Non-governmental organizations provide a mature form for non-formal movement organizations and intervene in different ways in politics and political parties activities. In the political communication studies they should be treated as civic participation platforms that give possibility to expand the practice of dialogue and public debate as well as partners representing civic society in relation with political actors. The aim of this chapter is to characterize and analyze the scope of mediatization of non-governmental organizations participating in political communication processes in Poland.
The treaty on 'good neighbors and friendly cooperation' was a stepping stone on the road to normalization of Polish-German relations and its ratification was preceded by numerous efforts and actions on the part of enlightened politicians, Church hierarchs and representatives of the academia. For the NGOs, however, less prominent matters, especially the establishment of institutions which were meant to support Polish-German contacts, were of greater practical importance. The two major such institutions are the Foundation for Polish-German Cooperation and the Polish-German Youth Exchange. By supporting joint Polish-German projects in both countries they significantly influenced the development of Polish-German relations. In the first decade of their activity, due to large disproportion in the financial possibilities of the two partners, support of the Congresses of Polish-German and German-Polish Societies by the Foundation for Polish-German Cooperation enabled the Polish side to participate on equal terms in events that could be described as an intermediate form between a social gathering, a meeting of citizens engaged in a common enterprise and workshops that created ample opportunity to cope with new challenges in Polish-German relations. The Poznan organization availed itself of all the received invitations and often even requested additional cards of participation. In the second decade, the congress meetings were abandoned, so the Foundation started to offer greater support to Polish-German projects created by NGOs, local governments, schools and cultural institutions. Implementation of the provisions of the treaty proved advantageous for the Polish-German Society in Poznan in terms of the support it obtained for its own projects organized alternately in Wielkopolska and the federal states of the FRG together with the German-Polish Societies, especially those from Lower Saxony. Such projects helped their participants to learn about the culture, traditions and prospects of development of the partner nation and triggered new Polish-German contacts on a personal and organizational level, which also contributed to the development of exchange between Polish and German schools. Through this area of activity, presented by the regional mass media, the Polish-German Society in Poznan positively influenced the Polish-German relations in the region.

People considered to be cultural animators represent very diverse professions and social groups. They may have different approaches to culture, but usually their aim is similar – i.e. to prompt and inspire people to be culturally active. Publicly funded cultural animation projects often are not available to members of all social classes or are too focused on so-called “propagating the culture”. However, there are a number of projects, organisations and cultural animators, who operate outside the system, creating a space where people can participate in culture and work together.

Providing quality in the context of community arts is a complex issue, demanding constant analysis and evaluation of the artist’s actions. Equal focus should be put on the process of workshops and the end product, and although there are usually many obstacles encountered by community artist, the most important are defining and realizing internal aims by everyone engaged in the community arts (artist, workshop’s participants, recipients and many others).
Teoretyczny i aplikacyjny charakter pracy skutkował wykorzystaniem metod: indukcji i dedukcji, analizy aktów prawnych i raportów oraz dydaktycznego i praktycznego doświadczenia autora. Przeprowadzone rozważania pozwoliły na sformułowanie wniosku, iż realizowane obowiązkowe raportowanie odznacza się niską efektywnością, co stanowi główną przesłankę fakultatywnego wykorzystania budżetowania projektów, którego istota i forma koresponduje z podstawowymi atrybutami fundacji.
Global Citizenship Education at university has been developed in Spain with the continued support of the Official Development Assistance and collaboration of Non-Gobvernment Organizations. In recent years, this assistance is suffering a drastic decrease in funding. Due to this situation, Spanish nonprofits and the University must enhance their collaboration in order to make a better use of the resources available. This article details a method for determining the collaboration factors in activities of Global Citizenship Education at university through the prioritization of experts’ preferences of collaboration. For this, it uses a quantitative technique called the Analytical Hierarchy Process on a sample of Global Citizenship Education professionals all over Spain. The results provide criteria that may help to establish a most suitable and collaborative action plan for Global Citizenship Education in the university space in the new changing reality.

The article in the layer of its objectives deals with the activity of non-governmental organizations (NGO) in participatory procedures in the revitalization of urban centers, in particular in selected cities of the GZM Metropolis (Poland, Silesian voivodeship). The region of upper Silesia and the GZM metropolis is an area particularly affected by the stigma specific to post-industrial cities. It struggles not only with the problem of the urgent need for architectural revitalization, but also with social revitalization. There is no doubt, that flexibility and adaptation to new challenges posed by modern society is conditioned not only by the legal solutions themselves, but also by stimulating the social tissue to take measures to remedy further degradation. Human capital in connection with the concept of New Public Management seems to be an adequate solution. Non-governmental organizations, in the context of participation in revitalization, are analyzed from the consultant, contractor, beneficiary, as well as the group influencing the shape of revitalization projects point of view. The article characterizes categories relating to revitalization, defines the importance of non-governmental organizations in contemporary policies and programs defining development (including in territorial terms), also includes a preliminary empirical study to identify the actual role, that selected cities of GZM entrust to non-governmental organizations in revitalization processes. Methodically, the article was based on the tools of secondary data analysis (desk research), statistical analysis, questionnaire method conducted with the technique of individual direct interview (IDI).

The article presents a study of the dual nature of state funding for non-governmental organizations in Russia during the period 2006–2021. Based on statistical data analysis, expert interviews, and surveys conducted among NGO managers, it demonstrates how state funding simultaneously generates formal and informal institutional constraints, leading to organizational isomorphism and limited autonomy. On the other hand, it creates new opportunities for NGO development within state-approved formats of activity. In response to this duality, NGOs develop various adaptive strategies: from conformism to balancing between different resource sources. The research findings confirm the hypothesis about the transformation of Russian NGOs from independent civil society actors into integrated partners of the state in implementing social policy. The study contributes to the development of resource dependence theory and the concept of “managed civil society” in the context of hybrid political regimes.

The demographic and managerial circumstances allow one to expect that Polish organisations, both business and nonprofit, will be facing organisational succession in the near future. The independent Polish state will be witnessing these processes for the first time since over 200 years. The presented paper addresses a research gap referring to succession in Polish nonprofit organisations. The design of the study was based on the theory and experience gained from family business literature and research. The aim of the study was to describe and analyse formal succession solutions included in the statutes of Polish foundations and to put the results into perspective, building on a theoretical family business background. The study was based on a qualitative analysis of documents from ten purposefully selected foundations operating in Poland. The study indicates that the documents of the analyzed foundations contained no formal solutions regarding succession. Other records referring to power transfer concerned emergency situations. The findings were correlated with the demographic and managerial circumstances facing the foundations. Possible directions for future research were indicated.
