Działania marketingowe zaczynają wkraczać w kolejne obszary życia. Koncepcja marketingu miejsc/terytorialnego zakłada budowanie przewagi konkurencyjnej miasta poprzez promocję wizerunku, kultury i historii, wzmacnianie potencjału inwestycyjnego i turystycznego. Małe miasta, chcąc zaistnieć i konkurować z innymi, często łączą siły i skupiają się w organizacjach, sieciach promujących miejsca o podobnych walorach, unikalnych cechach. Wspólne działania marketingowe pozwalają skumulować siły i rozłożyć koszty.

Marketing activities start to enter new areas of life. The concept of place/territorial marketing assumes building town’s competitive advantage through promotion of the image, culture, and history, strengthening the investment and tourist potential. Important is improvement of the quality of life of citizens, meeting their needs, and raising the level of accessible public services, products, infrastructure, etc. To achieve this objective there is necessary cooperation of representatives of business, inhabitants and local authorities. Big towns and cities may apply their own, extended marketing tools – they have means and abilities to do so. Small towns, wishing to become known and to compete with others, often combine their strengths and aggregate in organisations, networks promoting the places with similar values, unique features. Joint marketing activities allow cumulating strengths and sharing costs. Study aim: to present the concept of cities of the future – garden cities. The Warsaw Suburbs Garden Tricity(WSGT) is an example of cooperation of the cities which agreed to build their competitive advantage. Owing to the joint place branding, they have an opportunity to raise the quality of life of dwellers, to promote their uniqueness and sustainable development of the entire area. Research material and methods: the research material is a compilation of the source documents, surveys findings, and interviews as well as the accessible literature and information obtained from representatives of the local authorities and selected organisations. In her study, the author applied a review of the national and foreign literature on the issues of territorial marketing and cooperation of towns, an analysis of the source documents (inter alia, organisations statutes, urban development strategies, etc.) as well as the methods of field research: own observations, interviews and survey. Findings: the analysed documents and research findings confirm the growth of WSGT image recognisability, implementation of joint actions in the area of three municipalities, and an increase of activity and integration of inhabitants, what is an important contribution to building the social capital of the area in question.

This paper aims to consider a sector of cultural tourism: gastronomy tourism (also known as food tourism, culinary tourism) in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic crisis. This is a conceptual paper, based mainly on the critical review of academic literature and UN WTO, UN WHO and UNESCO documents. By synthesising available data and research results, this paper provides an assessment of the present situation of gastronomy tourism, and tries to formulate some trends possible to be developed in the future, once the pandemic is over (as a potential role of culinary tourism in the revival of the whole sector). The research questions focused on the meaning and tradition of gastronomy tourism, conse- quences of the COVID-19 crisis and post-pandemic regeneration of the sector. The paper concludes that trends seen in gastronomy tourism sector before lockdown are no longer applicable during the COVID-19 pandemic crisis. The new technologies helped to overcome some of the challenges which this industry currently faces. Several potential trends might be developed after the pandemic crisis, serving as local food and local culinary tradition promotion. Suggestions are provided for further research as discussion about more resilient, sustainable and inclusive gastronomy tourism in the future as well as recovery practices within the domestic hospitality are important.
This paper presents some aspects of COVID-19 impact on cultural tourism and on the museum sector. Museums are closely linked to cultural and heritage tourism, considered a significant attraction. The tourism sector is among the most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and cultural tourism is not an exception. In 2020 around 95% museums around the world were closed – according to government sanitary regulations. The aim of the research was to identify the impact of COVID-19 disease on cultural tourism (measured by a number of visitors in the most popular museums in 2019 and 2020) and museums’ adaptation to the sanitary restrictions during the pandemic time. For a few decades museums have tried to enhance their digital activities such as online educational programmes, online collection display, online exhibitions, live events, learning programs, brochures, podcasts, social media and virtual tours. These activities and various projects became especially important during the lockdown caused by the pandemic outbreak, as many museums continued their missions during the pandemic. Some museums have reopened (with strict limitations defined by sanitary restrictions), but many institutions remain closed. It shows how crucial IT innovations are. The paper concludes with some reflections on museums’ offer during the pandemic time and cultural tourism prospects in the post-pandemic time.

In Europe, for more than three millennia, the development of individual disciplines has been accompanied by the evolution of sports facilities. It covers the period from the Ancient Olympic Games to modern sports architecture. The sports architecture heritage, as a magnet for cultural tourism, is evident. Millions of tourists visiting the famous sites are the proof how important these places are for our identity and tradition of European civilization. The most important historic sports facilities are inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List: ancient Greek and Roman amphitheatres, thermal baths, antique arenas. The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has hit the tourism sector hard. It is essential to reformulate present rules of the historic sports facilities visits and to consider the future directions of cultural tourism re-development at the UNESCO Heritage Sites. Recently there has been a revival of interests in sports heritage and many tourists want to explore famous landmarks of the past. Despite the pandemic time restrictions, it is also possible at present. However, new actions and policies are required to meet sanitary requirements and recommendations, and rebuild consumer confidence.

This paper is aimed to describe the association between tourism and transport, seen in the perspective of the COVID-19 pandemic. The dual role of transport and tourism in the pandemic crisis is very special: it spreads the virus around the world and at the same time is mostly impacted by the pandemic negative consequences. The research was based mainly on the critical review and analysis of the secondary data (SDA method), such available resources as literature, statistic data and reports, actions taken by governments, international institutions and law regulations (published in 2020-2021). This approach allowed deep insight and overview of the most important issues of transport that have influenced tourism in the pandemic crisis. The final result of the study showed that for destinations highly dependent upon tourism-related revenue, the lockdown and transport suspension became a great concern and resulted in economy crisis. We acknowledge that due to the objective limitations, this paper cannot provide a comprehensive insight in tour- ism, transport and crisis issues. However, as this topic is a rarely discussed theme in academic texts, we hope that this paper could be found useful as it explores approaches to tourism from this new perspective. The paper ends with some reflections on sustainable development of the transport sector in the post-pandemic time, when tourism is expected to recover.
W 2020 roku wybuch pandemii COVID-19 i ograniczenia w podróżowaniu spowodowały problemy w branży turystycznej i hotelarskiej. Wnioski końcowe zostały przedstawione w kilku wątkach problemowych: kryzys branży hotelarskiej, ochrona personelu i gości, ograniczenia wynikające z reżimu sanitarnego i możliwe rekomendacje zarządzania hotelem.

The tourism industry is especially sensitive to a pandemic and other unexpected circumstances as natural disasters, war, terrorist attacks. Different types of crisis bring various consequences. In 2020 the outbreak of the COVID-19 disease and travel restrictions caused bruises to the tourism and hospitality industries. Hotel managers, hotel staff and their guests had to take a series of measures to deal with various challenges and face a new situation. This paper aims to critically examine the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the tourism and hotel industries and discuss some possible survival strategies to be implemented in the hotel sector during the pandemic crisis (in the short and long-term perspective). The research was based on an overview of the relevant literature and sanitary rules developed by UN WHO, local governments and the hotel industry. The authors critically investigated some available statistic data to compare room occupancy before the pandemic and during the COVID-19 crisis and hospitality services offered to hotel guests before the pandemic and after its outbreak. The main findings are presented from several dimensions: hotel and health crisis, sanitary restrictions and possible recovery recommendations.
In recent years, the popularity of outdoor gyms has been growing. They are built in urban parks, in neighbourhoods (housing estates), at school sports grounds. Recently more and more outdoor gyms are increasingly being built also in non-urban recreation areas (such as coastal beaches, lake promenades, forest parks). The aim of this research was to analyse how outdoor gyms in Warsaw and the selected surrounding localities are used.

Knowing the extent of the detailed conditions for sustainable development of culture – religion tourism seems to be an important issue, because interest in religious tourism, pilgrimages, cultural and religious tourism in Poland seemed to be unabated. Among millions of tourists annually visiting the most popular sanctuaries, many are people with different kind of disabilities, elders and families with toddlers. However the issue was not yet a material for broader and deeper scientific studies in Poland. Weight of the precise of discernment seemed to be particularly important in the context of pilgrims expected in Poland in 2016, on the occasion of World Youth Day, as well as in subsequent years, what will be the likely consequence of this year’s celebrations. One of the most important outcomes of the study is the ‘Inclusive Religious Sanctuaries Chart’ (IRSCH), helpful with identification of the material and non-material barriers. In this text the authors present the findings of research carried out under ds-144 and ds.-245 AWF Warsaw projects (Ministry of Science and Higher Education grants for the years 2014-2018).
The history of the Joseph Pilsudski University of Physical Education in Warsaw has had its beginnings only ten years after the end of the First World War. Historically, it was a time of the establishing the Second Polish Republic, as a result of the Versailles Treaty (1918). It was not a period conducive to such ambitious investments, but after regaining independence, there was determination to resurrect in a free country – at all costs – the cultural life, education and sport, in aim to bring up the young generation in accordance with the latest European principles. The year 2019 was a special year, due to the 90th anniversary of the establishment of the Józef Piłsudski University of Physical Education in Warsaw. In the years 1929–2019, the walls of the university left more than 50,000 graduates, numerous doctors and habilitated doctors were promoted, and serious research and development potential was built. Currently, at the five faculties, study about 4,557 students. All graduates are highly qualified to meet the needs of the 21st century society: they are employed as teachers, trainers, instructors, physiotherapists, nurses, cosmetologists and occupational therapy specialists - they are highly appreciated in Poland and other countries in Europe. On the occasion of the Jubilee, numerous scientific conferences, symposia, publications, exhibitions, sporting and cultural events were organized, for highlighting the tradition and summarizing the achievements of the Joseph Pilsudski University of Physical Education.

W latach 1929–2019 mury warszawskiej Akademii Wychowania Fizycznego Józefa Piłsudskiego opuściło ponad 50 000 absolwentów, wypromowano licznych doktorów i doktorów habilitowanych, zbudowano poważny potencjał naukowo-badawczy. Z okazji jubileuszu organizowane są konferencje naukowe, sympozja, wystawy, imprezy sportowe i kulturalne, wydawane publikacje – podkreślające chlubną tradycję i podsumowujące znaczący dorobek uczelni.
Wyniki badań: Aby zapewnić dostępność placów zabaw dla wszystkich grup wiekowych, należy przestrzegać podstawowych zasad: dostępności fizycznej, wieku i adekwatności rozwojowej, elementów stymulujących fizycznie, społecznie i sensorycznie. Wnioski: Wykazano, że dogodna lokalizacja, atrakcyjne, stymulujące rozwój psychofizyczny wyposażenie osiedlowych terenów rekreacji są ważne, aby zachęcać do codziennej aktywności fizycznej w każdym wieku, pomóc wzmacniać i doskonalić umiejętności społeczne, umysłowe i fizyczne trzech pokoleń.

Research aim: Playgrounds were historically designed only for children, today we can observe new concept of recreation sites, aimed for all ages. Traditional playground was furniture with kids’ equipment, while universal playgrounds have also facilities for adults. These facilities enable families to play together. Research methods: Research project ds-300 AWF was a continuation of the ds-114 AWF – the MNiSW grant. Using the field survey with participant observations, structured and semi-structured interviews methods, factors determining the ‘inclusive urban playground’ for three generations were identified. Research results: To achieve the open access to the universally designed, inclusive playgrounds for all ages, basic components should be included: physical accessibility, age and developmental appropriateness, physical, social and sensory-stimulating components. Conclusions: Results show that exciting, engaging and challenging sport and recreation housing green areas are important to encourage physical activities for all age and enhance social, mental and physical skills of the three generations.
Getting to know the social and spatial conditions of the sustainable development of cultural and religious tourism seems to be an important and timeless problem, because the interest in this form of travel in Poland is not waning. Among tourists – pilgrims there are many people with different disabilities, the elderly and families with young children. However important, the issue of the accessibility of sanctuaries for these groups of tourists has not been the material of a broader and in-depth scientific study in Poland so far, which encourages us to consider these issues in our scientific research. A detailed analysis of the problem, focused on the possibility of removing technical, architectural and spatial barriers in the sanctuaries and in the surroundings of holy sites, seemed to the authors of particular importance in the context of the expected pilgrimage movement in Poland in 2016, in which year the international World Youth Day was organized. One of the assumed and achieved application effects of the research study was the development of the ‘Accessible Sanctuary Card’ (ASC), helpful for the practical assessment of the accessibility of places of religious worship for people with various types of disabilities. The presented paper contains the research final conclusions of the project No. 245 AWF Warsaw (grant from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education undertaken in 2014–2018).
