The 2019 PBC document views relationships between parents and children, masters and servants, “shepherds” and “the flock,” civil authority and citizens as asymmetric. The structure of the document suggests that these relationship systems are based on shared human experience and a common theological foundation: they appear to repeat the pattern of the parent-child relationship and originate in the obligation to obey God. Using the document as a starting point, I would like to outline what the concept of asymmetric relationships can mean today. In search of common perspectives, I will compare New Testament texts with the interpretation of asymmetry in today’s social ethics discourse. The inequality and asymmetry of different persons and groups seem to be an undeniable fact, causing tension that can be resolved fruitfully by parties who take responsibility for each other in the presence of a “third.”
Each child has been guaranteed some rights and the adults are obliged to obey them. However, the subject of children’s duties is not generally discussed, forgetting about parent’s rights or legal guardian’s rights. The obedience duty of the people excercising parental authority is widely known. The main aim of he pr esent paper is to indicate that Polish legislator imposes a bit more duties on children both in the respect of parents as well as legal guardians. What is more, these responsibilities do not expire when the child comes of age, but they remain in his/her adulthood
Obedience raises an attitude of availability. The priest who obeys the bishop is not looking himself and his will, but the will of Christ and the good of the Church. There is no obedience without asceticism, work on yourself, and without the spirit of prayer and sacrifice. The priest who is capable to full obedience, is the one who breaks his selfishness, and his will and glory. The Congregation for the Clergy developing renewed Directory for the Ministry and Life of Priests, tried to focus on the most significant aspects of the teaching of the Church concerning sacred ministry, referring to the essential documents of John Paul II and Benedict XVI. Among these aspects was a question of obedience. This article takes only some elements of obedience, which are the availability of the priest, his obedience to a superior, respect for liturgical norms and ecclesiastical attire.

The goal of this article was to check whether the Pole is obedient to authority (which is a represented by a police uniform)? Is uniform exposure sufficient factor, which convinces respondents to behave in line with the law on road traffic safety? The authority has been identified with a police uniform, because the right to wear the uniform under the threat of criminal sanctions have only policemen. Because of the professional role they have the right to enforce obedience from individuals or groups representing civil society. The study was conducted in one of the largest towns in Lower Silesia (Poland), in the month of April 2016. The participants of the natural experiment were people passing through the crossing on one of the intersections with heavy traffic. Natural experiment took place at the unwitting complicity of police officers, their task was a routine patrolling crosswalks. The results of the experiment prove to be interesting, because the association between exposure of police uniform and the tendency to comply with traffic regulations had been observed.
Prov 1:8-9 is an admonition to listen to and receive as one’s own the instruction that follows from parental experience. Its value is compared to a magnificent wreath on one’s head and to jewellery which lend splendour and glory to their owner. Wisdom, similarly to material goods, is worth desiring. However, the author encourages his audience to direct one’s desire for possessions toward wisdom which will never deteriorate or lose its lustre.
The review of the book is intended to highlight the main aporias raised by the French philosopher. It is based on the assumption that reading Frédéric Gros' work is a valuable source of information for anyone wishing to deepen their knowledge of both current and past social problems. The philosopher leads extraordinary research on the human individual who participates in the civic structure. The main element of the researcher's contemplation is the title disobedience, which is investigated through the prism of philosophy, science, history and even art. The author stands up for humanism and reason.

Observing the transformations taking place in the world, it is important to note the need for continuous reference in various areas of human life to Mary, whose example is always relevant. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to present Mary as a model of faith and moral life for the contemporary disciples of Christ. Mary – with her example – teaches one how to be a disciple of Christ in an authentic way, not superficial one. She is an example of understanding the Christian life as a commitment. Looking to Mary as an example, the individual learns to obey God in the path of faith and finds the values that lead him or her through the paths of the Christian moral life. Life permeated with the Marian spirit becomes an inspiration for the contemporary disciples of Christ to grow in faith, to do good and radically reject everything which is in contrary to the Christian ideal.
The article presents the issue of obedience and disobedience, referring to Stanley Milgram’s research paradigm and the more recent models and observations gathered around this issue. Special attention is paid to the importance attributed to disobedience and its relationship with obedience. According to different authors it allows to see more broadly the mechanisms both of these processes than one-sided description each of them. First of all it shows also the role of the individual’s sense of power in shaping these processes. In the context of the theories author presents the course and results of an experiment. The experiment was devoted to the role of sense of power in determining students obedience toward the commands of the formal teacher’s authority. Project of research was based on a model of power as an approach-inhibition system by D. Keltner, D.H. Gruenfeld and C. Anderson. A part of undergraduates who participated in this study have been inducted in the sense of power, the second part have been reduced. Then checked whether and how long the persons from both groups comply with a groundless and an unreasonable teacher’s command. Hypotheses were confirmed. The results of the experiment are discussed.
The authority of the bishop, and in particular moral authority, belongs to the essence of the Gospel message, that is, to the nature of the Catholic Church, and is the basis for fulfilling its mission. It means that whoever is considered such an authority has special prerogatives, e.g. he knows more and better, has good will, etc., just like a good parent in a family. In this perspective, the position of the current Pope Francis is important, who, attaching great importance to what bishops in the Church should be like, states that bishops should be obedient to him, have a broad vision of the Church and reality, be men of prayer, should preach the Word of God and contribute to the unity of the faithful. An important answer to why such a requirement is made is given by Cano. 1752 of the 1983 Code of Canon Law, stating: salus animarum suprema lex (the salvation of souls is the highest law). This passage has in its eloquence a character summarizing the entire legal norm in the Church, built on Catholic theology and ethics. It has indeed been entered into the procedural rules for the transfer of parish priests, but its wording remains (for example, for a moral theologian or canonist) particularly significant. It is based on the fact that if a person is guided by the imperative of conscience, then his obedience results from the fear of sanction, not an external one, but an internal one.
The article deals with three main ideas. (1) The philosophical roots of punishment in modern criminal law are the same in countries that very much differ among each other as far as the level of severity of their systems is concerned. It is therefore something else than just philosophical roots that have an impact on criminal and penal policy of a country. Those other possible elements are then discussed. (2) The philosophical roots of punishment in modern criminal law often refer to the Hammurabi rule: “eye for an eye”, and are read as a justification for severe punishment. The article questions this assumption and proposes an interpretation which seems to be much closer to Hammurabi’s original idea. (3) Countries with differences in criminal and penal policy might introduce equally wrong laws abridging the core human rights when they resort to dehumanization practices and moral disengagement. It is especially possible when fear of foreign cultures and terrorism prevails. An example of such legislation, an aviation law in German and Poland, is discussed.
The discernment of motions in the soul is raised, from the dawn of the Church, as a first necessity for the spiritual life.Motions that come from God pass through our soul, but there are also tendencies that are born of our own nature, and there are others that are suggested to us by the devil, whom St. Ignatius calls “the enemy of human nature”. It is therefore urgent to learn to discern where the different motions come from, to support them, or to combat them. In this field, because of its particular difficulty, special attention should be paid to the deceptions of the devil “sub angelo lucis”, that is, those who are under the appearance of good or virtue.St. Ignatius of Loyola, in his Spiritual Exercises, gives fundamental Rules in this regard, and in other meditations helps to understand the need to clarify the thought and rectify the intention. St John of the Cross in his works completes this Ignatian reflection on the confusion created by the devil “sub angelo lucis”.

Saint Teresa of Ávila intrinsically connects discernment of the spirits with her principal theme of inner prayer. The main constituents of her doctrine of prayer (obedience, humility, charity, detachment) also represent key motifs in her view on discernment. From this perspective, Santa Teresa’s sparse assertions can be integrated into a coherent doctrine on discernment of the spirits, founded in her deep religious experience. Discernment emerges as the core of Christian life and the genuine way in which the Divine Friend gives light for choices that make human persons grow in virtues and in inner freedom.

The author analyzes the provisions of canon law shaping the relationship between the bishop and his subordinate clergy. The author comes to the conclusion that this relationship in various aspects does not meet the legal regulations about an employment relationship under Polish law. The bishop–presbyter relationship is different then the regulations known in secular law and belongs to the sphere of autonomy of the Church. Based on the provisions of canon law, it is also impossible to formulate and defend the thesis that the bishop has the ability, right and duty to comprehensively, comprehensively supervise the behavior of the clergy under his authority, especially in what is not part of their ministerial ministry.

The promise of obedience becomes the real promise in an act of ordination. The core of the priest obedience is in the example of Jesus Christ, the highest Pastor and the Priest through whom they are part of Christ’s priesthood. Church is a hierarchical order from God’s provision of it, therefore priest is required to show respect and obedience to the pope and superiors who are members of apostolic fellowship.

The article reviews and analyses the history of Abraham and its existential implications. The author claims that the story reveals three particularly important aspects: the salvation as liberation from fear, deep freedom resulting from that experience and obedience to God as exceeding what is impossible to understand. All these interrelated aspects of Christian life are truly essential. Since modern culture seems to be predominantly and increasingly anti Christian and it shows and promotes anti Christian values and patterns of behaviour, it is particularly important for the faith to be a brave one.
The role of divine power in Aquinas’s spiritual doctrine has often been neglected in favor of a focus on the primacy of charity, the controlling virtue of spiritual progress. The tendency among some thinkers (e.g. Polkinghorne) to juxtapose divine love and power stems from the stress on divine immanence at the cost of divine transcendence, and from an evolutionary (vs. classical) view of God with its ‘kenotic’ theodicy. A study of the ways in which divine power grounds and directs the spiritual life highlights the robust role that metaphysics plays in spiritual ascent for Aquinas, and offers a philosophical entry point to his doctrine. Themes in his doctrine of the spiritual life incorporate Platonic transcendent causal plenitude and Aristotelian causal axioms and motifs of growth and unity. From the side of theology, divine power is analyzed through several lenses, including power through weakness in Christ, the sin of Lucifer against the gift of being in contrast to the counsel of obedience, and the role of Christ’s human nature in the Church. Taken together, these themes combine to characterize divine power as redemptive medicine, as opposed to a distant, arbitrary force, and to reveal the ways in which Aquinas applies metaphysical insights to the supernatural order.
Man is someone real and as such he is immersed in a world that is a task set to him as a person. Therefore, the whole world, as entirely coming from God, and entirely assigned to Him, is constantly bursting with its natural truth and good and, consequently, also beauty. This is an important perspective, both in the order of nature and in the order of grace, also because the synthesis and fulfilment of all values (perfections), which is personal fullness – holiness, is the ultimate reference of the human person to the Person of God. However, this perspective becomes comprehensible only in the field of the realism of the human person’s truth, goodness and beauty, related to their perfect Source, and therefore to the Truth, Goodness and Beauty of the Person of God Himself. In this sense, it can be said that God is the End of all perfections. Holiness itself is thus a specific peak of the elevation of human potentialities to a higher level of being. „Holiness, through the elevation of truth, goodness and beauty to the supernatural level, can fulfil the potential of human nature – reason and will, to their limits; and this fulfilment, in Christian thought, can only take place in visio beatifica, to which this life here and now is supposed to prepare us”. Let us add that the understanding and implementation of evangelical counsels: chastity, poverty and obedience, serve this growth in a particular way. The counsels are the evangelical factor stimulating and strengthening the work of the intellect and free will.
The obedience of the diocesan and religious priest is part of the mission of following Jesus Christ himself. It is an expression of availability to God and His plans. It is a constant search and discovery of His will. Religious priestly obedience is linked to the vowed evangelical counsel of obedience and the pledge of honor and obedience made during the ordination of the diaconate and the presbyterate. Diocesan obedience to the liturgy of diaconate and presbyterate ordination has a similar responsibility, but it binds the priest directly to the local Church.

Posłuszeństwo diecezjalne składane podczas liturgii święceń diakonatu i prezbiteratu posiada podobny zakres odpowiedzialności, wiąże jednak kapłana bezpośrednio z Kościołem lokalnym.
