The history of the Camaldolese library in Bielany near Warsaw is strongly related to the history of the hermitage that was founded by Vladislaus IV. The fall of the Noble’s Republic stopped the development of the hermitage while the dissolution of the monasteries and closing the novitiate led to its liquidation in 1902. Finally, the creation of a parish in 1905 and handing over the monastery buildings to the Marian Fathers ended its history. Apart from the buildings, the Marians also took over the post-Camaldolese collection of books. They combined it with the books from the library of the Warsaw Reformats, and then started ordering and compiling the collection. During World War II, a significant part of the collection was destroyed or dispersed. The effort of rebuilding the library that was undertaken after the termination of hostility was interrupted in 1954 when the Marians had to leave Bielany After a short stay in the Library of the Theological Seminary in Warsaw, the collection was distributed among different Marian monasteries. The Bielany library was dispersed and a part of its collection landed in Lublin. It consists of 8 incunabula, 5 of which were the property of the Archbishop Jakub Wydżga. There are the works from the Nuremberg publishing house of A. Koberger, Bologna publishing house of H.B. Faelli and Rome publishing house of S. Plannack. On the basis of provenience notes, the Camaldolese library can be also assigned with 32 old prints. Most of them came from testaments, donations and legacies.

The main purpose of this paper is to present selected manuscripts and old prints containing Virgil’s poetic works preserved in the collections of the Kórnik Library. A luxurious parchment manuscript from 1466, probably written for King Matthias Corvinus of Hungary, and an old-print with commentaries by Philip Melanchthon from the end of the 16th century were selected for deeper analysis. The latter book is preserved in two separate volumes in different libraries, which provided an opportunity to compare the two. Some attention was paid to the old-print containing the Italian translation of the Aeneid.

Lvov typographies in the first half of the XVIIth century made efforts to promote and increase the level of teaching in the Kyiv Metropolitanate. Reformers from Lvov led a crusade to renew the custom of proclaiming the Word of God, including through the selection and printing of appropriate patristic translation works and various church books, which were escorted by paratexts, intended for priests (including for church teachers). They also put a lot of effort into forming teachers who were characterized by an appropriate level of knowledge and moral values. These efforts were an important part of the reform which also was undertaken in other educational and publishing centers (or by independent publishers) and directed at the revival of a priest’s teaching service in the Kyiv Metropolitanate.

The article is dedicated to the production of Aleš Knobloch of Pirnsdorf, a steward and writer from the first half of the 16th century. His two preserved works were published in 1561: the farm handbook Regiment zprávy ovčího dobytku [The regiment of the sheep management] and the moral Písně dvě nové o tom hanebném a nekřesťanském trunkopolství [Two new songs on shameful and non-Christian drunkenness]. The lexical aspect of the songs is interesting – besides Knobloch’s neologisms trunkopolství [drunkenness] and trunkopolec [drunkard], there also occur other names connected with the drunkard themes, e.g. the names of toasts and drinking vessels. The attractiveness of the songs for the reader is increased by folk sayings concerning the drunkard’s conduct, e.g. zerval kantora [literally: he knocked down a school-master], i.e. he vomited, [literally: the tongue is walking in bedroom slippers], plete se mu jazyk [literally: his speech is beginning to slur], i.e. he articulates badly, or propaluje řešídko [literally: s/he is burning a hole in the sieve], i.e. s/he is disclosing a secret.

Władysław Bartynowski was a famous Polish numismatist active in the second half of 19th century in Cracow. Apart from coins, his collection included also old historical graphics, prints and books. He worked as an antiquarian and publisher, and his key aim was to protect Polish cultural heritage and works of art representing his areas of interest. Therefore, he was not only collecting and trading, but also cataloguing, maintaining and reproducing prints, graphics , books and coins. Motivated by patriotic feelings, he used to take care of the safety of relics he received and the availability of copies to all interested parties. He was one of the first Polish makers of old prints facsimiles, which he called the likenesses. As an editor of „Wiadomości Archeologiczno-Numizmatyczne”, he tried to improve the method of reproduction of coins and medals on paper. In relations to that, he invented own method of hollow graphic reproduction of numismates on paper. These prints, called bartynotypes, were used mainly for cataloguing of the collection of count Andrzej Potocki. Unfortunately, the collection, like many other relics, was damaged or dispersed due to World Wars. Bartynowski’s reproductions remain the only relic of the lost works of numismatic, graphic and printing art, as well as the art of medals. He donated the greater part of the collection to the Czapski Muzeum he established together with the count Emeryk Hutten-Czapski and his wife. The paper on the Władysław Bartynowski’s publishing portfolio is based mostly on his family archive. It is one of the chapters of a planned book about the Bartynowski Family.

Old prints, part of the Vilnius Dominican collection, currently held in the Zamojski Library named after Stanisław Kostka Zamoyski, originate from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries and are the product of numerous foreign and domestic publishing houses. The collection of 92 bibliographic items includes works relating to various areas of human knowledge at the time but is directed at the needs of the congregation. The books were intended to serve the members of the convent in their pastoral and educational work. The provenance marks and notes show the previous owners of individual copies and the methods of collecting them, as well as the traces of use by actual readers. They are an important contribution to the reconstruction of this scattered book collection.

Znaki i noty proweniencyjne pokazują wcześniejszych właścicieli poszczególnych egzemplarzy i sposoby gromadzenia, a ślady użytkowania rzeczywistych czytelników.

Dzięki licznym programom opracowywania i dofinansowywania prac nad dorobkiem umysłowym, znajdującym się w zasobach m.in. bibliotek, powstały biblioteki, muzea i archiwa cyfrowe, oferujące dostęp do swoich zbiorów z poziomu internetu.

Digitization as an element of technological development has contributed to the removal of many information barriers related to access to the achievements of writing and printing culture. Thanks to numerous programs of developing and subsidizing work on intellectual property, digital libraries, museums and archives have been created, offering access to their collections online. Digital forms of priceless manuscripts, old prints, documents of social life and other manifestations of culture are not only a way of conservation and preservation of the originals or the presentation of library magazines, but also sources for research. The content of the Digital Library Federation – DLF, which associates 138 data providers, will be used as an example of digitized old prints along with ways of describing, searching, displaying results and special addons that make their use simple and effective. As a result of the research, 38,629 items marked as old prints were found in the database, supplied by 38 institutions, the most numerous being those provided by the Jagiellonian Digital Library and the Lower Silesia Digital Library, with the predominance of 18th and 17th century and Latin and Polish prints.

At the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries, a reformation of monastics life was undertaken by the Benedictines from Chelmno. It was legitimised by the modified edition of Benedictine monastic rules published inLublin in 1635.One of the elements of the editorial frame of the printed text is a letter toPolishChurchleaders by the Apostolic Nuncio toPolandand the translation of that letter into Polish. Despite the identical structure of both texts, there are some differences in their typographical structure. The differences include using different type of print in composition, different location of the text on page or highlighting particular words by majuscules or romans. The abovementioned differences in typographical technique do not breach, however, the approximate graphic structuralization of the texts in both Polish and Latin. The function of this technique is universal, namely to deliminate and expose the text and its sequences visually.

Na przełomie XVI i XVII wieku benedyktynki z klasztoru w Chełmnie przeprowadziły reformę życia zakonnego usankcjonowaną prawnie w zmodyfikowanej wersji reguły św.
