Digital technological platforms that facilitate the provision of many services are a relatively new development in the economy, especially in the labour market. As they are becoming increasingly prevalent, the characteristics of this business model are gradually revealed. The model creates many novel ways to make goods available and generate income, but it also translates into a new quality of work. In the discussion of the labour market segment operating based on technological platforms, the world literature tends to employ the concepts of the gig economy and cybertariat, which are unequivocally negative in their connotations. The paper discusses the relationship between technological innovations and work. It aims to determine the characteristics of work carried out through digital technological platforms in the crosssection of the major dimensions of quality work. The paper presents the verification of the research hypothesis assuming that the business model adopted by digital technological platforms threatens the standards of quality work. The analysis uses the methodology designed by the author and employs the criteria developed by the European Anti-Poverty Network, constituting the quintessence of the contemporary approach to the issue in the European Union. Its main conclusion is that the gig economy segment is highly heterogeneous, which makes it difficult to assess and discuss the problems arising in this segment and their solutions. In consequence, it requires a clarification through adequate classifications and identification of problem groups. However, the research results reveal that a significant part of the gig economy generates very low quality work

Tworzy on wiele nieznanych wcześniej możliwości dostępu do dóbr i osiągania dochodów, ale kształtuje też nową jakość pracy.
The emergence of the current forms of functioning of the economy has been conditioned mainly by factors such as technical, technological and informational innovations, but also by a change in the perception of values in society (e.g. attitudes towards the environment). One of the new (current) economic forms already implemented is the sharing/collaborative economy. The paper aims at identifying the meaning of the content of the term sharing/collaborative economy as well as the positives and negatives of the sharing/collaborative economy model in the current hyper-competitive globalisation environment (e.g. risks for standard economic sectors such as transport, accommodation and food services). The paper also includes a partial prediction of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the functioning of the sharing/collaborative economy.

Digital transformation, the rise of the gig economy and crowdsourcing significantly impact modern human resource management. Organizations must adapt their recruitment strategies, incentive systems, and virtual team management approaches to new work realities. The gig economy promotes flexible employment models that replace traditional long-term collaboration structures. Crowdsourcing has become a tool for knowledge acquisition and problem-solving in a distributed work model. Companies use recruitment and recommendation platforms to select candidates and engage communities in innovative projects. Modern technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI) and big data, play a crucial role in optimizing HR processes. AI supports candidate and employee data analysis, accelerates recruitment, and automates onboarding processes. In conclusion, the dynamic changes in the work environment require flexible HR strategies adapted to digital reality. Companies that effectively implement new employment models and leverage technology in workforce management can gain a competitive advantage in the market.

Transformacja cyfrowa, rozwój gig economy i crowdsourcingu znacząco wpływają na współczesne zarządzanie zasobami ludzkimi. Organizacje muszą dostosować swoje strategie rekrutacyjne, systemy motywacyjne i sposoby zarządzania zespołami wirtualnymi do nowych realiów pracy. Gig economy promuje elastyczne formy zatrudnienia, które zastępują tradycyjne modele długoterminowej współpracy. Crowdsourcing staje się narzędziem pozyskiwania wiedzy i rozwiązywania problemów w modelu współpracy rozproszonej. Firmy wykorzystują platformy rekrutacyjne i rekomendacyjne do selekcji kandydatów oraz angażowania społeczności w innowacyjne projekty. Nowoczesne technologie, takie jak sztuczna inteligencja (AI) i big data, odgrywają kluczową rolę w optymalizacji procesów HR. AI wspiera analizę danych kandydatów i pracowników, przyspiesza rekrutację i automatyzuje procesy onboardingowe. Podsumowując, dynamiczne zmiany w środowisku pracy wymagają elastycznych strategii HR, dostosowanych do cyfrowej rzeczywistości.
Aby uporządkować odpowiednio wyselekcjonowane materiały, zastosowana została klasyfikacja pięciu obszarów warunków pracy i zatrudnienia, charakterystyczna dla pracy platformowej (bezpieczeństwo zatrudnienia, dochody, czas pracy, zabezpieczenie społeczne i reprezentacja pracownicza).

Introduction: For several years now, academic literature has demonstrated a steadfast interest in the intricate issues surrounding the evolving gig economy and the influence of algorithmic management on (atypical) working conditions, employment, and industrial relations. Therefore, the growing number of empirical studies on this topic needs to be organised and summarised, and knowledge gaps need to be identified. Aim: This article aims to conduct a systematic review of the literature to answer the question of what researchers have discovered thus far regarding the working and employment conditions of migrant platform workers in European Union countries. Materials and methods: This article is based on an analysis of 45 peer-reviewed research articles, indexed in the Scopus database, published as of June 2025. To organise the collected material, we employed a typology of five domains of working and employment conditions in platform work (job security, income, working time, social security and representation). Results: The empirical evidence gathered clearly shows that migrant platform workers experience extremely precarious employment and working conditions. Despite the myths surrounding flexibility, entrepreneurship, and high earnings, workers in this sector face discrimination, long hours, piecework pay and widespread job insecurity. However, the literature pays little attention to issues related to workers» social security, especially the way in which they navigate the social security system and their strategies for avoiding accidents at work. A review of the literature has identified an emerging trend in research on the growing agency of foreign migrant workers, exemplified by individual and collective strategies of resistance to algorithmic management and other practices used in the gig economy.
Platforms such as Uber, Bolt, Wolt, or Glovo, are often depicted as villains – the employers disguised as intermediaries who aim to exploit their workers. Even when researchers admit that platform workers often view platform work positively, they interpret these views as study participants’ failure to recognize their objective interests. The article presents a mixed-method study conducted among migrant and non-migrant couriers and drivers working with platforms in Poland. Not assuming platforms’ negative impact, we focus on employment flexibility and availability, and how these translate into platform work’s role as: 1) labor market entry points, 2) work of last resort, 3) precarious employment, and 4) opportunity for transitory or flexible income. We find that workers’ migratory status is crucial to their experience of platform work. However, it appears that platform workers’ situation is less about the platforms themselves and more about the broader legal and economic environment that offers few alternatives to platform work.
This article explores the possibility of replacing the traditional administrative supervision over the gig industry in favour of regulatory instruments rooted in economy. While regulation in this sense is not uncommon in the Enlish-speaking countries, even outside infrastructural sectors, in continental Europe, administrative supervision of business still prevails. The current approach of states, including administration, legislative authorities and courts, towards the gig economy can be attributed to the misconception expressed in the EU and national court decisions presuming that companies such as Uber, offering an electronic platform, form one entity with thousands of businesses performing services such as Uber drivers. This paper asserts that regulatory authorities with their powers of correcting the anomalies of the market, are better suited for platform-based services. States should use their powers to liberalise doing business, rather than restrict new, inventive forms of business to the detriment of the customers.
The issue of algorithmic management is constituted by an array of conditions, socio-cultural and economic ones seeming to be the most important today. This article explores selected aspects and phenomena related to creativity, innovation and labor in the age of digital technologies and the domination of algorithms. The key problem in this case is the digitalization of labor, a phenomenon which also affects the creative processes and innovation. The notion of creativity shifts today towards a specific model of labor, based on and conditioned by the use of digital tools and often managed by machines, i.e. algorithms. Algorithmic labor is considered here as a social and cultural problem. The text investigates selected effects of these tendencies and highlights the important emerging issues, like the culture of incompetence for example. The outcome of this research might be used not just to improve the digital solutions in that regard, but rather to recompose the significant ideas that constitute the reflection on human agency in general.

Purpose – to compile a list of external incentives that motivate gig workers, and identify incentives suitable for gig work. Methods – an empirical literature review investigating external incentives and their effect on gig worker motivation on digital platforms.Findings – despite the diversity among gig workers, well-known and recognised motivation concepts, and incentives remain applicable today.Digital platforms, designed to function as intermediaries between giggers and end-users, have assumed a significant part of the HRM role and transformed the paradigm of incentive in gig work. The application of external incentives in gig work depends on the digital platform’s design, rules of operation, and functioning.Originality – this study provides a list of external incentives motivating gig workers, based on an in-depth investigation of the applicability of both traditional and contemporary ideas and methods of motivation in the gig economy.Research limitations – the study focuses on external incentives and is limited to online gig work.Implications – the results indicate significant shifts in social and workplace relationships, suggesting that management in the gig economy, and more broadly, in the labour and education sectors, needs reforms.
The author presents the verdict of the Supreme Court of Great Britain, recognizing Uber drivers as employees in the light of current laws. The subject of consideration is also the influence of the British judgment on legal and factual relations based on digital platforms in Poland, particularly in relation to Uber drivers. The author analyses the scope of protection to which persons employed on a basis other than employment contract are entitled and points out the necessity to adapt the existing regulations to the requirements of the labour market.
Celem rozważań zawartych w artykule rozważań jest przedstawienie opisanego konfliktu prawa konkurencji i prawa pracy w kontekście pierwotnych założeń systemowych obydwu wymienionych wyżej gałęzi prawa.

This paper deals with the concept of the sharing economy, which has been extended to a lot of different areas, increasing its influence on our lives in recent years. New forms of business models have enabled greater demand by providing easier access to the use of products and services, and at the same time opened the potential to higher supply and created possibility to share unused assets to more providers. The term “sharing economy” covers a broad universe of products and services encompassing different motives for sharing. The presented paper divides sharing economy platforms based on their contribution towards environmental sustainability. This distinction between different forms of sharing economy platforms is important as sustainable aspect of the sharing economy is often advertised. The existing research conducted in this field is insufficient and calls for further attention.
The work platform is growing unusually fast due to the necessity to desire to reduce manpower cost and urgency on short termsresults. As far as the legal statutes of work platform is concerned a lot of issues remain unsolved. Certain number of people who work for the gigeconomy has not started for the reason of necessity. Therefore, at the present time there is a lack of clarity concerning platform workers’ legalstatus, their wages and rating mechanism. Almost none of the EU Member State has regulations specifying the employment status of platformworkers. The Frankfurt Declaration of 2016 on platform-based work is in favour to ensure that workers on any platform who work under theauthority of platform ought to be classified as employees.

Deklaracja podjęta w 2016 r. z inicjatywy central związkowych zmierza do uznania za pracownikówtych zatrudnionych, którzy wykonują w ramach platformy pracę podporządkowaną.
Article is a detailed study on the UK Supreme Court judgment in the most debated platform economy misclassification case in recent years. The elaboration on the judgment seemed necessary for two main reasons. Firstly, it is a kind of culmination of a certain platform saga. Secondly, the judgment provides valuable technical guidance for any labour court (regardless of jurisdiction) faced with the task of determining the existence of an employment relationship between a platform and a user who provides the work (service) within platform.

JEL: J53, J62, M54

The article addresses the situation of an employee functioning in the labour market in the conditions of digitisation, leading, amongst other, to the rise of a gig, platform and sharing economy. The employee is presented as an individual actively choosing from among new opportunities to create cooperation with the employer in terms of employment form and manner, duration and rules of work performance. The purpose of the described research was to check whether the employee who spots that the employer is undertaking actions that bespeak a transactional psychological contract and is therefore ready to change the employer activates Employability Market Orientation. In line with the adopted assumption, this attitude allows the employee to behave like a workpreneur and take full advantage of the opportunities offered in today’s labour market. The research has shown that in the sample examined, employees’ decision to change employers is not correlated with Employability Market Orientation. Many of them still decide to change employers due to low pay and low job security, which stems from the lack of a long-term contract. This may result from a passive attitude and a focus on seeking such a relation with the employer that is based on a relational psychological contract. This means that employees now find it difficult to seize new opportunities offered by modern technologies in the world of work. People who demonstrate cognitive flexibility are best predisposed to this. JEL: J53, J62, M54

The aim of this paper is to analyse a new form of employment which has appeared in the Polish labour market in recent years, i.e. work via digital platforms. The author discusses the issue of platform work in the context of its impact on the current labour market. Particular attention is paid to the identification of threats connected with this new form of employment, the demands of the European and Polish trade unions put forward in relation to platform workers and the regulations planned in this field at the EU level. The author also shares his reflections on the practices applied by the owners of digital platforms and the effective method of their control by Member States.
In this paper, the author focuses her attention on the situation of workers in the on-demand economy. Firstly, she deals with problems of terminological nature. Secondly, she presents the justification for protection for some categories of workers. Thirdly, the analysis of the status of on-demand workers is conducted from different points of view: proposal to introduce the intermediate category between employee and independent contractor, proposal to introduce an employment relationship as the default classification, a functional concept of the employer, the judgment of Employment Tribunal (London) in Aslam and Farrar and others, and A European agenda for the collaborative economy. Finally, the author considers the usefulness (in the on-demand economy) of some of the instruments introduced by the General Data Protection Regulation of 27 April 2016.
