Article attempts to describe modern names of preschols. Nowadays, preschools are becoming similar to companies. The main purpose of their names is to encourage parents (and to some extent also children) to choose specific facility. Initially, this trend was associated with mainly non-public, private preschool, now also public preschools. This involves the development of consumption, characteristic of modern civilization. Creativity in the choice of name supports the presence of competition, and therefore described tendency can be noticed in large cities, such as Cracow. Material required for the analysis, that includes 334 names, was provided by the Internet databases that help parents in choosing a specific facility (abcprzedszkola.pl, przedszkolak.pl, przedszkolowo.pl), recruitment system for preschools FORMICO (krakow.formico.pl) and webpages of individual preschools.

The article is devoted to the names of passenger trains referring to the Black Sea in Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey, the USSR, Ukraine, Georgia and Russia. The author presents an onomastic and cultural analysis of the collected names of passenger connections. The conclusion is that a significant number of excerpted names meet the requirements of the rhetorical category of loci amoenus, and many names of international train connections allow them to be included in the group of loci communes.

The article presents an analysis of the names of sports clubs appearing in the top-level Polish football, volleyball, basketball and hockey leagues. A total of 107 names were analysed. The research question concerned the lexical composition of the names and potential differences in naming between individual sports. The research showed a tendency for names to become longer and for sponsors’ terms to be used in their composition. The exception is the names of football clubs, which are the most established and are a market brand in their own right.

This paper focuses on the names of cosmetic establishments whose names contain compound expressions made of nouns, indicating places, institutions, premises (e.g. galeria, akademia, klub – gallery, academy, club) or a certain space (e.g. kraina, strefa – land, zone) as well as terms which indicate the type of business (e.g. fryzjerski, kosmetyczny – hairdresser’s, beautician’s) or the type of rendered services (e.g. urody, fryzur, paznokci – beauty, hairstyling, nails etc.). At present, these names are enjoying great popularity. By taking into consideration connotations of the nouns, the author presents several groups of lexemes very frequently used in the names of beauty establishments.

This article presents proper names of Polish dietary supplements. The analysis demonstrates that the ways of nominalisation are based on onymisation and transonymisation, applied to different types of proper names. The presented classification is based on motivational models. The author attempts to answer the following questions: Who uses such names? Do those names carry any information?

The contribution deals with the transonymisation of proper names which is explored on Czech oikonyms exemplified in SYN2005 corpus. It proceeds from the current conception of transonymisation, extending it by a type of co-called “multiverbal transonymisation”, which is a frequent case in transonymisation of oikonyms to chrematonyms, e.g. Brno → Kometa Brno. It describes the factors influencing the process of transonymisation of oiko-nyms which can be divided into an non-language and language categories. Part of the contribution is dedicated to the morphological aspect of chrematonyms. The SYN2005 corpus material was used to describe development trends in the choice of endings in paradigms of chrematonyms created by transonymisation of oikonyms.

The article is related to my scientific research in the previous stages of studies, i.e. master’s studies in Slavic studies in the field of Croatian studies and bachelor’s studies in Slavic studies in the field of Bulgarian studies – with vocabulary related to water topics. This article aims to: determine how many dehydronym lexemes Черно море (The Black Sea) exist in Bulgaria, verify which objects are given such proper names and check whether it is possible to observe the dependence of the given names on geographical space, i.e. whether transonyms derived from the hydronym Черно морe occur most often near the reservoir itself or on the outskirts of Bulgaria. As I prove in the following considerations, the hydronym Черно море is quite a common and willingly used proper name. As a result of the transonymization process, dehydronymous names are used secondarily and are used to name hodonyms, ojkonyms or chrematonyms. Both in Bulgarian and Polish, water names are quite expansive and are often better and more widely known than their hydronymous prototypes.

Lusatia is a phenomenon in the history of Europe. For many centuries its inhabitants bravely struggled against the German element, preserving their identity. Such conduct has earned them our admiration. Does this admiration find reflection in the Polish language, for instance in the proper names used today? This article makes an attempt at answering this question. Special attention has been paid to the onyms including the words Łużyce/Lusatia, łużycki/Lusatian, Łużyczanin/Łużyczanka/male or female inhabitant of Lusatia, excerpted from the Internet with the use of Google browser. Their analysis shows which factors also played an important role in the formation of such names, i.e., sympathy and interest in the inhabitants of Lusatia – the people who have been cultivating their culture, language and customs for many years and who, because of their conduct, are worthy of our reflection.

The aim of this paper is to determine and analyse language mechanisms used in branding, i.e. creating marketing names in contemporary chrematonyms on the example of Polish company names. The object of the analysis are various establishment names. These include names of shops, salons and wholesale warehouses, as well as trade, craft and service industries of various sectors: construction, finance, catering, cosmetics, medical, automotive, tourism, etc. The research material was collected on the basis of the Directory of Companies for Wrocław "TuWroclaw.com". Taking into account the ways in which company names are created in Poland, it can be seen that these mechanisms represent a great openness to word formations and, as a result, a great openness to very diverse structures: 1) single- and multi-word structures, 2) structures composed of both native and (at present very fashionable) foreign elements, 3) structures motivated directly or indirectly, 4) completely illegible structures in terms of word formations and semantics. The analysis of company names which belong to the marketing language and are related to the intensive development of civilization in recent decades allows us to notice an increasingly visible tendency to economise with language.

This article is devoted to hotel names in Sunny Beach, a Bulgarian Black Sea resort. The article provides a review of the names and merely classifies the hotel names in the resort in question. Formal and semantic analyses have been carried out as essential for further research into Bulgarian brand names, including accommodation place names which I intend to pursue by means of a new research methodology.

Artykuł dotyczy nazw własnych w poezji Jana Kasprowicza, wyekscerpowanych z wybranych tomów jego poezji – Krzaku dzikiej róży, Księgi ubogich, Hymnów i wydanego pośmiertnie zbioru Mój świat. W analizach pominięte zostały ludowe antroponimy i górskie toponimy. Szczególną uwagę poświęcono natomiast dotychczas marginalizowanym relacjom zachodzącym pomiędzy onimami odnoszącymi się do sfery religijnej i do nazw produktów przemysłowych, a także ich wpływowi na interpretację spuścizny Kasprowicza.

This article is related to the notion of proper names in the poetry of Jan Kasprowicz, selected from his volumes of poetry – Krzak dzikiej róży, Księga ubogich, Hymny and Mój świat, a collection of poems which was published posthumously. The article does not encompass folk anthroponyms and toponyms related to the Polish mountains. Particular attention has been paid to the connections, so far marginalized, between the onyms related to the religious and commercial spheres as well as their influence on the interpretation of Kasprowicz’s works.

W obrębie poszczególnych kategorii rozróżniono liczne podkategorie, np. wśród nazw przedsięwzięć kulturowych występują w dziele M. Wańkowicza m.in.: tytuły książek, czasopism, artykułów w czasopismach, tytuły felietonów samego autora. Z kolei w nazwach różnych rodzajów instytucji wymienia się m.in.: nazwy instytucji związanych z kulturą, instytucji finansowych. W nazwach organizacji, towarzystw wyróżniono przykładowo: organizacje rolnicze, wojskowe, pomocowe i wiele innych.

The article deals with chrematonyms in reports by Melchior Wańkowicz from the Anoda i katoda collection. The aim of the study is to present the diversity of this onymic category. The excerpted chrematonyms were assigned to five categories: names of cultural enterprises, names of institutions, names of companies, names of vehicles and names of products. Numerous subcategories were identified within each category, e.g. the names of cultural enterprises in Wańkowicz’s texts include titles of books, periodicals, articles in periodicals and titles of Wańkowicz’s feuilletons. Furthermore, the names of institutions include names of cultural institutions and financial institutions. The names of organisations and associations include: agricultural, military, aid organisations and others. Some attention was also devoted to a transition category between toponymy and chrematonymy, i.e. names of buildings and names of orders – phalaronyms. The set of cultural enterprises is the largest, with book titles dominating. Moreover, the aim of the study is also to demonstrate the function of chrematonyms in the texts under analysis. The chrematonyms in the Anoda i katoda collection typically perform three basic functions: the function of spatial location, the sociological function and the informational function.

The article explores the thematization of proper names (anthroponyms, chrematonyms and toponyms, includings street names) in Czech travelogues describing Soviet Russia (and later the Soviet Union). The material for the study comprised 40 travelogues published in book form and relating to the period 1917–1956. The aim of the article is to demonstrate how proper names function in this type of travelogue as a means of reflecting and promoting Soviet society, its values and ideology. The article also explores how proper names – particularly name changes in response to historical developments – were presented and commented on by the authors of pre- and post- World War II travelogues. Predominantly up to 1945, naming practices under the Bolshevik regime (name changes, new personal and geographical names, the practice of giving ‘revolutionary’ names to children) were viewed as part of the creation of a new Soviet reality and a new society, and the authors emphasized the ideological value and propaganda function of proper names.
