Objective: In this article we attempt to shed light on the changing attitudes American workers may have, specifically authoritarian personality characteristics, by reviewing the results obtained from our survey of 74 retired auto workers. Research Design & Methods: Part of our survey utilizes the Zakrisson short version of the Right-Wing Authoritarian scale and our interests are to provide any differences found between men and women. Also, we seek to test for the presence of authoritarianism as one aspect to understand the appeal of right-wing politics among the white working class. Findings: Our findings indicate that men and women are each no more or less likely to develop authoritarian personality characteristics. The differences by gender that we found in our case-study mirror the literature over the last several decades since empirical research began in 1950 – ambivalence. Implications/Recommendations: As a discontented citizenry searches for answers, by leaning more politically right or left will gender differences widen or converge due to the issues. Contribution/Value Added: Given the current social and economic climate in the United States we find this research study to be both timely and important. A conservative or liberal orientation by American workers may have important contributions for the direction the US takes not only on pressing economic and social issues at home but abroad as well.

The aim of this text is to depict the evolution of change in representations of labor and value in a neoliberal society. This evolution is shown through ethnographical studies of small companies in the Upper Silesia as well as the work performed in such companies. The study argues that due to the influence of neoliberał ideology, the social functioning of labor and value has evolved from the class paradigm in the industrial society to a discontinuous structure of the set in the contemporary society. Labor has also changed its measurable representative features. For example, labor is no longer perceived through the lens of worktime or effort, but rather through the lens of value. The text constitutes an analysis of the changes in the labor and value structure and how this structure is perceived in a neoliberal society.

Childbirth is a physiological state that usually stirs – for obvious reasons – many emotions The attitude of the society towards childbirth has come a long way – from a natural approach, based on confidence in maternal instinct, up to a full medical-care one that deprives the woman giving birth of any influence on the process, and finally, slowly returning to the first stage The proposed learning tools use a wide range of sources of information on childbirth- from posts on Internet forums to scientific publications. The current postulate is consistent with the purpose of learning a new subject- Nature: understanding the scientific method, hypotheses generation and their verification by observation and experimentation. The reference material contains information concerning observational data.

Introduction: Satisfaction with medical care is defined as the patient’s level of acceptance of healthcare, taking into account his or her needs and expectations. Purpose: Determining the level of satisfaction with care in the early postnatal period. Identification of factors affecting the level of satisfaction with care in the early postnatal period. Materials and methods: The study covered 100 women aged 15-45, patients of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department. The study employed the diagnostic survey method, using a custom-designed questionnaire. Results: 68% of hospitalized patients rated the conditions in the unit as good and very good. According to 42% of them, both the doctors and the midwives provided the patients with exhaustive information and expressed empathy. 54% of the surveyed women had not been acquainted with the floor plan of the unit, and 75% of the personnel had not revealed their names or functions to the patients. Conclusions: More than a half of the respondents assessed the level of care as good or very good. Assessing the early postnatal care they received, they mostly considered the conditions ensured by the hospital, the level of care from the personnel, both with respect to the women and newborns, and the general atmosphere in the unit.

The essay deals with the issue of contemporary Marxist notions of exploitation, using Monika Abucewicz’s recent book as a point of reference. It is indeed the case, as Abucewicz claims, that there are in the Marxist camp two distinct approaches to the issue of exploitation, which could be roughly rendered as a political and economic theory of exploitation, respectively. It should be kept in mind, however, that Marx himself subscribed definitely to the economic perspective, and what is being dubbed political perspective on exploitation is a much later invention, and-as it is demonstrated in the essay-much less valuable, if not outright misleading. Among other things, the said framework does not respect an inherent to Marx's approach differentiation between the economy and polity, wherein the latter -identified with the state domain-is being conceived as based on the means of public coercion, which both for Marx, Trotsky, and Max Weber or Florian Znaniecky, for that matter, constituted the hallmark of this sphere, distinguishing it from the economic structure.

The article confronts Karl Marx’s groundbreaking projection of globalization with the statements of modern theoreticians like Max Horkheimer, Zygmunt Bauman and Chris Harman, which are linked to the marxist concept of historical materialism. Author shows the difference between the optimistic vision of social order based on the peaceful coexistence of the integrated humanity, which can be found in Marx’s works, and the negative economical, political, social and psychological consequences of the actual stage of globalization – described by Marx’s modern followers. In the Marx’s idea of “social emancipation” the liberty is harmonized with equality, however, according to Horkheimer, the “administrated world” puts an end to liberty, doing so in her name, on the other hand, according to Bauman, the “disorder” born in the globalizing world excludes both liberty and equality. Reference to Chris Harman servers for the purpose of reminder, that even although, the capitalist system is evolving, it’s essence remains the same, because the capital – at present, and at the times of Marx – is the vampire, living by sucking blood from the proletariat. British theoretician, like Marx before, sees the emancipation capability inside the working class – which now is the most numerous since the beginning of capitalism.

The rapid development of AI technologies will bring about revolutionary changes in the labor market. When considering the possible impact of AI based technologies on the labor market it is important to consider the region-specific cultural differences in Europe, especially those differences which are relevant to understanding the attitude(s) toward work in the region in question. In Eastern Europe – a region once dominated by a workers’ state – work related cultural issues are particularly complex. The main complexity results from two contradictory attitudes, positive and negative, of Eastern Europeans toward work. The article argues that these two attitudes have their origins in one and the same underlying position, which is inherited from the Soviet Union, and that with differing political premises, dominated the Eastern European region.

In the contemporary global economic reality, many social, cultural and political problems emerge. Most of all, this problem is connected with economic and financial spheres. The paradox of contradictions manifests itself between the objective tendency of globalization and universalization and subjective particularism and egoistic interests of transnational corporations, governments and societies towards solving and eliminating them. The following paper presents these problems from the point of view of the threats posed by megetrend of minimizing the labor costs and its far-reaching future results. The important question of robotization and automatization, which should be coordinated with a vision of a macro-scale social policy, is also mentioned. It is emphasised that such policy may be conducted in the area of European Union, because particular states, includuing Poland, are not able to cope with such challenges.

Although the question of women’s vocational development in Galicia has been studied from many scholarly perspectives, it was rarely a subject of separate studies. In the presented article the author deals with main trends in women’s vocational development and with features that characterized the process of women’s gaining the labor market in the years 1880–1910. On the basis of the results of Austrian censuses published in both main all-Austrian and provincial periodicals, it was possible to state that women’s vocational development was of a traditional character. Little participation in that phenomenon belonged to the non-agricultural sector. In comparison to other Polish regions as well as to those of Austrian crown lands Galicia appears to have been very poor and unfavorable. (Trans.: Antoni Sarkady)
