The social changes throughout the twentieth century had provoked uneven development of cities within the former Czechoslovakia. Each of the political regimes that alternated at the periodicity of approximately twenty years had marked, through the ideology, not only the ethnic and social profile of the city and its districts, but also their urbanistic and architectonical characteristics, symbolism and the outer appearance of the streets. As a result, important changes occurred in the spatial division of the city as well as the identity of city spaces. The author analyzes the impacts of social changes on the spatial diversity of the city and social composition of its districts from the beginning of the twentieth century, but focuses especially on the processes of transformation of the post-socialist city and its present state. Analyses the role of local memory in the politics of the self-government of the city and in the attitudes and activities of its inhabitants.

A balance between what we see and what we hear is necessary in all the spaces where people live. In a city, there are a number of sounds that are perceived by most inhabitants as disturbing. It is therefore necessary to mask these sounds, and this type of intervention in the soundscape creates acoustically alternative urban spaces. The evaluation of the applied solutions changing the soundscape should be reviewed. The previously used tranquillity indices for assessing the visual and acoustic soundscapes have their limitations. They do not take into account the perception of space at night or the sound structure regardless of the time of day. This paper starts a discussion on how the tranquillity factor should evolve so that it can be used to evaluate the progressively changing urban spaces.

The subject of the work is the spatial development of urban green areas in the Podgórze Duchackie district in Krakow. The main aim is the identification of the spatial development of green areas in the district and checking the correlation between the development and the ownership structure of land. Getting to know the residents opinion on the spatial development of green areas of the district has been another important aim of the study. The field work proved that the green areas are developed well enough, however there are still many places which can be improved. In terms of ownership the public green areas of the district belong to the Krakow Commune. In the inhabitants opinion there are to few green areas in the district and their development is not so good. The investigation of the subject seem to be important because of the significant number of inhabitants who use the green areas, among all respondents over 99% proved they spend time in green areas of the city.

Obszary te należą do różnych właścicieli. W odniesieniu do własności można zauważyć, iż obszary zieleni miejskiej ogólnodostępnej takiej jak parki i zieleńce to przede wszystkim własność Gminy Kraków.
