The article presents psychological problems of adaptation concerning spatial movements and migrations from the perspective of attitude, personality trait and developmental characteristic of the individual. There is assumed that in the new civilizational context individuals develop new forms of adaptations, which focusing in a specific developmental life-span period named 'emerging adulthood'. It is characterized by functional indecisiveness as well as unique openness toward new life experiences. In the article are discussed some empirical data due to locus of causality of psychological openness among young Poles, as well as characteristic proactive behaviors undertaken by them during the process of overcoming developmental indecisiveness.

Emerging adulthood is a phenomenon constituting the correlate of post-modernity and changes on the labour market, which affect particularly a young generation. It is a new phase in life, including the age of 18 to 25-30, the essence of which is experimenting with roles in life – in regard of family, love, work and changeability of worldview. The article constitutes an exemplification of threats which are caused by emerging adulthood to the development of the identity of a young generation. In the theoretical part of it, the article includes the characteristics of the phenomenon, and an attempt to indicate the factors which determine them. In the empirical part, it refers to developmental disorders of the identity, which are very characteristic for this phase of human life.

Emerging adulthood is a period in which intimate partner relationships are explored. Based on our pilot study, this research maps the experience of intimate relationships in emerging adulthood using a representative sample of Slovakia. In addition to a factor analysis (as in the pilot study) to identify categories of attributes of intimate relationships, we also performed a complementary "Q" analytical procedure - identifying latent classes of participants. We revealed 4 classes of participants with a special "group subjectivity" related to similar experience in intimate relationships. In addition to mapping intimate relationships in Slovakia, the study also has an epistemological contribution to sociology in that it makes visible the significant relationships of members of a particular latent class to other predictors/variables and thereby better understands "membership" in individual latent classes.

The main aim of this article is to provide a partial overview of the current research in developmental psychology and the research into emerging adulthood in particular. It is considered essential to look at this area of psychological research as there is little understanding about this life period in Slovakia. Interest in this issue is growing only slowly, as evidenced by the current interdisciplinary project (APVV-18-0303, Nozdrovická, 2019) and several studies on this topic from the perspective of other disciplines (Džambazovič, 2018; Roupa, 2016). The lack of research on emerging adulthood persists in Slovakia despite Arnett (2000) having already brought this concept to light in developmental psychology. Arnett (2000, 2004) explains that the dominant life course theory is no longer applicable due to significant demographic shifts, including the delay of marriage and parenthood. In order to measure proposed features of emerging adulthood as well as one additional dimension called “other-focus”, the Inventory of the Dimensions of Emerging Adulthood (IDEA) has been designed (Reifman, Arnett, & Colwell, 2007). There are more than ten language versions of the IDEA. In this article, a summary will be provided of all adaptations of the IDEA, some of which have been well-validated with conducted factor analysis. The use of this inventory enables a better understanding of experiencing emerging adulthood. It also allows perceptions of emerging adults to be contrasted between various countries and cultures.

Personality seems to be a stable predictor of satisfaction with life and meaning in life. The effects of emerging adulthood are currently under-explored. The aim of the present study is to explore whether the characteristics of emerging adulthood explain additional variance in satisfaction with life and meaning in life that is not explained by the Big Five factors. The sample involved 244 Slovak university students (13.1% men), who completed the Satisfaction with Life Scale, Meaning in Life Questionnaire, Big Five Inventory-2 and the Questionnaire of Emerging Adulthood characteristics. The results of linear hierarchical regression analyses, controlling for age and gender, showed that emerging adulthood characteristics added 6.4% of the explained variance in satisfaction with life, 28.1% of the explained variance in presence of meaning and 17.1% of the explained variance in search for meaning. The current study shows that the emerging adulthood characteristics are important for satisfaction with life and meaning in life.

The present study examines the reliability and validity of the Turkish version of the Lifespan Sibling Relationship Scale (LSRS; Riggio, 2000). A total of 578 (336 female, 242 male) Turkish emerging adults participated in this study. A Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was used to test construct validity for the original six-factor model of the scale with 48 items. Results of the CFA indicated a good model fit. Furthermore, the second-order CFA result showed that the scale can be scored for both the sub-dimensions and the test as a whole. Multi-group CFA result revealed that the measured construct is invariant across the genders. The results suggested that the Turkish version of the LSRS had adequate internal consistency and construct validity, indicating that it can be reliably used to measure attitudes toward sibling relationship in emerging adulthood among a Turkish population.

The associations between parent-daughter relationship characteristics and disordered eating behaviours among emerging adult women from the Czech Republic were examined. Participants (N = 798 women, M = 22.25 years old, SD = 1.42) reported on disordered eating behaviours (dieting and unhealthy weight-control behaviours; UWCB), their relationship characteristics with each parent (trust, communication, alienation and psychological control) and covariates (weight, height, frequency of communication with parents, living status and parental statuses). Overall, 41% of women were on a diet, and 33% engaged in at least one UWCB. Logistic regression analyses revealed that none of the parent-daughter relationship characteristics had any association with dieting. However, a low quality of mother-daughter relationship (low trust, high alienation and psychological control) had a significant association with UWCB. None of the father-daughter relationship characteristics had a significant association with UWCB. The results suggest that preventive interventions with the family should emphasize the quality of the mother-daughter relationship.

The previous scientific considerations have focused on the fact that international mobility of youth plays a significant role in the process of becoming adult (see Eade et al. 2006, Crivello 2011, Punch 2015, King 2017), as well as affects the further stages of transition from education to work and adulthood (see Sarnowska 2016). The aim of this article is to explain the importance of socialization in the family for migration trajectories of Polish young adults. To illustrate various migration strategies, the concept of broad and narrow socialization of Jeffrey J. Arnett (1995a) will be used. It was assumed that Arnett’s concept is based on a particular dimension with two poles. Depending on a source of socialization, individuals experience broad or narrow socialization conditions as well as broad or narrow socialization influences. Particular attention will be given to parents as socializing agents. The analysis of the empirical material will be based on the qualitative longitudinal study with 14 people aged 25–34 with a university degree, who took one of the first works in life abroad. The second wave of the study had been conducted after one year to two years after the first one.
