The article is devoted to an examination of the ways in which particular pop culture artefacts (works of popular culture) can be used in the educational process, in accordance with the particularities that reflect the external differentiation of groups educated in certain ways (pre-school age, younger students, older students, adolescents). The initial premise is that we can intentionally use pop culture artefacts to evoke authentic experiences in the educational process. The inter-textual nature of pop culture artefacts means that the potential recipient is able to read the full significance only when equipped with a certain amount of knowledge, which is not immediately present in the artefact, but that the viewer is aware of due to existing schemata.

The author points out some most important conditions and premises of so-called specific loss of a generation of young Poles. He states that basic human needs - safety and acceptance as well as development ones - are blocked at present. A group of development needs has been determined by a group of psychical needs of a human being. But at the same time safety and acceptance needs can not be realized making room for situations of different dangers, feeling of helplessness or loneliness etc. The phenomenon of blocking the needs is intensified with two mechanism of a psycho-social character i.e. a mechanism of deceived hopes and a mechanism of incapacitation of the youth (children). Also various consequences of features and pathologies (normalcy) of a different level authority become hazards. One of the educational antinomies arises from these premises. It is a pedagogy that emphasizes education without hope, education equal to manipulation, doctrine and dogmatic education as well as education deprived of subjectivity and democracy. One of the effects of such education is a set-back in development of various social forces.. Educational tasks that can lead to overcoming such a situation are not only of theoretical character. They have to be closely related to practical solutions in the sphere of economics, decision-making and activities in politics, state social and educational policy and last but not least they have to be in accordance with a type of central and local authority in being. The author in his paper describes constitutive features of education and draws some new educational strategies and their practical implications.

The following publication: Tadeusz Slipko's Polemics with the Materialist Ideology presents an outstanding Polish ethicist, the author of Zarys etyki ogolnej i szczegolowej (Eng. An Outline of General and Detailed Ethics). Presenting his own perspective on Christian ethics, he belongs to those who undertake polemics with the materialist ideology on the basis of philosophy. The author reveals here his critical references to the ideas of Hegel or Marx, probably made so as to express - through a kind of acceptance of the phenomena observed and analysed by Marxism - a critical stand both when it comes to the assumptions of materialism and atheism as well as the conclusions at which the thinkers of this orientation arrive. Professor Slipko is absolutely critical of the ideological basis of materialist philosophy, seeking in this reductionism attempts to bring the man-person to some dependent being, social being, strictly determined by the absolute bio-economic laws of nature. Slipko, in the name of Thomistic realism, perceives man as the basis of 'fundamental resolutions', and that is on the basis of ontology, anthropology as well as detailed personal ethics. Within social ethics, supported with Thomistic anthropology, he sums up his principal theses and assumptions with reference to the conception of man. It is not the unnecessary reminding of the facts already known, but rather realizing the close relationship between categories characterizing human being such as action, choice, purpose - which, in turn, determine the course of our personal life. And this, in turn, determines human being, nature and essence.

Author confronts the criteria of mental character of educational activities with building pedagogical theory, didactical roles and functions of a teacher in the context of importance of opportunities and threats in education.

An access to information is one of the preconditions for the functioning of a country of law and new democracy. The analysis described in the article focuses on the level of Bialystok's citizens interest in the contact with their representatives through the Internet. The topic brought by the author is new in case of Poland, since there is no reliable research on this issue neither concerning Bialystok nor any other Polish region. The author's pilot study seems to be indispensable introduction before basic research.

Constructivism is a perspective contending that individuals form or construct much of what they learn and understand. So it makes accepting the present structure of schooling difficult. From constructivist point of view, educators must invite students to experience the world's richness, ask their own questions and seek their own answers, to construct their own understandings of concepts rather then simply showing the effects of understanding. But from the other side, to do so is much more complicated than it seems to be. In this article the authoress attempts to analyze at the level of distinction between concept attainment and concept formation, teacher's practice during the lessons about human circulatory system. According to J. S. Bruner, concept attainment is the search for and testing of attributes that can be used to distinguish exemplars from nonexemplars of various categories, the search for good and valid anticipatory cues. The process of concept formation is the process of concept or category formation - the inventive act by which classes are constructed. The construction of new conceptual knowledge is identified with concept attainment/concept formation. Thinking of constructivist teacher and classroom our interests focus on the teacher's role in the process of education.

An imagine of the European educational integration is not only a question of diploma, European Credit Transfer System, loges and European study, European educational programmes and initiatives, but it is also a problem of culture identification, entouraging the difference or acceptance for a society. We can analyse each culture in different ways. It often means a confrontation with our own believes and thoughts. Sometimes it is difficult to accept the ways by the means of which the country is governed. However we should take into consideration the pact that although the multiplicity is a fundamental European merit and it carries danger, we should stay tolerant and even accept the multiplicity.

The question about the essence of theoretical pedagogical knowledge constitutes the keynote of the article. The author justifies that one of the fundamental elements of this knowledge is the knowledge of men and their growing up, but it is insufficient to describe and analyze the educational situation of contemporary man. According to the author, an important source of this knowledge is the knowledge of human culture in their local dimension with regard to tradition and civilization change as well as its diverse spheres.

One of alarming situation at present times is vanishing sense of a shame. It is caused mainly by mass media that create models of behaving that are wiping out from human consciousness patterns which were created by past generations. Almost every nation has its own pattern of a shame. Nowadays, a phenomenon of loosing any sense of a shame can be seen especially among young people. They wear more and more often clothes exposing intimate parts of human body. In front of such situation a question is asked about a nature and causes of the shame. Is the shame something right or something wrong? Is there any sense of a shame? An answer to this question should help in a process of bringing up young people. One of sources that could be helpful in looking for an answer is the Bible. According to biblical texts, especially Gen 1-3, a shame is a form of defense of man's dignity. Sense of a shame arises from the original sin. The essence of this sin is a will to decide about what is good and what is evil. Man can not decide about that, because only God as Creator of the whole universe can decide what is good and what is evil and forbidden to a man. In spite of that man broke down the God's commandments. The proper relations between people were destroyed, instead of love appeared a desire. The main aim of a shame is to keep proper relation between people based on love instead of desire. Because of that a sense of a shame is very important for a man and should be treated as one of a main point in education.

The article offers a comparative view on current curricula in the primary area developed within the whole range of educational reform in both England and Slovakia. If education reform is not viewed as an one-off isolated in time event then in England, the education of which has been regularly revised by the central government since the introduction of the National Curriculum in 1988, serves as an inspiring comparative case study. In addition to that, England is a country in which the responsibility for some aspects of education is traditionally delegated downwards as a result of which the system of education is marked by a high degree of decentralisation. Home education reform activities indicate their conformity with analogous reform initiatives within the European Union. But, if the reform rhetoric is limited to curricular contents update, the reform is doomed to fail in producing desired educational effects, since a syllabus is only a part of a curriculum as a structurally more complex mechanism. The article provides a systematic analysis and qualitative evaluation of the relevant curricular documents from both countries - from the perspective of coherence and ideological integrity of their components. The compared curricula differ in their respective theoretical and philosophical underpinnings and the stages of imple

Progress in establishing the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) is measured every two years. This article summarizes the 2007 stocktaking, which was based upon 12 quantifiable indicators and qualitative analysis of the national reports of the 45 participating countries. The findings of this stocktaking were cross-checked with those of EURYDICE, the European University Association (EUA) and the European National Student Association's (ESIB) surveys on the same period. The greatest progress was observed in the areas where structural changes were needed: the degree system, external quality assurance, introduction of the European Diploma Supplement and European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS). Areas yet to be developed are national qualifications frameworks, improving the quality of culture within higher education institutions, recognition practices of degree study credits in general and recognition of prior learning in particular. Most of the less developed areas need a change in culture and attitude, which is a more time-consuming process than making structural changes. Several of them are linked to introducing a learning outcomes-based approach and should therefore be dealt with in an integrated way.

Poprawa wszystkich aspektów jakości oświaty oraz zapewnienie jej doskonałości, tak aby umożliwić osiągnięcie uznanych i mierzalnych wyników w nauce, zwłaszcza w zakresie umiejętności czytania i pisania, liczenia i podstawowych czynności życiowych, należy do sześciu celów światowej inicjatywy Education for All (EFA).

Teacher training requires special consideration in any deliberation on education because no organized education can rise above the quality of its teachers. Consequently, among the purpose of teacher education in the National Policy on Education is to provide teachers with the intellectual and professional background adequate for their assignment. As it is declared in the NPE that lifelong education will be the basis of education policy and practice in Nigeria, the most effective way to achieve this intention is through life-long teacher education. In the country, regular full-time and in-service/sandwich programmes are offered. Much effort has been made in these programmes; however, there is need to make such training accessible for all teachers for quality education. In addition, governments, teacher education institutions and teachers' professional associations should join hands in teacher education so as to afford opportunities to teachers to constantly update their knowledge and skills through different innovative approaches.

Both using modern information technology in education and ensuring high quality of teaching belong to basic tools of the Bologna process realization. A rapid development of e-learning, observed in the recent decade, has been accompanied by a discussion on the quality and effectiveness of e-education and the ways of their evaluation. Providing high quality of teaching is also one of the European Union's priorities. Thus, it comes as a no surprise that the attempts of the creation of common frames for courses evaluation appeared in cooperation between higher education institutions and research centers at European level. The article introduces the tool for online courses evaluation which has been developed as a result of international cooperation within the project SEVAQ+.

It has been assumed that efficacy of acting in any domain is based on the giftedness, understood as the set of special abilities, intellectual characteristics, and personality traits. Hypothesis has been assumed that particular types of giftedness associated with other domains differ both in the sphere of intellect and personality. The subjects of the study were artistically gifted secondary school students (in the realm of music or the fine arts) and - as the comparative group - the artistically non-gifted ones. The profound specificity of the intellectual and personality components of the musical giftedness and the giftedness in the realm of the fine arts has been demonstrated by finding the variety of characteristics traits which distinguished one of the mentioned types of giftedness from the other. Although not as numerous as the specific characteristic traits, the common characteristic traits have also been found, which is in contradicion to the psychological specificity of the artistic giftedness in general.
