidualne rozwiązania. W artykule przeanalizowano nowe podejścia regulacyjne, ustrukturyzowany eksperymentalizm (np. piaskownice regulacyjne) oraz perspektywę nowych ram regulacyjnych.
