Introduction. Post-traumatic epilepsy develops as a complication of a serious craniocerebral trauma, frequently an open head injury, resulting in neurological impairments. Aim. The study was designed to discuss problems associated with sensory integration dysfunction observed in a seven-year old girl with epilepsy which occurred as a result of craniocerebral injury. Description of the case. The case study is based on information gained from the girl’s medical records, an interview with her guardians and a sensory function questionnaire. Additional examinations assessed the girl’s balance control, and her functional performance according to Barthel scale. The girl received a three-week sensory integration therapy which included exercise involving tactile, vestibular and proprioceptive stimulation, as well as balance exercises and self-care training. Conclusions. In this particular case, application of sensory integration therapy produced beneficial results. The findings show improvement in balance, coordination as well as self-care.

The present paper discusses the key deficits present in the development of children with Down syndrome, which determine the course of speech therapy. The reduction of intellectual capacity, the impairment of perception development, irregularities in the anatomy of speech organs and incorrect socio-emotional development, all of them constitute the limitations which result in the delays in language acquisition by children especially in their early years. Nevertheless, the retarded language acquisition does not mean that the child would not master the language at all, but rather it means that this process is much slower than the pace of life.

The subject of this article is one of the most-recent additions to the field of practice and research conducted on the borderline between social sciences—psychology, pedagogy—and medicine—sensory integration. The purpose of this article is to describe the basic elements defining sensory integration: history, definitions, and theoretical and methodological assumptions. The nature of this article is therefore introductory, referential, and metatheoretical. The need for research in this field is justified by the unclear cognitive status of sensory integration, combined with the great popularity of this sphere of therapeutic practice and knowledge.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is associated with variable communication difficulties and disorders, mostly detected in pragmatic language abilities, sensory integration, and imitation. These components are important for a comprehensive speech-language therapy (SLT) intervention. This article describes the application of a new evaluation material for assessing imitation abilities, partial pragmatic abilities based on the recognition of graphical visual diagrams, and sensory integration in two boys with ASD (diagnosed with childhood autism in accordance with International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision, WHO) with sensory integration difficulties, dyspraxia symptoms, and imitation skill disturbances. The main objective is to identify potential obstacles to SLT efficiency and the causes of disturbed pragmatic language abilities. The analysis of the case studies shows some progress in communication ability; however, some of the abilities related to sensory integration have been partially inhibited. In one case, we suggest the possible influence of the individual therapy based on the described detailed assessment.

The theory of Sensory Integration explains the chaos in a child’s behaviour by the lack of cooperation of all the senses simultaneously. At the same time, it provides an opportunity to organize the information coming from the senses through appropriately selected exercises and games. Integration of stimuli is necessary for the formation of ideas about the self and the world, assimilation of knowledge, purposeful actions, planning and elaboration of behaviour. Working with a child with sensory integration disorders requires an individual approach, understanding of the child’s specific needs and cooperation with a variety of specialists. The first step a parent takes toward improving a child’s well-being and functioning is observation. The child also relies on the knowledge and attitude of the parent. The analysis of the literature undertaken is intended to show the need to understand issues related to sensory integration disorders. The article also presents tips for parents on how to support the development of sensory integration, not only through therapy.

In late 2020 and early 2021 I diagnosed and treated pupils from a therapeutic centre. The diagnosis was carried out on children who are at the stage of early childhood education. Requiring special education due to holistic developmental disorders. The first of the described cases concerns . I evaluated the therapy in three consecutive stages after 6, 12 and 18 months from the beginning of therapy. During the therapy I used suspended equipment such as swings, platforms, hammocks as well as ground-based equipment such as a balance beam, sensory tracks, shapes, pool with balls, balls, massagers, rollers, mangle, topek, barrel, tunnel, trampoline etc. For tactile stimuli I used all kinds of fabrics, sponges, brushes, pulses, sensory balls, sensory masses etc. In order to make the therapy enjoyable for the child, I called each activity a game. Depending on the nature of the challenge, the boys became: jumping frogs, crawling soldiers, flying paratroopers, explorers, sculptors, etc. I drew inspiration for games fulfilling a therapeutic function from the items: " Everyday games and plays" for children with sensory processing disorders" by Barbara Sher, "Disorderly child in the world of games and plays" by C. Kranowitz "Train the brain through movement" by Z. Przyrowski Children through exercises not only improved the integration of sensory information or the brain's ability to modulate received stimuli but also improved their physicality, muscle strength but also improved their cognitive skills, graphomotor skills, concentration and memory.

W trakcie terapii używałam zarówno sprzętu podwieszanego typu huśtawki, platformy, hamaki jak i naziemnego typu równoważnia, tory sensoryczne, kształtki, basen z kulkami, piłki, masażery, wałki, maglownica, topek, beczka, tunel, trampolina itp. Do wywierania bodźców dotykowych używałam wszelkiego rodzaju tkanin, gąbek, szczotek, nasion strączkowych, piłek sensorycznych, mas sensorycznych itp. Inspiracje do zabaw spełniających funkcje terapeutyczne czerpał z pozycji: „Codzienne gry i zabawy” dla dzieci z zaburzeniami przetwarzania sensorycznego” Barbary Sher, „Niezgrane dziecko w świecie gier i zabaw” C. Kranowitz „Trenuj mózg poprzez ruch” Z. Przyrowskiego.

The purpose of this article is to characterize the quality of life as assessed by surveyed adults with sensory integration disorders in the dimensions of values, goals and motivation. The biographies of the subjects prove that one does not grow out of sensory integration disorders. Undiagnosed children become adults and sensory processing dysfunctions affect development not only in childhood, but also in adulthood. The main problem, the solution to which the conducted research served, took the form of the following question: how do adults with sensory integration disorders assess the quality of their lives? This question allowed the following specific questions to emerge: What values guide the respondents in their lives, which values have priority for them? What areas of life, and to what extent, satisfy the respondents? How do sensory integration disorders affect the respondents’ assessment of their quality of life? What is the role of the diagnosis of sensory disorders in assessing the quality of life of respondents diagnosed with dysfunctions in middle adulthood? The qualitative research approach made it possible to address topics that go beyond what is objective and measurable. The individual case study allowed for the phenomenon under study to be described and analysed.

Celem niniejszego artykułu jest dokonanie charakterystyki jakości życia w ocenie badanych osób dorosłych z zaburzeniami integracji sensorycznej w wymiarze wartości, celów i motywacji.

Breaking barriers, overcoming one’s own limitations, is everyone’s task. However, not everyone realizes that there are people among us, for whom – although they are basically healthy – overcoming these barriers comes with difficulty. They are called variously: slackers, or sonorously – in English – clumsy. They are not sick, only their brains (for reasons described below) work slightly differently. They stumble around for no reason, something constantly falls out of their hands, they react badly to certain sounds, tastes, smells. Sometimes this makes them scream and run away, arousing the unhealthy curiosity of the chattering public. Because of this, they have to face incomprehension, social ostracism, sometimes lack of acceptance even among loved ones. School and later professional work thus become extremely challenging for them. These are people with sensory integration disorders, and this article is an attempt to examine and present how they cope in the school environment and during their careers.

The article, based on the theory of sensory integration, addresses the issue of sensory processing disorders in relation to the educational process. At the beginning, the phenomenon of sensory processing was characterized and the disorders occurring in its area (SPD) were indicated. Next, the issue of SPD was discussed in relation to the characteristic symptoms observable in the school space, in the teaching and educational process, and, referring to the basic assumptions of constructivist didactics and inclusive education, attention was paid to the issue of a child with sensory processing disorders in pedagogical practice. The aim of the article is to draw attention to the issue of sensory processing and to indicate that problems observed in the child's education process may be the result of these disorders, thus with a child with SPD requires an individualized approach. The essence of the article is to sensitize a wide range of people to the problems manifested by children with sensory processing disorders and their consequences. The symptoms of these disorders, although they constitute a significant difficulty in the educational process, are often not treated as problems requiring a change in the teaching and educational approach. This situation may, in consequence, lead to aggravating the child's difficulties and disturb cognitive, emotional, social and motor development.

W artykule, w oparciu o teorię integracji sensorycznej podjęto problematykę zaburzeń przetwarzania sensorycznego w odniesieniu do procesu kształcenia.
