In the contemporary society, technical media provide contact among people, which are mainly of interface-to-interface character, instead of personal face-to-face contacts. Especially young people use modern communication technologies willingly because they constitute their natural environments and inseparable elements of their everyday life. As a result, new social phenomena appear, which include: phubbing, phonoholism and other pathological forms of communication. Modern forms of communication are inseparable part of our life, they enable fast communication even with people in other parts of the world and communication with several people at the same time. However, modern communication technologies can lead to e-addictions and dysfunctions of social contacts
Several psychological factors are strongly related to aggressive behaviours in university students, such as educational issues and problematic digital activity, namely Smartphone and social media addiction. At the same time, little is known about the role of student burnout syndrome in predicting these mental and social problems. Moreover, although most researchers agree with the notion of sex differences in aggression, excessive digital activity , and burnout syndrome, only a few studies have examined the role of cultural differences. Thus, the present study sought to examine whether digital technology addictions mediate the relationship between student burnout and aggressive behaviours in European and Japanese university students. For this purpose, a cross-sectional, non-experimental and online study was developed with 291 participants (202 females, M = 22.66; SD = 4.35). The findings highlighted how academic burnout and phone snubbing increase, and problematic Facebook usedecrease the risk of aggressive behaviours. In addition, phone snubbing (known as phubbing) mediates the association between student burnout and aggression. Men tend to have more aggressive behaviours than women, and Japanese students were less addicted to FB and less aggressive as well as scoring higher in phubbing than European students. In conclusion, the results confirmed the importance of including cross-cultural differences in digital technology health programs in order to minimise the risk of aggressive behaviours.
Past studies indicate that a number of environmental and psychological factors positively predict the perpetration of cyber-aggression. The main purpose of the present study was to investigate the moderation mediating effect of problematic cyber-activities (FB addiction, phubbing) and culture (Japanese vs. West European) on the association between student burnout and cyber-aggression behaviours among the university student population. In the current studies 171 West European (83% Females, age M = 23.16, SD = 5.46) and 120 Japanese (50% Females, age M = 21.95, SD = 1.62) students. The highest levels of academic dissatisfaction, phubbing, and cyber–aggression in FB-addicted students were found. The phubbing mediated the association between student burnout and cyber-aggression behaviours, but the results for FB addiction in simple mediation analysis were insignificant. Furthermore, FB addiction and culture were significant moderators of phubbing and cyber-aggression behaviours.
The subject of this article is the phenomenon of phubbing – a new social behavior resulting from the widespread use of modern technologies and online media in everyday life. In the author’s opinion, this phenomenon is an extremely useful exemplification of the consequences of the development of modern mass media technologies and their impact on society, referred in the literature as mediatization. The aim of the text is to collect and present knowledge about phubbing based on a query of sources from various disciplines of social sciences. The phenomenon is interdisciplinary in nature and attracts the attention of psychologists, sociologists, political scientists, communication researchers and representatives of other fields. The article answers research questions about the definition of phubbing, its types, causes and consequences of this phenomenon – in the social context and taking into account the sphere of political communication. The text is also an attempt to place phubbing in a broader context of changes caused by the mediatization of social life, which, in the face of the development and popularization of online media, plays an increasingly important role in political communication.

Przedmiotem analizy podjętej w tekście jest zjawisko phubbingu – nowy fenomen behawioralny wynikający z powszechności wykorzystywania nowoczesnych technologii i mediów online w codziennym życiu.
This article addresses the paradox of contemporary communication: despite being permanently connected to the internet and belonging to an “always-on” culture, individuals experience a growing sense of loneliness, isolation, and fragmented relationships. The main goal of the text is to answer the question of why, in a world dominated by digital media and dating platforms, it is so difficult to build lasting intimacy and how the presence of technology affects the quality of love and interpersonal relationships. The article defines and operationalizes key media science categories: digital hygiene, “alone together”, phubbing, and FOMO (fear of missing out). The research method used is a critical analysis of the literature and a synthesis of the results of contemporary empirical research in the fields of media studies, sociology, and psychology. The author draws on research on problematic internet use (PIU) and phonoholism, and analyzes specific relational phenomena, such as the effect of the mere presence of a device or the practice of sharing. One of the final conclusions is that the foundation of protection against e-addiction is the quality of offline bonds. A harmonious family climate and strong social support act as a “protective shield”, reducing the need to compensate for emotional deficiencies online. Another conclusion concerns “shared mindfulness” as a key to building closeness, an act of love expressed through attention paid to another person.

W artykule podjęto problem paradoksu współczesnej komunikacji: mimo permanentnego podłączenia do sieci i przynależności do kultury „always on”, jednostki doświadczają narastającego poczucia osamotnienia, izolacji oraz fragmentaryzacji relacji. W artykule ma miejsce zdefiniowane i zoperacjonalizowane kluczowych kategorii medioznawczych: higiena cyfrowa, „alone together”, phubbing, FOMO (fear of missing out).
