The title hero belonged to Spytek’s fraction, then he took part in the Hungarian expedition of Wladislaus of Varna, and during the reign of Casimirus Jagiellonian his political career accelerated. Thanks to the favor of the rulers, he received endowments of royal property, took over the Łęczyca starosty, reached for land offices and finally got to the royal court. As the court marshal, he joined the group of the political elite of the Kingdom.

Tytułowy bohater należał do obozu Melsztyńskiego, następnie brał udział w wyprawie węgierskiej Władysława Warneńczyka, a w czasach Kazimierza Jagiellończyka jego kariera polityczna nabrała przyspieszenia. Będąc marszałkiem nadwornym, wszedł do grona elity politycznej Królestwa.

This article discusses the content of the inscriptions commemorating Valerian Olszowski coat of arms Prus II. The tombstone is in the church of saint Lawrence in Stolec in the Renaissance style. The inscription has got several obvious advantages. Firstly, it informs about the political role of the family Olszowscy, both Valerian and his sons. This monument is also an excellent example of the use of epigraphic monuments in genealogical researches and accurately determines the cause of death of the title character. The article is also an attempt to resolve a heraldic program, which consists of coats of arms Prus II, Jastrzębiec, Ostoja, Topór. In addition to this, the author took the issues related to the origin of the family Olszowscy, which should be treated as a contribution to the history of this family in the Central Poland.

Peter (III) came from Będków, a town located on the border of the Łęczyca and Sieradz voivodeships. As the first of his family reached officials. He was a swordfish (1507–1508), standard-bearer (1508–1512) and castellan in Brzeziny (1512–1521). As a castellan Peter was able to sit in the senate. So far in the historiography there has been a view that Peter died in 1527. However, in the light of recent findings the date of his death has been postponed in 1524. In connection with newly discovered sources, the author of this article proposed a new date of Peter’s death. Well, in 1523 Stanisław Wspinek, the son of Peter, arrived Brzeziny and a trace of his visit is a record in terrestrial book which shows that Peter was dead.

The article discusses the history of several generations of the noble family Olszowscy coat of arms Wilczekosy or II of Prussia, focusing primarily on the medieval ancestors of this family. There has been a gap in the historiography, which has mostly been associated with the character of Primate Andrzej Olszowski, who is considered a leading figure in this context. This genealogical statement is a follow-up to the fate of the earliest proven sources of Andrzej Olszowski’s ancestors. The issues related to the family’s coat of arms were also analyzed. The article also discusses the cloaking of the coat of arms, the function of the emblem, and explains the trap for wolves, and tracks the first references to the coat of arms.
The text presents research problems regarding small towns of the Łęczyca land in the Middle Ages and the early modern era. Based on selected examples, the following difficulties were shown and discussed: the lack of city books, the ambiguity of Latin terms, disturbances in the chronology of sources, identification of people, distinguishing between villages and cities with the same names. Written sources containing information on small towns were also characterised. In the light of the indicated problems, it is the town and land ledgers as well as tax registers that remain the basic sources for researching their history.

W tekście zaprezentowano problemy badawcze odnośnie do małych miast ziemi łęczyckiej w średniowieczu i wczesnej epoce nowożytnej. W obliczu wskazanych problemów to właśnie księgi grodzkie i ziemskie oraz rejestry podatkowe pozostają podstawowymi źródłami do badania dziejów tych terenów.
The aim of this article is to present the figure of Piotr from Stryków, Łazęka coat of arms. He came from Stryków, located in the Łęczyca Land (Brzeziny County), which was the seat of the Łazęka family. After the death of his brothers, he became the sole administrator of the family estate. The text shows various aspects of the title character’s activities. The main attention was focused on his property and investment activities. In addition, his knighthood card and participation in the Battle of Chojnice (1454) were signaled, as well as his political activities on the national and local level. Piotr had large financial resources at his disposal, because in the light of the current state of research, the transactions he conducted (until the mid-15th century) slightly exceeded the amount of 5,000 grzywnas. One of his economic strategies was to pledge land with the possibility of perpetual takeover.
The aim of the article is to verify and complete the information on the defensive structures found in the area of the former Łęczyca region from the Middle Ages until the end of the Jagiellonian era (1572). The subject matter proposed in the text (understood as defensive construction) has already benefited fro, several studies (such as the publications in the field of archeology by Prof. Leszek Kajzer and a contribution on fortress and defensive manors in the former Brzeziny poviat by Prof. Anna Marciniak-Kajzer). The intention of the authors is to confront the current state of knowledge, based primarily on the results of archaeological research, with the previously unused information from the written sources. The main object of these considerations is such objects as: fortifications, castles, fragments of city walls, etc. The text is mainly based on the previously unused in this context medieval and modern manuscript sources from the area of the former Łęczyca voivodeship, in which information about these architectural structures has been preserved, and attention was drawn to the ambiguity of Latin terms (e.g. castrum), relating to defensive structures. The results of the undertaken research could be useful for a more precise determination of the dating of this type of buildings, and shall will allow in many instances to supplement the results of archaeological research. Finally, these results will demonstrate the defense potential of this territory. This text is a contribution to possible comparative research on the formulated problem in relation to other historical regions of Poland.

Niniejszy tekst stanowi przyczynek do ewentualnych badań porównawczych nad sformułowanym problemem w odniesieniu do innych historycznych regionów Polski.
