Spuścizna linii starszej i linii młodszej kleckiej zawężona do spuścizny kolejnych ordynatów kleckich jest w miarę kompletna do okresu Michała Hieronima Radziwiłła, kasztelana i wojewody wileńskiego.
Artykuł opisuje trudności i niedogodności w pracy w archiwum magnackim z jakimi spotykali się archiwiści zatrudnieni w nieświeskim archiwum Radziwiłłów w 1. połowie XVIII wieku.

The article describes difficulties and problem in working in a noble family archives encountered by archivists employed in the archives of the Radzwiłł family in Nieśwież during the first half of the 18th century. Advantages and disadvantages of work of Nieśwież’s archivists employed by Michał Kazimierz Radziwiłł alias „Rybeńko” (1702–1762), voivode of Vilnius and Grand Hetman of Lithuania, are described mostly by their correspondence. A summary of these problems was a six-point supplication from October 23, 1743 by the director of archives and library in Nieśwież Józef Weszel, aimed at his employer; the supplication is published as an annex to this article.
Wydany dokument pozwala poznać kompetencje, obowiązki, uposażenie, pochodzenie i wykształcenie sekretarzy magnatów, na przykładzie de Toux, sekretarza Michała Kazimierza Radziwiłła „Rybeńki”.

At the moment lack of subject specific literature does not allow more thorough description of main duties, responsibilities, and salaries of magnate's secretaries. In many cases social background and education of these secretaries remains a mystery. The document mentioned in the title of this article's. The conditions of acceptance of service as given by the gentleman Mr. de Toux to the Prince Hetman of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania as stated on the eighteenth day of March in the year 1756 in Podhorce may provide some answers to at least few the questions. The advantages of de Toux's mind have been listed by his promotor Wacław Rzewuski (1706-1779), at that time Voivode of Podole and the Royal Field Hetman, in correspondence with Michał Kazimierz Radziwiłł "Rybeńko" (1702-1762), Grand Hetman of Lithuania and Voivode of Vilnius, in which it is was clear that the French was fluent in French, German and Latin, all three spoken and written skills, also he was a great engineer and architect, and an outstanding mathematician. He knew engineering, architecture, tactics, and artillery ranks. In spite of his many talents de Toux wished to be in service as a secretary, engineer and architect to "Rybeńko". Based on published "terms and conditions of employment" the reader may himself conduct a character study of Professor of Mathematics Mr. de Toux.
Istotną część tzw. Archiwum Warszawskiego Radziwiłłów - wcześniej części zasobu biblioteki i archiwum nieświeskiego tej rodziny - przechowywanego obecnie w Archiwum Głównym Akt Dawnych stanowią publika. Archiwum Warszawskim Radziwiłłów zawiera diariusze sejmowe i prywatne z lat 1613-1770 [1807] i b.d., spisane głównie w języku polskim i łacinie. W dwóch jednostkach występuje język francuski. W chwili obecnej dział liczy 40 j.a., głównie ksiąg diariuszy sejmowych i prywatnych, co daje ok. 2 m.b. Z posiadanych informacji wynika, iż brakuje diariusza sejmu z 1754 r. w stosunku do stanu z okresu międzywojennego. Wielkiego Księstwa Litewskiego, diariusz konfederacji tarnogrodzkiej z 1715 r. i diariusze Komisji Kurlandzkiej z 1727 r.), Księgę Sigillat z lat 1709-1719 i inne mniej znaczące publika. Dział zawiera księgi, z wyjątkiem diariusza kancelaryjnego Janusza Radziwiłła, wojewody wileńskiego i hetmana wielkiego litewskiego, Autobiografii Bogusława Radziwiłła, koniuszego litewskiego i generalnego namiestnika Prus Książęcych oraz fragmentów diariuszy z XVII i XVIII w. W dziale brak dokumentacji nieaktowej.

Significant a part of so-called Warsaw Archive of Radziwiłł Family - formerly part of collection of Nieśwież library and archive of this family - kept at present in The Central Archives of Historical Records in Warsaw are published materials. They had a unique value in Nieśwież archive, since they were applied as a tool of political activity on a country scale. In Nieśwież archive have retained big amount of materials, which might be called a dossier of old-Polish politician; it made easier to get bearings in the court, provided with model public speeches etc., which consists of correspondent news, written bulletins, so-called "silva rerum" as well a parliament diaries. Therefore collecting of them was purely practical activity, and only with time they became desirable collector's materials. There is also for example, covered with legend, archive of The Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Section 6 of so-called Warsaw Archive of Radziwiłł Family contains parliamentarian and private diaries form years 1613-1770 [1807] and no dated, written mainly in Polish and Latin. In two units found is also French. At present the section contains 40 archival units, mostly tomes of parliamentarian and private diaries, which make up ca. 2 running meter of materials. From possessed information appears lack of parliamentarian diary from 1754, in comparison to the state from interwar period. Analysis of covers, endorsements of diaries, and similar layout of description on backs of books, hint that originally all of them were placed in library of Anna Katarzyna Radziwiłłowa of Sanguszkos in Biała and were sent to the archive and library of Family Radziwiłł in Nieśwież, which was most probably executed by Hieronim Florian Radziwłł (1715-1760), Lithuanian cupbearer in fourties of eighteenth century. As a result of cataloguing works in Archive of Radziwiłł Family, in nineteenth and early twentieth century, into the section includes were private and office diaries of Radziwiłł Family (in the section already had been tome of hearth-tax from 1650 and abiuraty from 1690 of The Grand Duchy of Lithuania, diary of Tarnogród confederation from 1715, and diaries of Kurlandia Committee from 1727), tome of Sigillaty form years 1709-1719 and some other less significant published materials. Ti has to be mentioned here that parliamentarian diaries from the section, as was the common custom, contain also copies of public letters, diplomatic correspondence, and leaflets, etc. The section contains tomes, except for office diary by Janusz Radziwłł, voivode of Vilnius and hetman of Grand Duchy of Lithuania, Autobiography by Bogusław Radziwłł, Lithuanian equerry and general governor of Ducal Prussia and fragments of diaries from seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The entire archival material is retained in good condition, except for few units, which require conservation.
The purpose of the article is to provide a detailed description of Stężyca court of justice for nobility registers from the years 1564-1792. In the 19th century they were moved to Warsaw, where in 1944 they burned down during the fire at the Central Archive of Historical Records (AGAD). In this aspect, the article is a contribution to expanding the knowledge of AGAD’s archival losses during the Second World War. Despite complete destruction of Stężyca court of justice for nobility registers, intermediate sources have survived, providing an insight into their historical stock. Their inventory, prepared in 1792 and published in an appendix to this article, is of great value for studying the Stężyca court of justice for nobility registers.

After the death of his first wife Zuzanna Sereda (1596), Janusz Ostrogski (1554-1620), Castellan of Cracow, married fifteen-year-old Katarzyna Lubomirska (1582-1611). Their wedding took place in Nowy Sacz on November 25, 1597. Katarzyna was the eldest daughter of Sebastian Lubomirski (c. 1546-1613) Castellan of Małogoszcz and żupnik of Kraków and Anna Branicka (1567-1639). It is difficult to assess whether Katarzyna’s feelings mattered for her parents while they were choosing a husband for her. Age of the bride and the age difference between spouses suggests that marriage was considered by Janusz Ostrogski as a way to sustain and strengthen links with the Lubomirskis house. Immediately after the wedding, in addition to the dowry, which included a sum of money, the daughter received trousseau. These were the things for her personal and household use, such as clothing, silver jewels, carpets, and animals. The published list of Katarzyna Lubomirska’s trousseau of 1597 shows both the Lubomirskis family fortune, as well as, penchant of the Polish nobility for rich robes and furs prevailing at the end of the 16th century . Costly garments were supplemented by rich jewels of gold and precious stones. This list of troussou is input to the development of description of the culture of everyday life, wealth, economic relations and of social differentiation within the nobility.
Many modern historians are asking themselves what remained after the Ostrogski Family - one of the most important and most prominent aristocratic families of Poland? It is certain that the vast estates passed through the daughters of Alexander (1570-1603), Voivode (governor) of Volhynia and Janusz Ostrogski (1554-1620), the castellan (commander) of Cracow to the Lubomirski, Chodkiewicz, Zamoyski, Radziwill and Zasławski Families. Later, through the various marriages, Ostrogski estates enriched the Sanguszko, Wisniowiecki, Jabłonowscy families and many other noble and aristocratic families. After 1870, the rich Ostrogski family archive was destroyed (and still we do not know in what circumstances). The archiv was in possession of the Lubomirskis in Dubno, and then in Dermań. Only remains of this archives survived as a parts of the other magnates and nobility archives. Released here Inventory of movable goods of Janusz Ostrogski (1554-1620), Castellan of Cracow, stored at the Ćmielów castle in 1620 is a modest attempt to present what the last male representative of the wealthiest aristocratic family in Poland of that period possessed in one of his treasures on the eve of his death.

This article is devoted to the diseases (gout and chiragra) and autopsy of the remains of Prince Konstanty Władysław Sobieski (1680–1726). Polish magnates in the first half of the 18th century were generally in poor health. This is evident from the autopsy protocols. They are rare relics of the history of medicine in Poland. The most interesting ones describe autopsies of famous people. One of them was Konstanty Władysław Sobieski, who died on 22nd July 1726 at his castle in Żółkiew. Dating of the autopsy resolves doubts about the date of his death. Publication of Prince Sobieski's autopsy report will broaden the source base for historical medicine. It may constitute a valuable source in the discussion about the causes of degradation and eventual demise of the Sobieski magnate family.

Ukazują to protokoły sekcji zwłok. Należą one do rzadkich zabytków historii medycyny w Rzeczypospolitej.
This text is a contribution to the history of the Radziwiłł Family archives in Nieśwież into which were added archival records gathered in Biała village. The basis for the description of the archives in Biała village were commands of Anna Katarzyna Radziwiłł, née Sanguszko (1676–1746) issued in September and October 1736. At that time it was decided to displace the archives. The decisions taken at that time were source of knowledge on the holdings of the archives in Biała, state of the records elaboration and employees. The Greater Library (Latin), and most of the archives belonging to the entail Nieśwież and Ołyka were transported to Nieswież with the exception of records that were needed for the current administration of goods of Anna Katarzyna Radziwiłł and her younger son, Hieronim Florian Radziwiłł (1715–1760). Year 1736 was significant for the history of the Radziwiłł Family archives as it was when a new building of the archive and library was opened in Biała village by order of Anna Katarzyna Radziwiłł.
Death of the family members or friends and acquaintances, has always been an extraordinary, notable and memorable event. Death was present in the memoirs and diaries, in which we find many descriptions of death of the relatives and friends as well as the funeral ceremonies. Memoirists expressed in them their feelings when confronted with the death of loved ones and friends. Diaries and correspondence much better than mournful speeches and eulogies show contributors’ attitude to death. Openly and honestly give a convincing evidence of human feelings. This article analysis feeling described in the diary of Michał Kazimierz Radziwiłł known as ’Rybeńko‘ (1702–1762), the governor of Vilnius and Lithuanian Grand Hetman. As a reference point for considerations served note of 23rd December 1746, including information on the death of his mother, Anna Katarzyna Radziwiłł, née Sanguszko (1676–1746), wife of the great Lithuanian Chancellor. Radziwiłł reveals in his diary attitudes towards death mainly of relatives. It shows not only how to "feel a death” in the context of everyday life, but also reveals the multi-faceted relations occurring in Nieśwież between the living and the dead. Author describes Radziwiłł’s attitude to death and the afterlife, as well as, the extent to which death ritual had impact on strengthening social and ancestral ties. Analyzing the homogenous source material, which is the diary, the author tried to capture what Michał Kazimierz Radziwiłł was thinking about death and dying beyond the message directly written by him.
The article discusses the content of notes for Emilian Szeliga Żernicki’s armorial, preserved in the Central Archives of Historical Records in Warsaw. The notes are part of a file, created by Żernicki when preparing the book Der polnische Adel und die demselben hinzugetretenen andersländischen Adelsfamilien, General-Verzeichniss (Bd. 1–2, Hamburg 1900). Notes preserved in the file complement the information contained in the printed version of the armorial
“Report on the archives in Nieśwież” of November 6th, 1857, was a description of the inventory work conducted in this archive in the years 1854–1857. It was submitted by Ludwik Rodziewicz for acceptance to the Radziwiłłs’ archivist Romuald Symonowiczowi. Later this report was to be forwarded to the superiors, i.e. Wittgensteins and Radziwiłłs. In the published source the attention is drawn to the archivists’ way of thinking, adopted by them priorities and suggestions regarding the archival description details as well as planning and scope of the records registration. This was a part of the archive-creating process associated with the inventory work carried out by archivists Romuald Symonowicz and Michał Szyszko Bohusz. “Report on the archives in Nieśwież” gives detailed answers to the questions: 1) Who and why collected and stored the archival records, 2) how the process of appraisal looked like, 3) How it was cared about the archives and how the records were ordered, and 4) How the records were used in the magnate archive in Nieśwież in the late 19. c.
In the article “Strange Fate of the Treasury of Henry de Raës in the Era of the Swedish Deluge and the Unsuccessful Attempts to Regain It” [“Barok” (Historia–Literatura–Sztuka), XV/1 (29) 2008, pp. 71–87] the author focuses on the “fortune” of Henri de Raës, which was lost during his service for of Bogusław Radziwiłł (1620–1669), Lithuanian Master of the Horse (Equerry) and Governor General of Prussia. The fate of the treasury of Henry de Raes is an example of a standard model of foreign soldier’s career in the modern Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The source documents published in the article are an illustration of this career pattern and may be conventionally called curriculum vitae of Henry de Raës. These documents were created for settlement of claims what their titles indicate too (“claims” and “explanation of the claims”). The article in “Barok” was based largely on hypotheses taking into account the limited sources credibility. Bearing this in mind the author wants to give the reader possibility of his own interpretation. Kinship and offices that representatives of the de Raës family held till the early nineteenth century (when the line became extinct in Poland) are described in the introduction to the sources in order to illustrate the importance of what achieved the de Raës family without indigenatus being granted to the progenitor of the family in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. In the introduction to the sources the author deals with the denization of foreign officers serving in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth during “the Deluge”.

W latach 1690–1692 dokonano renowacji cynowej trumny hetmana i kanclerza wielkiego koronnego Stanisława Żółkiewskiego (1547–1620). Trumna hetmana została przewieziona z kościoła parafialnego w Żółkwi do pobliskiego Lwowa. Tam poddano ją renowacji. Prace te wykonali rzemieślnicy lwowscy złotnik Żyd Dawid i konwisarz Aleksander. Koszt tych prac wyniósł 1299 złotych i 7 groszy. Naprawiona trumna 16 I 1692 r. wróciła do Żółkwi. Publikowane w powyższej edycji rachunki obrazują na trudności na jakie natrafili wykonawcy polecenia króla. W artykule opisano też późniejsze dzieje cynowej trumny Żółkiewskiego.

In 1690–1692 tin coffi n of Grand Chancellor of the Crown and Hetman Stanisław Żółkiewski (1547–1620) was renovated. Renovation was commissioned and paid for by his grandson, King John III Sobieski (1629–1696). Renovation took place in Lviv, as part of construction of a church and monastery of Carmelite Sisters, also founded by the king. Hetman Żółkiewski’s coffi n was transported from parish church in Żółkiew to nearby Lviv, where it was renovated. Works were performed by Lviv artisans – goldsmith David the Jew and whitesmith Aleksander. Cost of works amounted to 1299 złoty and 7 grosz. On 16th January 1692, repaired coffi n was returned to Żółkiew. Bills published in the article illustrate diffi culties, encountered by those fulfi lling the orders of the king. Further history of Żółkiewski’s tin coffi n is also described.
The literature lacks descriptions of how the wills were drown up. Information is usually ended with citation that the last will was made “on one’s deathbed” or “in disease”. Testimony made by Michał Stanisław Pastwicki on June 25, 1711 regarding wills of Anna nee Chodorowska Dolska primo voto Wiśniowiecka (ca. 1661–1711) allowed one to glimse behind the scenes of drawing up this kind of records. It proved that Anna nee Chodorowska Dolska dictated the last of her wills between 8 and 13 May 1711. The testimony drew attention to hurry and consistency in action and that adjustments were made in the document until the death of Anna Dolska, and were being hidden under the date of the earlier wills. Analysis of this “testimony” leads to the conclusion that the date of death of Anna nee Chodorowska Dolska should be shifted from May 6 – as stated in a book by Ilona Czamańska – on the night of 13 to 14 May 1711.
According to the authors migration, fate and conditions of work of old masters of pot and pan are one of the most important, and certainly one of the most neglected way in Poland to get to know the history of food. That is why, they want to show that there are sources to overcome this obstacle and to give the history of gastronomy in Poland finally the form of in-depth study of sources embedded in the context of the contemporary historiography of the subject. The paper present eight contracts: with the French chef Michel Barbatt, chefs Antoni Głowacki, Johan Keder German chef, Italian chef Antonio Garofozo, German chefs and a baker at the same time Johann Karl Löhner, Saxon pastry–cook Jean Poul Ebhardt, German pastry-cook Friedrich Dollinger and master of pate Jan Szymanski. These contracts are part of so–called Radziwills' Warsaw Archives, preserved at the Central Archives of Historical Records in Warsaw and one contract with Tadeusz Rydzewski, Deputy Cup–bearer [podczaszy], which is part of Ogińskis’ Archives stored at the Historical Archives in Vilnius, Lithuania.
