The article entitled “On interpretation” is an attempt to formulate a viewpoint on the issue of textual interpretation. It presents different ideas related to interpretation, including especially those that are concerned with a text’s meaning and with the way in which it is interpreted by the reader. The author proposes another interpretation method which he calls transactional. The primary concern is how to possibly justify the fundamental character of interpretation and interpretative activity while at the same time preserving and respecting the relative autonomy of an interpreted text.
The author of the review discusses the thesis presented in Philippe Cabestan’s book L’être et la conscience. The work of the French philosopher can be regarded as an analysis and elaboration of the early philosophical assumptions of Jean-Paul Sartre oscillating around the concept of consciousness. Cabestan shows how Sartre’s critical approach to phenomenology influenced the shape of his ontology, presented primarily in the book Being and Nothingness

At the end of the 19th century, two monographs on empirical psychology were published: W. Wundt’s Grundzüge der physiologischen Psychologie and F. Brentano’s Psychologie vom empirischen Standpunkt. They set different research standards, indicating a differently defined subject as well as the methodology of the new science. The psychology of the 20th and 21st centuries focused mainly on Wundt’s program, while Brentano’s program was included in philosophical analyses. However, this led to significant changes in psychology, which today can be seen as deep reductionism, narrowing the subject matter, and difficulties in constructing theories. In the article, I suggest that it might be helpful to recall the basic assumptions of Brentano’s psychology and the schools derived from it, such as e.g. the Lvov‑Warsaw School. Therefore, the article aims to indicate the theoretical space that has been emerging for some time, in which the school of Kazimierz Twardowski could present original philosophical and psychological achievements.
In this essay we will try to undercover some aspects of freedom and free will of person, which are hidden in the philosophy of St. Augustine of Hippo. As we know, this great philosopher, early Christian theologian, has influenced European Philosophy very much, and a lot of his apposite thesis are present in philosophy even today. Using the phenomenological method of Max Scheler, Karol Wojtyła, and Jean-Luc Marion we will try to present some aspects, discovered and described by Saint Augustin of Hippo, which are necessary for such ideas like subjective Ego.

The first part of the paper presents the transhumanistic philosophy as a result of unsolved problems of cognitive science. The second part of the paper considers the issue of whether current social and behavioral sciences are in a position to cope with the challenges, which are placed before them by the development of current electronic technology. The theory of intentionality (Franz Brentano, John Searle) together with the theory of human actions and products (Kazimierz Twardowski – Lvov-Warsaw School) provide the conceptual framework of the undertaken analysis.
“Experimental Theatre of the 1960’s – Challenges of the Perfor-mance: Performativity and Intentionality – Kennedy and Baraka” explores the nature of the borderline experience of interpreting a drama in the process of stage production. The text discusses two aspects, namely the intention of the playwright as reflected in the play script and the intention of the director manifested in the theatre performance. This borderline experience, albeit foreign to other literary genres, has been inherently inscribed into every play known in history. The playwright’s intention embodied in the script is evaluated and subsequently trans¬formed by the director. The level of transformation, though, depends on the nature of stage directions. In order to explain the mechanism which underlies the differentiated levels of produc¬tion-based transformation, the paper refers to Richard Court¬ney’s idea of a play as a skeletal literary form, as well as to Beards¬ley’s, Ingarden’s and Stanislavski’s theories of intentional author/playwright. There are two in-depth case studies, of Adrienne Kennedy’s Funnyhouse of a Negro and Amiri Baraka’s Slave Ship, which exemplify the theory that the directors may in fact be restricted in their freedom of script interpretation. The paper provides an insight into the mode of playwright’s intentional seizing the control of stage production with the facilitated stage directions.

“Experimental Theatre of the 1960’s – Challenges of the Performance: Performativity and Intentionality – Kennedy and Baraka” opisuje kwestię doświadczenia granicznego, jakim jest interpretacja tekstu dramatycznego w procesie produkcji scenicznej.
The subject of the paper is the notion of redundancy, which in the text of law may be perceived both from systemic point of view and linguistic perspective. Within systemic standpoint, the paper focuses on superfluum issue, which occurs when one provision is repeated by another legal provision (full superfluum) and when part of one provision becomes „new” provision (or its part) in the same or another legal text (partial superfluum). These manifestations of systemic redundancy are not always results of legislative mistakes (as might be noticed during analysis of selected examples of superfluum derived from Polish legal texts), but the evaluation of each case of superfluum depends on criterions, which in Polish legal system are incomplete and imprecise. In the second part, the paper discusses one kind of linguistic redundancy – semantic redundancy, which appears in pleonasms, tautologies and pleonastic analytisms. It is argued here, in contrary to majority of previous descriptions of semantic redundancy phenomenon presented in linguistics and legal theory, that some redundant expressions may be useful during interpretation of legal provisions, because in certain circumstances they may have pragmatic values. These values are: enhancing meaning, specifying meaning and explicating meaning. Furthermore, in some cases aforementioned pragmatic values may be reached by context-independent redundant expressions, what has been shown basing on examples from Polish legal texts.
Anna Teresa Tymieniecka’s (1923-2014) concept of phenomenology of life appears as a cosmological perspective of the development of phenomenology in general. Although Polish philosopher elaborated this conception in polemic with Edmund Husserl’s phenomenological view and in co-operation with the natural sciences, she tried to keep all the gains of classical phenomenology. Ultimately, she subjected the transcendental consciousness to verification, pointing its stability as a result of the intentionality of cognition, which Husserl considered as the constitutive function of the subject. By changing the perspective, Tymieniecka was striving to demonstrate that the subject - the living human being - gives the world the sense of meaning and knows it as originally inspired and motivated by his imagination. Therefore, thecreative imagination - Imaginatuio Creatrix - should be established as a dynamic source of the constitution of the human world.

Fenomenologia życia autorstwa Anny Teresy Tymienieckiej (1923–2014), to kosmologiczna perspektywa rozwoju fenomenologii. Zmieniając perspektywę, Tymieniecka dążyła do wykazania, że podmiot – żywy człowiek – obdarza świat sensem i poznaje go, pierwotnie inspirowany i motywowany wyobraźnią. Dlatego wyobraźnię twórczą – imaginatio creatrix – należy uczynić dynamicznym źródłem konstytucji ludzkiego świata.
Although gratitude has privilege to be one of the most bonding realities regulating people’s relations and as such has been highly valued in philosophical and theological literature, in the field of psychological science for a long time it was not considered as a topic worthy of consideration. The status of gratitude as a neglected and weak emotion was gradually overcome thanks to various theorists who explained the phenomenon of gratitude and clarified the essential mechanisms of its development. The present article is primarily an attempt of concise historical presentation of gratitude in the light of chosen social–psychological theories, which were elaborated by such authors as: Heider, Weiner, Maslow, Ortony, Lazarus, Emmons, McCullough, Fredrickson, Buck, Wojciszke and Kemper. Theoretical accomplishments of the above-mentioned authors and other topics related to conceptualization of gratitude explicate complexity and multidimensional character of this construct. Historical presentation is preceded by linguistic and philosophical outline concerning gratitude.

W strukturze ludzkiego mózgu można wyróżnić kolejno warstwowo ułożone: mózg jaszczurki (umożliwia oddychanie, spożywanie posiłków i sen), mózg psa (zdolność do tworzenia hierarchicznego społeczeństwa) i nowość ewolucyjną – mózg człowieka (zdolność do abstrakcyjnego myślenia).

The structure of the human brain can be divided successively stacked layers: the lizard brain (it is possible to breathing, eating and sleeping), dog brain (the ability to create a hierarchical society) and evolutionary novelty as the human brain (the ability to abstract thinking). Human neocortex is thicker than in animals. In addition to the thickness of the neocortex, in humans it is more wrinkled than in animals. Another difference in favor of the human brain is the size and perfection of the developed frontal lobes, which contribute to a larger memory. The frontal lobes make people’s focus on general images, creating general concepts and schemes, but reduce the capacity to perceive details, detailed and unique data, pure sensory stimuli. The perception of detail is appropriate for the animal world. Therefore, the animal EEG is not different from the human, so this is a basis for the adoption thesis that the animals have a conscious thoughts in the context of fragrances, touch and taste. Animals also think fi guratively, but in man there is a higher level of general intelligence. This results in human life, that instead of looking for work fi rst over-generalizations, principles and operating standards. Human thinking relies on language, thinking and animal assisted the (phonetic speech) music issued votes. For verbal and musical language corresponds to part of thebrain called Broca’s center. Development of verbal language has enabled the evolution of the frontal lobes. More specifi cally, the left hemisphere is responsible for language word. Among philosophers, there is discussion on the issue of consciousness is not only depending on the structure of the brain, but also in search of a more detailed conditions. Important place in this quest is “intentionality”, which is a reference between the mind and the real world. Between the mind and objects stand out as constituting an entity referencing content. Thus intentionality and content references form the basis of the search for consciousness in animals. These two components in humans and animals are the cause of automatic response and action. In humans, language expression and language of thought varies greatly. People abide by the outside world into their idea of what you do not do animals. Regardless of the resulting differences is assumed that is the basis of raising intentionality in both animals and humans. However, among animals intentionality and consciousness are consistent, in a human environment, this consistency is only a dream. Due to the convergence of the evolutionary development of the brains of animal and human behavior as the basis, I suggest that instead of “moral objectivity” to accept the thesis “participation animal morality” in morality. Recognize moral principles, forms a system of concepts, but does not set a man. Much has been written about the possibility of the evolution of the human soul with a sensual animal soul. In this article, I give it a discourse on the spirituality of the soul transcends natural.
The article is an attempt to outline the framework for debate around the dominant theoretical models explaining the sources and causes of psychological suffering in the context of the underlying concepts of subjectivity, and to outline an alternative theoretical model derived from psychoanalytic theory. The author derives the account of mental suffering and subjectivity found in contemporary discourse from Cartesian philosophy based on the dichotomies of mind and body, subject and object. Consequently, mental suffering or insanity is explained either as the result of a free subjective decision, and therefore something for which one is responsible, or as an organic disorder that has no relation to the subjectivity of the suffering person. The model proposed by the author is intended to make it possible to go beyond the Cartesian dichotomies outlined above and bypass the difficulties associated with them. The author, by referring to the concept of pre-reflective intentionality, attempts to outline a psychoanalytic concept of the subject, which would allow one to think of mental suffering in terms of subjectivity but without locating it in the realm of moral condemnation.

Artykuł stanowi próbę zarysowania przestrzeni debaty wokół dominujących modeli teoretycznych wyjaśniających źródła i przyczyny psychicznego cierpienia w kontekście leżących u ich podłoża koncepcji podmiotowości oraz nakreślenia wywodzącego się z teorii psychoanalitycznej alternatywnego modelu teoretycznego. Autor wyprowadza występujące we współczesnym dyskursie ujęcie psychicznego cierpienia i podmiotowości z filozofii kartezjańskiej opartej na dychotomii umysłu i ciała, podmiotu i przedmiotu.
The author recognises the assumptions of Rollo May's philosophy and existential psychology and, in this context, investigates the essence of the pedagogical thought of the eminent American psychologist. In particular, he focuses on the process of self-education, which enables a person to live a creative and satisfying life. However, this is a difficult process, associated with experiencing crises, re-evaluating one's own value systems, dealing with fears and feelings of guilt. Without self-development understood in this way, a person will not discover the meaning of his or her own existence and will not be able to live authentically and realise his or her own potential. Becoming aware of the negative aspects of one's own nature and working through them is the key to self-realisation and even the development of non-egoistic forms of consciousness.

According to the usual, simplified picture of the Meinong‑Russell controversy, Meinong’s semantics is structurally amazingly simple but ontologically very expensive, while Russell’s theory contains some counter‑intuitive syntactic complications, but to make up for this expense it releases us from almost all ontological troubles. Now the reality is much more complex. On the one hand it appears that the alleged ontological innocence of Russell’s solution has been highly exaggerated. In particular it assumes a Platonic ontology of universal properties. At the same time, if we look a bit closer, also Meinong’s theory turns out to be much more complicated than it looks at the first sight. It involves a hierarchy of objects exhibiting different degrees of completeness and in the later period of Meinong’s thought the structure of intentional reference takes a form very similar to that which has been proposed by Russell in his On Denoting.
This text examines the topic of truthmakers in the philosophy of Peter Thomas Geach, presenting a reconstruction of Geach’s concept and critically analyzing it. The focus is on the connection between mental representations of perceived objects, their linguistic reflection and reality. Additionally, the text explores the concept of God’s causality in St. Thomas Aquinas’ philosophy and compares it with Geach’s approach, highlighting their distinctive features. A formal representation of this relationship is then provided. The central thesis of this theory posits the identification of God with Truth, which allows for the understanding of the verification relationship through the term “voluntaristic causation”. Consequently, following Thomas Aquinas’ proposed terminology, God is categorized as one of the entia actu intelligibilia. However, Geach’s concept lacks in-depth analysis of the matter of person. Another problematic aspect of this concept pertains to the clarification of the ontological category serving as the foundation for verification relations. Difficulties arise when attempting to adapt Geach’s theory to contemporary perspectives that consider states of affairs as the ontological basis for the semantics under consideration. The epistemology employed by the British philosopher relies on the subject-object relationship, akin to God’s causal connection to reality, rather than states of affairs.

The intention of persuasion in advertising discourse is obvious. This article proposes an analysisof brand names, product names and slogans in a very trendy field – cosmetics and ecological,or so-called ecological products. Persuasive intentions such as positioning, makingbelieve and making do are presented therein and used to provoke a desire and fill a need. The components will be analysed according to the research of linguists such as Charaudeau,Navarro Dom´ınguez, Pachocińska, Prak-Derrington, and Searle. The expected resultswill prove that intention uses not only psychological but also linguistic manipulations in orderto attract consumers.

Przedstawionoi wykorzystano w nich intencje perswazyjne, takie jak pozycjonowanie, making believei making do, używane w celu wzbudzenia pożądania i zaspokojenia potrzeby potencjalnegoklienta.

The paper aims to present the criterion of art, which is the act of accepting the status of a work of art by the artist after the completion of the creative process. The analysis includes a distinction concerning the interpretation of a work of art as conducted in a diversified and multi-directional manner from a possible discussion about the issue of whether a given object or process is a work of art. The article contains a thesis about the impossibility of depriving a work of art of this status. The discussion refers to the concept of the creative activity, the reception process, the concept of Artworld and the institutional definition of art, recognizing the latter as too far-interfering with the nature of art and containing suggestions on relational understanding of a work of art.
W artykule podjęto probę określenia ram analityczno-krytycznych dyskursów o podmiocie oraz kierunków analiz (kontekstów) teoretycznych i zarysowania praktycznych odniesień we współczesnej problematyce z zakresu badań naukowych.

The aim of the article is to present problem areas in a synthetic way and to indicate the issues that arise when determining the status of science in terms of subjectivity and intentionality of experience and analysis. The research question was as follows: what issues should be considered in the socio-humanistic (incl. pedagogical) reflection around the triad: science - subjectivity - intentionality. The article attempts to define an analytical and critical framework of the discussion about the subject and the directions of theoretical analyzes. The author’s aim is also to outline practical references of contemporary research issues.
The aim of the work presented here is to show the real relation between ethics and business, which cannot focus solely on the subordination of one area to the other, but must take into account the principles and objectives of both. The systematisation of the topic presented was undertaken, among others, by the Alfred Nobel Prize winner of the Bank of Sweden, Professor Amartya Sen, who, in describing their relation, presented it in two possible variants, in which positive behaviour in business is linked to a certain perception of economic sense. The first captures it as a reward in itself through its direct impact on the society in which the individual lives. The second way - the enlightened way – sees it in the specific outcome to which positive behaviour leads. The distinction presented, however, encounters the problem of the intentionality of the action taken, which stands in opposition to the very essence of morality. It cannot, therefore, be formulated in a way that treats ethics as a tool to achieve a particular outcome.

Drugi sposób, oświecony, widzi go w określonym rezultacie, do którego prowadzą pozytywne zachowania.
This article concerns the nature of the pattern and extent of referring to the convention in opposition to the originality of the creator being part of a trend of historical novels. The basis of this article is a historical novel by Jacek Komuda entitled “Bohun” (Lublin 2012) juxtaposed with “Trilogy” by Henryk Sienkiewicz. The comparative analysis is based on text linguistics tools, and above all on two criteria of textuality: intentionality and intertextuality. The combination of the writing workshops of two novelists is motivated by the genre (historical novel), setting in the reality of Sarmatian Poland and source base. However, a very clear division between both texts is the understanding of literary elements in historical novel, and thus the approach to historical truth. The irony mentioned in the title can be seen in conscious opposition to the proposed by Sienkiewicz and strongly rooted in Polish readership tradition pattern of historical novel written for “spirit lifting” and thus in a negative reflection of the ideological concept of Sienkiewicz. This is done by selecting the main themes of the novel – natural history of the Polish army, a negative image of the Polish gentry and ennobling image of the Cossack. The similarity between the two texts is reflected in the language realisation. In the novel by Komuda linguistic elements common in Sienkiewicz are present, specific and reproducible, obtaining the status of so-called “winged words” repeatedly documented by lexicographers by quotes from Sienkiewicz.
