This article provides a review of current advances in astronautics with particular focus on medical and psychological barriers preventing long space travels. Our intellectual and emotional connection with the Universe has been recorded since the dawn of time, as evidenced by the advances in cosmology and astronomy on the one hand and in religious iconography and fantasy/science-fiction literature on the other. The collected pool of scientific data and current beliefs regarding the Universe provide the background for the development of tools designed to verify current hypotheses (e.g. telescopes, satellites, space probes). However, this happened only in the 20th century when humans ventured to “touch” the Universe using senses other than vision. This step-by-step process was greatly advanced by the development of extraterrestrial transportation, including space ships (both orbital and interplanetary) and space stations. This activity, referred to in the literature as astronautics, became the source of new hopes for the exploration of space as well as of new myths regarding the future “conquest” thereof.

Na postrzeganie kosmosu w czasach zimnej wojny wpływała rywalizacja militarna światowych mocarstw (Układ o zasadach działalności państw w zakresie badań i użytkowania przestrzeni kosmicznej łącznie z Księżycem i innymi ciałami niebieskimi z 1967 roku zakłada wykorzystywanie ciał niebieskich wyłącznie do celów pokojowych). Polska Agencja Kosmiczna.

Security means to meet such needs as: the existence, survival, wholeness, identity, independence, peace, possession and confidence in development. In the twentieth century, mankind to satisfy its needs, went into the outer space. Currently, Earth orbit is full of satellites (communications, navigation, surveillance, meteorological, spy) which affect our daily lives, but also space garbage, which are a challenge for further expansion. Military competition during the Cold War led to the recognition that the space will be used only for peaceful purposes (Treaty on Principles Governing the Activities of States in the Exploration and Use of Outer Space, including the Moon and Other Celestial Bodies, 1967). Nowadays activities in space is also a source of innovations generating technological development. This is one of the tasks of Polish Space Agency, created in 2014.
W sensie teoretycznym, taką alternatywę przedstawia Latour w idei Ziemskości (Terrestrial) (2017), oznaczającej miejsce, które w utopijnych kategoriach poprzedza przekroczenie granicy pomiędzy rzeczywistym i wyobrażonym, politycznym i kulturowym.

USSR-2061 is a Russian futuristic online project that imagines a new USSR a century after Gagarin’s journey into space. This article connects the project to Soviet space utopianism and the nostalgia that followed it, while seeing USSR-2061 and its artefacts in the light of utopian studies. In particular, the project’s hesitation with regard to utopianism and its thirst for realism are situated within a classical utopian problem of how to achieve real, not only imaginary, transformations. Such realism generally coincides with Levitas’ (2013) framework of utopia as a method, and, as the analysis shows, it hinders the construction of “an image of a future” at which the project aims. Instead, the resulting narratives and visions commonly overlap with the official Russian political discourse that makes use of Soviet nostalgia, or fall into retrofuturistic replications of commonly satirized Soviet discourses. However, a different way of constructing utopia is also present in USSR-2061, even if it is never highlighted. To make utopia possible in anti-utopian times, one might need to rethink its place of possibility or topos. Theoretically, such an alternative is presented in connection to Latour’s (2017) Terrestrial, a place with agency that in utopian terms presupposes a transgression of the boundary between the real and imaginary, the political and cultural. In the same line, the paper argues that USSR-2061 might attempt the construction of a new utopia through rethinking space. This might be fostered through the inclusion of cosmist ideas such as those of Vladimir Vernadsky and Alexander Chizhevsky, whose intersections with Latourian framework have previously been observed.
Since Thomas Kuhn’s revolutionary look at the social construction of science, research into the rhetorics of science has shown how science is a persuasive form of discourse, rarely as transparent and self-evident as is often understood. Rhetorical studies have taken this cue to examine how science is constructed through available means beyond mere logic. Arguably, the resurgence of creationist beliefs in political discourse has brought on a new impetus in science to persuade the “hearts and minds” of the American population, inspiring Neil deGrasse Tyson’s remaking of Carl Sagan’s 1980 documentary "Cosmos". Using Rudolph Otto’s, "The Idea of the Holy", this article will define religion as an ineffable experience that creates “creature-consciousness,” or a sense of awe and insufficiency towards something outside the self, while also producing a sense of identification or “oneness.” The ineffable experience is core to the public making of science, just as the ineffable experience plays a defining role in religions. Though science and religion are often seen as mutually exclusively (sometimes in opposition), identifying the ineffable experience as a shared ground can provide opportunities for science and religion to dialogue in new ways.

Odrodzenie kreacjonistycznych przekonań w dyskursie politycznym dało nowy impuls w nauce, aby przekonać „serca i umysły” Amerykanów i zainspirowało Neila deGrasse Tysona do przygotowania nowej odsłony fi lmu dokumentalnego pt. "Cosmos" autorstwa Marka Carlosa Sagana z 1980 roku.
The paper presents a comparative analysis of two contemporary space strategies published by the United Kingdom and France. In respect to the first one, the vision and strategic objectives have been defined. This is followed by a description of the achievement of defined objectives through four pillars. Four phases of strategy implementation were outlined, with a time horizon after 2030. With reference to the French strategic counterpart, the importance of space in modern military activities was defined, as well as the legal framework for military and non-military activities in space was in- dicated. The next part is devoted to the development directions and future acquisition of space capabilities. An increase in strategic autonomy, the factors of which include law, technical aspects and international cooperation, was considered important. A roadmap was described, defining French ambitions in the development of this operational area. The final section addresses structural issues related to the acquisition of space capabilities. A comparison was made between the most important structural elements of two strategies: visions and strategic objectives, ways to achieve the stra- tegic objectives, aspects of international space law, stages to achieve the ta- sks defined in the strategies, analysis and identification of threats, and ambitions to achieve space superpower status. The differences and common parts of the addressed structural elements of documents were indicated.

Dokonano porównania najważniejszych elementów strukturalnych obydwóch strategii: wizje i cele strategiczne, sposoby osiągania celów strategicznych, aspekty międzynarodowego prawa kosmicznego, etapy realizacji zadań określonych w strategiach, analizę i identyfikację zagrożeń oraz ambicje dotyczące osiągnięcia statutu supermocarstwa kosmicznego. Wskazano różnice oraz części wspólne poruszanych elementów strukturalnych dokumentów.

The author makes an attempts to analyze the events related to the conflict in Ukraine, which are related to the activity in outer space. He takes into account the three most common publicizing aspects of this conflict in the form of satellite observation, satellite navigation (GNSS) connected with the radio-electronic warfare, as well as the Russian response to international sanctions, in the form of breaking cooperation in outer space. In case of all three aspects has been made the analysis their political and strategic significance. The author, however, reserve that a more complete, in-depth analysis will be possible only after the end of the ongoing conflict.

The article presents views of the ancient Balts on the structure and origin of the world, reconstructed on the basis of archeological excavation sites, folklore, mythology and linguistic data. Four to five thousand years ago, the ancestors of today’s Lithuanians and Latvians had already developed views, based on religious and mythological beliefs, on the relationship between humans and nature, as well as the origin and structure of the world. Their interest in the universe then developed into astronomical observations, a search for regularities in celestial phenomena and the development of a calendar.
Zgodnie z myślą neoplatońską zorza poprzez swoje piękno odsyła do Piękna najwyższego, przerastającego ludzkie poznanie.

This article discusses the significance of the aurora motif in Jan Kochanowski’s “Fraszki” (“Trifles”): “Do snu” (“To Sleep,” II 37), “Modlitwa o deszcz” (“Prayer for Rain,” III 72), “Na matematyka” (“To the Mathematician,” I 53), “Do Jędrzeja” (“To Jędrzej,” II 53), and “Do Stanisława” (“To Stanisław”) (I 63), against the background of other references to this phenomenon in the poet’s works and in relation to ancient and Renaissance natural science concepts and literary conventions. The motif couples the two most important manifestations of beauty of the cosmos in the author’s oeuvre: mathematical measure and luminosity. The aurora orders space, as it determines the directions of the world, and time, since it regulates the order of the day. It is also a luminous phenomenon, the beauty of which cannot be explained in rational terms. It adorns the macrocosm—the sky—and the microcosm—the human being (especially fair maidens)—and, as a stylistic ornament, the literary work microcosm. In accordance with Neoplatonic thought, through its beauty it refers to the supreme Beauty, surpassing human cognition.
The Author tries to “think out of the box”, presenting “Sponsalia ex hoc mundo” (“Hand fastening out of this world”). The title reflects the view that the outer space sciences and the sea sciences are analytically separable, but practically interlinked. It might be observed in the context of space technology and satellite technics, a new system of management and government, as well as a new system of law and policy. Nowadays, the outer space infrastructure (the use of artificial Earth satellites for Direct Television Broadcasting, communications, remote sensing, navigation, military missiles) affects infrastructure of our Planet, including maritime infrastructure. There is, therefore, the need for a new face of integrated system of science and practice.
PL

The concept of the cosmos, shaped in ancient Greek philosophy, has a different meaning today. This change of meaning reflects rejection of the idea of the cosmos as order established by the gods. The author of the article, as a cultural anthropologist and amateur astronomer, describes this problem by analyzing selected examples of the concepts of the cosmos and of celestial bodies, such as Venus and Sirius. These concepts are examples of alternative knowledge that was an important component of cultural systems. Also touched upon in the article are issues of epistemology and philosophy of science.
One of the manifestations of the contemporary cultural and civilizational crisis is the ecological crisis caused by the overexploitation and devastation of the natural living environment. The root cause of this phenomenon is seen in false thinking and a narrowed cognitive perspective directed exclusively towards utilitarian processing of the world and the reduction of man as a means in the pursuit of economic gain. Already at the beginning of the 20th century, existentialists such as Martin Heidegger and Gabriel Marcel, as well as contemporary Joseph Ratzinger, warned of these dangers, postulating a return to such ideas as integral knowledge of man, God and the world directed towards wisdom, contemplation, fraternity, humility and asceticism in the sense of modesty of intention. These are not some new ideas invented for the moment; they are all to be found in the ancient heritage of European culture, especially in the forgotten, despised Middle Ages, whose wisdom and rich deposits of meaning still remain undiscovered. The works of the medieval masters containing unsurpassed syntheses of knowledge about the whole of reality, the beauty of the natural world, human dignity, the meaning of life and its ultimate goals can inspire, teach and nourish today's lost, spiritually starved man.

This article contains an analysis of the concept of harmony in Empedocles' philosophical framework. The term itself appears several times in his poem On nature in different meanings. The concept of harmony is portrayed in this article in relation to active principles of Love and Repulsion and four passive principles. Moreover, harmony is discussed from the perspective of balance between the individual passive elements and from the perspective of the ontical condition for the unity of archai.
Typically, mysticism is separated from dogma. Dogma gives theoretical knowledge, while mysticism gives experience of the reality about which the dogma speaks. Roman Rogowski tries to connect these two separate ways of talking about reality. On the basis of the event from above on Mount Tabor Rogowski lays the foundations for mystical Christology. For the three Apostles: Peter, James andJohn, Mount Tabor was an experience of Christological dogma: “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God” (Mt 16:16). This experience gave the Apostles an experimental knowledge of Christ. Rogowski’s mystical Christology concretizes the thesis of the Orthodox theologian Vladimir Nikolaievich Lossky: there is no Christology without mysticism, and mysticism is the pinnacle of Christology. From the formal side, Rogowski’s mystical Christology does not take the form of a theological treatise in the strict sense. It is close to narrative theology, which is a collection of stories about topics related to faith. Rogowski not only laid the foundations for mystical Christology based on the historical saving significance of mountains, but also showed the importance of mountains for man as a homo viator. For Rogowski, a man who is the image of God wanders around the mountains that God sustains in existence. The mountains are the frame or screen of God revealing himself, because in the act of creation by the One who is Mystery, they received something of His mystery. This mystery of the mountains suggests to the mind the existence of God, and the fear and fascination caused by the mountains make one feel God. This mountain mysticism, however, is only a foreground of the mysticism that the three Apostles: Peter, James and John, experienced on Mount Tabor.

To doświadczenie dało apostołom jakby eksperymentalne poznanie Chrystusa. Ta tajemnica gór podpowiada rozumowiistnienie Boga, a trwoga i fascynacja wywoływane górami dają odczuć Boga.
In his enormous literary-production Karl Rahner (1904–1984) did not omit the question of intelligent extraterrestrial beings. Despite the fact that his statements about this issue are sporadic, fragmented and scattered, they nevertheless give a fairly clear and original philosophical and theological picture of this problem. Rahner presents the question of hypothetical extraterrestrial intelligence in a metaphysical perspective in which the cosmos is constantly coming into being as a self-transcending reality. According to Rahner the cosmos with its physical laws and in accordance with the purposeful plan of its Creator is oriented not only towards humans (anthropocentrism), but also towards other embodied spiritual beings (subjectivity-centrism). In this perspective there is a real possibility that other intelligent beings besides us exist. From the theological point of view, according to Rahner these hypothetical beings, just like humans, are exposed to the self-communicating God-Trinity through the Logos-Christ-Redeemer (christocentrism).
