The pope Benedict XVI in Apostolic Exhortation Verbum Domini (2010) has presented fruits of the work of the XII Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops which had as its theme: „The Word of God in the Life and Mission of the Church”. Nowadays, there is no greater priority for the mission of the Church than this: to enable the people of our time once more to encounter God, the God who speaks to us and shares his love so that we might have life in abundance (cf. Jn 10:10). The economy of Revelation has its Trinitarian dimension, so, God, who speaks to people, makes it always as the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Triune God goes toward people with the word of salvation, which is present in the work of creation and redemption, in the living Tradition and the sacred Scriptures. Since God “so loved the world that he gave his only Son” (Jn 3:16), the divine word, spoken in time, is bestowed and “consigned” to the Church in a definitive way, so that the proclamation of salvation can be communicated effectively in every time and place.

The issue of his article is the reflection of the Divine Revelation that had been started from the beginning of Patristic. The earliest Christians documents and the first Fathers of the Church both expressed the Revelation by words like: mystery, salvation, pedagogics. The Revelation comes from the Divine economy and ex- presses in history, what happens step by step. The Fathers of the Church started to expose the unity of the Divine economy. It showed the unity of the Divine Revelation and his constantly progress. The Fathers of the Church started to point to the arguments of credibility of Christianity like the argument from prophetic, but not only. Some of the factors had influenced to the meaning of Revelation. There were for example: Jewish and heretics.
The subject of the foregoing article is a problem of an adequate criterion for the research religions in their multiplicity and diversity. The analysis of the standpoint of the relative pluralism indicates insufficiency and even faultiness of this kind of attitude towards religions and mutual relations between them. Theology of religion that is based on the premises of trinity and ecclesiology and that accept the revelation as the explanation the origin of religion, recognizes this criterion in the revelation. Religion is comprehended as vital relation to God which is the consequence of recognizing and accepting the revelation which is included in creation and takes part in history. Revelation as a criterion and grounds for defining of relations between religions makes the research into genuinity of religions possible and enables, their adequate comparison and explanation of their savoir possibility. This criterion respects the methodological postulate of theological character and universality which is the result of the concept of religion and its origins in generality. The recognition of multiplicity of circumstance which accompany the forming of a concrete religion seems to sufficiently explain the different degrees of existence of revelation in religions and its mix with natural elements, complexity and development of doctrine and similarity and differences between them.

Współczesna teologia fundamentalna dostrzega w cudzie znak Bożego wezwania do wiary. Dlatego cuda Jezusa stanowiąc część Objawienia, objaśniają je i objawiają apel Boży wyrażony w taumaturgii Jezusa.

This paper aimed at discussing the relation of the miracles of Jesus to faith. A thesis has been proposed: can a miracle lead to faith or is faith prior to a miracle? In the first section, a question of the need for existence of prior faith, which is the basis of understanding the miracles of Jesus, has been discussed. In order to understand the thaumaturgic activity, which is subjected to Him, one must have at least initial understanding of the salvific dimension of a miracle. Next, an issue of miracle, which is a call for faith, has been raised. In a miracle / sign, God manifests His presence; He reveals for the purposes of saving the man. Hence, a miracle is an offer addressed towards the man. The God’s offer reveals discretely, hence the man must be “sensitive” to His signs to properly receive and read them. In the miracles of Jesus, a dimension of grace is also revealed. The grace plays a preparatory roles to the decision of faith. The God’s grace enlightens the mind to properly recognise the content of a miracle. At the end of these considerations, problems of the relation of a miracle to the Revelation have been discussed. In older apologetics, the miracles of Jesus were an evidential argument for the certainty of the Revelation. Modern fundamental theology sees in a miracle a sign of the God’s call for faith. Therefore, the miracles of Jesus, being part of the Revelation, explain it and reveal the God’s call expressed in the thaumaturgy of Jesus. In this type of approach to the miracles of Jesus, their motivational function is not wiped out; quite the opposite, the motivational function of a miracle is being strengthened and enriched, although an effort is required from the addressee of a miracle (man) to read this sign of God.
The present article deals with the essential message of the Fourth Gospel which is based on the relation between Father and Son. The main motive of this article is the last verse of the Prologue (Jn 1:18) which appears like leitmotive in the various contexts of the Gospel of John. In the first part of the article the author describes the relation between Father and Son in the Fourth Gospel. He stresses especially a deep communion between them which determines the function of Son as the Revealer of His Father. In the second part of the article the author makes analysis on the function of Jesus as the Revealer of Father. This function can be seen especially in His words and acts. The main goal of this function is the faith of the Jesus’ disciples in God who is the loving Father and Donor of salvation. In the power of faith every human being can recognize in Jesus the face of Father whose main feature is Love until the mystery of the Cross.

In the paper, the attention is paid to the greeting directed to the readers of the Revelation in the passage 1:4-7. Its structure suggests that its source is not John who wrote the Book, but the Gog who presents Himself as a unity of three persons: Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. The greeting focused most on Jesus Christ, his exceptional love towards humans and his mssion. Along with his appearance on the Earth, the process of bringing people back to God started. Monotrinitarian greeting introduces the reader to the reality of the eschatological future which would have been horrible if not the fact of limitless love and care expressed in the greeting.

W artykule zwrócono uwagę na pozdrowienie skierowane do czytelników Apokalipsy św. Jana w wersetach 1,4-7.
The unification of the books of the Bible and the definition of the standard Constantine edition of the Holy Scripture set about 425 was historically coincident with the imperial policy of the introducing of religious homogeneity in the Roman Empire at the beginning of the fourth century. Moreover, due to the cultural continuity within the Roman Empire until the 5th century, it was possible the translation of “word for word”. The German-Iranian raids in the 5th century resulted in the disintegration of the ancient cultural community, and caused the necessity of the translations of “meaning in meaning”. The highest form of God’s revelation for the patristic authors was the incarnation of God. The Bible, as the revealed word of God, was understood as a privileged, free God’s phenomenon, through which God reveals the truth about himself and communicates with man. Consequently the Church Fathers interpreted the divine inspiration as the gift of God which was given to a biblical author. In this way an inspired writer was able to convey the divine revelation drown from the Holy Scriptures to a community of the faithful, which received as the word of God himself. In the opinion of the Church Fathers, the Christian theology was based on the contemplation of the Bible, which constituted the norm of the Christian faith. To the Patristic writers Jesus was a hermeneutic key to the Holy Scripture and it was him who leads the faithful to the cognition of the divine mystery and the human dignity. In their exegesis and theology the Christian Fathers showed us that the Person of Jesus, who ultimately revealed the Father to us should not be distinguished from testimony of the Christian kerygma and the Holy Scriptures. This affirmative attitude towards the Bible contributed to the formation of the biblical canon in the 7th century and also shaped the Trinitarian, spiritual and liturgical tradition of the Church. The Biblical interpretation of the church Fathers can be regarded as a more complete meaning of the NT, which expresses the sense intended by God, the first author of the Scripture in the dogmatic tradition of the Church, and which sense was not fully known to the human author of the Scriptures (e.g. the concept of the Holy Trinity, the intra-trinitarian relations and the doctrine of the original sin). Thus understood the reading of Scripture was for the patristic writers both the source of their faith and their theology.

Jezus Chrystus pozostawał dla Ojców i pisarzy Kościoła patrystycznego kluczem hermeneutycznym do Pisma świętego i podstawą poznawania tajemnicy Boga i godności człowieka.
The biblical revelation, as well as all Christianity, has strictly historical character. Therefore, theology should remain historical as well. Apart from the fact that it teaches some timeless truths, theology, on the first place, proclaims the message about God reveling himself in the history. This message itself is historical and it is communicated from generation to generation in dynamic process called Tradition. Therefore, Tradition is not an external norm but it is rather a fundamental rule for every theologian – the rule without which we cannot speak of catholic theology at all. This role of Tradition should be emphasized especially nowadays when we experience a “cult of contemporaneity” and when we see a trend in the Church to treat unofficial sayings of Pope and other members of the hierarchy as normative and supposedly standing above Tradition.

With the end of neoscholastic theology, there was a necessity of new definition of relation between dogmatics, which is now understood from the perspective of history of salvation, and exegesis which, among other methods, uses a historicocritical method. Fundamentals of that new understanding have been given by the constitution Dei Verbum of Vaticanum II. Reffering to this document, the article presents the thesis that the interpretation of the Holy Scripture by the Church through the ages, that is in the living Tradition, and historicocritical interpretation are two different approaches which, nevertheless, should not be contradicted. What is more, we can read the Bible and understand it not just as a historical text but as the Word of God for today, only when we take into account the mutual influence of these two approaches.

W artykule zostaje podjęta problematyka z zakresu relacji filozofii i teologii.

The article addresses the issue of the relationship between philosophy and theology. The main point, being also the underlying idea of the whole argument, is a belief that philosophical knowledge enables us to appreciate the meaningfulness of almost every important doctrinal statement or every significant theologian. The following article attempts to prove the necessity and significance of philosophy for the better and deeper understanding of theology by pointing out philosophical ‘foundations’, e.i. ontological and epistemological bases of theological thinking and thinking in general. To demonstrate this importance, the article refers to one of the basic biblical and theological theses, namely “the world was created”, and, in view of it, presents through analysis some aspects of philosophical thinking in the context of theology.

The hypostatic union in Christ consists in that, in Christological statements, we may attribute the qualities of both natures to the unique person of the Incarnated Word, having in mind their distinctiveness, which corresponds with the Chalcedonian Definition: “unconfusedly, unchangeably”. However, the character of this union assumes also that, given the other determiners: “indivisibly” and “inseparably”, both natures adhere one to the other so closely, that through one nature the other is expressed (the divinity is revealed in humanity), which constitutes the condition of the epiphanial character of the incarnation. In the light of these assumptions the present article attempts to interpret the Jesus’ agony in Gethsemane not by attributing the features of the human nature (suffering) to the divine one, but by extracting from this occurrence all its epiphanial potential. In other words, the point is to read what the Jesus’ suffering in Gethsemane may reveal of his divine nature.
The paper reflects on attempts to achieve revelation, epiphany, or enlightenment in the modern world. Sometimes the hope of reaching this state accompanies dangerous mountain trekking expeditions. However, it is believed that revelation can be achieved more quickly through drug use, practiced by artists from the nineteenth century onwards. Seeking visions in this way is part of the cultural tradition of the North and South American Indians. In the twentieth century, such artists as Pollock, Rothko, Motherwell and others alluded to these practices. The Russian tradition had a different way of achieving illumination. Avant-garde artists (such as Malevich or Kandinsky) drew inspiration from it, seeking sudden revelation combined with surprise. The paper concludes with the author’s reflections on the possibility of personal experience today that would exceed the cognitive limits through contact with certain works of art, ancient and modern.

Poszukiwanie w ten sposób wizji należy do tradycji kulturowych Indian północno- i południowoamerykańskich. W XX wieku nawiązywali do nich Pollock, Rothko, Motherwell i inni malarze. Tekst kończą refleksje autora dotyczące możliwości doznania dziś indywidualnego odczucia przekroczenia granic poznawczych poprzez kontakt z niektórymi dziełami sztuki dawnej i no-woczesnej.
Konrad Rudnicki (1926–2013) was a professor of astronomy at Jagiellonian University and a clergyman of the Old Catholic Mariavite Church (since 1959). In his writings, he carefully separated astronomy from theology, while in life, he harmoniously combined them. In his theological works, he dealt with the problems of Divine revelation (Biblical and private). He compiled a new edition of the writings of the founder of Mariavitism, Maria Franciszka Kozłowska (Cracow edition: 1995). Rudnicki distinguished between three types of revelations: sensory, inspirational and spiritual. Spiritual revelations are the most reliable. He included the revelations of Maria Franciszka Kozłowska in this category. According to Rudnicki, each act of revelation occurred in a specific time, place and circumstance. God’s revelation is realized in universal and particular history. Rudnicki’s concept of revelation can be categorized as part of the history of salvation trend in theology.

Rudnicki odróżniał trzy typy objawień: zmysłowe, inspiracyjne i umysłowe. Objawienia umysłowe są najbardziej wiarygodne. Do tej kategorii zaliczał objawienia Marii Franciszki Kozłowskiej. Zdaniem Rudnickiego każdy akt objawienia miał miejsce w konkretnym czasie, miejscu i okolicznościach. Objawienie Boże realizuje się w historii powszechnej i partykularnej. Koncepcję objawienia Rudnickiego można zaliczyć do nurtu historiozbawczego.
Contemporary atheism, which has its roots in the Enlightenment as well as in the 18th and 19th-century critique of religion, differs from the historically more distant forms of negating God's existence or His effectiveness in the world. These approaches assume that the human intellect has freed itself from the Dark Ages of metaphysics and theology of revelation to find its natural state in immanentism and secularism. In this way, the non-existence of God becomes unquestionable, because He is nothing more than an imaginary being, whose existence cannot be proved empirically or granted an a priori status. At the same time, some prominent thinkers challenge the conceptual viability of positivism. Their arguments pertain to the intellectual and existential questions that are inseparable from the spiritual nature of the human being. They also point to the argumentative conviction that the human being displays a predilection to investigate the transcendent origin and purpose of the world. Reference to God allows a reappraisal of the historical evidence of the historical act of God's revealing Himself through Jesus Christ. Faith in God, who is present in the world, gives hope even in the face of death, as Dietrich Bonhoeffer confessed shortly before his execution by the godless Nazis.

The article examines some basic tenets of the so-called Straussian school in the context of the profound intellectual legacy of its founder. Leo Strauss had fled from Nazi Germany in the 1930. and after being naturalized in the US he emerged as an outstanding teacher in political science, especially at the University of Chicago. While he was mainly concerned with the most complicated issue of the relation between philosophy and Law, i.e. the life entirely devoted to the search for wisdom on the one hand and the political life thoroughly based on the religious authority on the other hand, and thus hardly understood by his fellow scholars, he gained an almost unlimited admiration from his students. The emergence of the Straussian school appears to be a result of a deliberate action of Strauss who wanted to establish a way of access to the core of his thinking. Having taken into consideration how seriously is the Straussian school differentiated, we should reflect upon a degree to which the pupils of Strauss have managed to live up to the intellectual challenge posed by their master.
The subject of exegetical analyses is the hymn Phil. 2:6-11, the pre-Paul text, included in the Letter to the Philippians as an encouragement to maintain unity in the Christian community by adopting Christ’s attitudes which manifested themselves in His incarnation and torment. The author refers in his analyses to Biblical texts that seem to help to understand the hymn. The subject of theological reflection in the hymn is the historical figure of Jesus Christ known from the apostolic testimony. The first part speaks of the actions of Jesus (2:6-8), the second part is the reaction of God to Jesus’ deeds (2:9-11). Christ, whose spiritual life is characterised by “a gift”, is the model of Christian life. He thought about others, He wanted the salvation of others and this is what the spiritual life of Christians is meant to be. To talk about morphe theou is to speak about the deity of Jesus in the context of getting to know Jesus in the history of salvation. The attitude of Christ to deity should be understood as part of “giving” and “selflessness” because He is an absolute gift (ouch harpagmon hegesato). Where there is endowment, there is the thought of an even greater gift, and from this comes the kenosis of Christ. The meaning of the verb “to be made nothing/to make oneself of no reputation” is given by the Gospel, i.e. the testimony of the historical life of Jesus. Making oneself nothing can not refer to the identity of a person (“I”), because it does not change. It is expressed in the incarnation, when Christ, without ceasing to be himself, took upon himself “the entire historical risk of human existence”. A special moment of being made nothing is His death on the cross, against which Christ does not defend himself in a divine way. The hymn speaks of Christ in the context of first Adam: while Adam wanted to become “like the gods”, Christ became a servant of men (see Rom 5). The successive stages of exaltation are omitted: resurrection, ascension, taking the place at the right hand of God. Exaltation is not a logical consequence, but a free act of God who gave the Son the dignity of the Lord as a man who was a servant. The hymn speaks of the adoration of all creation which is capable of this act (Rev 5:13). The dominion over all is a sign of having divine authority over the world which should show its obedience. The truth about the unity of God the Father and the Lord Jesus is expressed: the confession of the truth about Christ as Lord is directed to the glory of God the Father, as the entire saving plan (Rom 15:7-9). This is in accordance with Paul’s theology, who insists that everything takes from the Father and goes towards Him. The Hymn that Paul includes in his Letter to the Philippians expresses in a poetic form what the experience of eyewitnesses was and what was proclaimed in the Gospel. The facts of revelation were subjected to theological reflection. During his earthly life Jesus did not seek to reveal his eschatological “glory” and hid his messianic mystery. His purpose was to serve people to bring them to salvation. This work is the basis for His worship as a true human being and the Son of God.

Stosunek Chrystusa do bóstwa należy rozumieć w ramach „obdarowania”, „bezinteresowności”, bo On sam jest absolutnym darem (ouch harpagmon hegesato). Poddano teologicznej refleksji fakty objawienia.
