The author compares the concept of measurement as applied in psychology with the concept of measurement in natural sciences represented by entries in the international dictionary of metrology. He rejects the concept of measurement as assigning numbers to objects and so-called “nominal scale”. The author considers the measurement a less broad concept then quantification. Psychological quantification is not a measurement but a probabilistic assessment of a latent variable level that we only presume (contrary to really existing quantities in natural sciences).

Edition of the Arabic account P. Louvre inv. E 6380 originating from the Fayum and dating to the second half of the eighth century. The document strongly suggests that the Arabic measure matar derives from the Greek metron.
Ancient Graeco-Roman architecture was designed with the application of mathematical harmony as a key compositional principle used in planning the dimensions and proportions of particular elements, larger parts of buildings or whole edifices. Therefore, application of metrology studies based on a cosine quantogram supports architectural analysis leading to an indication of the predominant stylistic influence on any particular building. Such a dual approach helps to establish the origins of the major artistic tradition in architectural design, especially of buildings excavated in a complex multicultural archaeological context. The aim of this paper is to determine the existence and nature of a module in the architectural decoration as well as in the general design of the ‘Hellenistic’ House, a spacious residence in Nea Paphos, Cyprus, erected in Roman times, but according to the artistic Ptolemaic tradition.
W artykule zaprezentowano streszczenie wiedzy dotyczącej problemów badawczych i metrologicznych dotyczących oceny cech i parametrów systemów uzbrojenia. Artykuł stanowi pewien wstęp do rozpoczęcia prac nad rozszerzeniem metrologii związanej z pomiarami i oceną wyników uzyskanych w laboratoriach badawczych podczas realizacji procedur związanych z badaniami wskaźników opisowych i funkcjonalnych.

The article presents a summary of knowledge on the research and metrological problems related to the assessment of features and parameters of weapon systems. The basic metrological problem of research laboratories evaluating weapon systems is related to the constant search for new solutions, building unique test stands and seeking metrological equipment with higher accuracy classes than the equipment of military weapon systems which is subject to assessment. This is very difficult for the military technology to perform, even impossible in many cases. Significant research problems raised in the article also concern the study of descriptive and functional features which are not addressed by metrology. The article is an introduction to the commencement of works on the extension of metrology related to measurements and evaluation of the results obtained in research laboratories during the implementation of procedures related to the testing of descriptive and functional indicators. The information included in the article may be a source of knowledge for both the personnel of military laboratories and the personnel of civilian laboratories.
Gdańsk (German: Danziger) Polytechnic was founded in 1904. The functioning of the Polytechnic was strongly related to Gdańsk; that is why in its history up to 1945 there are three periods: Prussian, die Freie Stadt Danzig (the Free City of Danzig), and the SecondWorld War. Since the beginning one of the most important fields of teaching was electric engineering. The development in that field would not have been possible without electric metrology. That is why at the Polytechnic there had always been classes and lectures concerning that sphere, which required well-equipped labs and competent teaching staff. The classes in metrology at Gdańsk Polytechnic were taught by dozent dr Konrad Simons, dozent Heinrich Roth, a registered engineer, professor Waldemar Grix, professor Karl Küpfmüller, professor Hans Schwenkhagen, an engineer. From the very beginning the classes included such issues as measurement of electric current, voltage and power, electric current meters, testing of machines, the theory and precise mesurement of electric quantities. Until the mid-1930s many Poles studied at Gdańsk University, among whom there were some outstanding specialists in electric metrology working later at Polish universities: Edmund Romer (Silesian Polytechnic), and Stefan Jerzy Lebson (WarsawPolytechnic). By virtue of the edict of the Ministers’ Council dated May 24th, 1945 the polytechnic was transformed into a Polish higher school and called ‘Politechnika Gdańska’. The labs of metrology are located in the same rooms, and the same equipment was usedstill a few years after the war.

Heinrich Roth, prof. dr Waldemar Grix, prof. Karl Küpfmüller, prof. dr inż. Hans Schwenkhagen. Od początku obejmowały one takie zagadnienia jak pomiary prądu, napięcia, mocy, liczniki energii elektrycznej, badanie maszyn, teoria i pomiary dokładne wielkości elektrycznych. W okresie do połowy lat 30.
This article discusses the issues of applying the institutions of civil law in the activities of the economic administration based on the example of the administration of measures on the grounds of implemented tasks regarding the assessment system of conformity of goods with the essential requirements. The aim of the article is to identify new areas of applications of the civil law in the administration of measures and new legal phenomena taking place in the relations of administration authorities with entrepreneurs which are implied by the technical development in the area of metrology. Furthermore, the evaluation of their effects on the economy is presented both from the perspective of the protection of state interest and the interest of an individual entrepreneur. The following phenomena taking place under the influence of the appliance of civil-legal regulation method in metrology are presented: privatisation of public tasks from the field of metrology, appliance of civil-legal agreements in the activity of the administration of measures and the change in the status of administrative entities (offices of measures) as well as the situation of notified entities of the administration of measures in the conditions of parallel performed tasks in the conformity assessment system regarding the measuring instruments.

Artykuł omawia zagadnienie stosowania instytucji prawa cywilnego w działalności administracji gospodarczej na przykładzie administracji miar na gruncie realizowanych zadań z zakresu oceny zgodności wyrobów z zasadniczymi wymaganiami. Celem artykułu jest próba identyfikacji nowych obszarów zastosowania prawa cywilnego w działaniach administracji miar i nowych zjawisk prawnych zachodzących w relacjach organów administracji z przedsiębiorcami implikowanych postępem technicznym w dziedzinie metrologii. Zaprezentowane zostały zjawiska prawne zachodzące pod wpływem stosowania cywilnoprawnej metody regulacji w metrologii: prywatyzacja zadań publicznych z zakresu metrologii, zastosowanie umów cywilnoprawnych w działalności administracji miar oraz zmiana statusu podmiotów administrujących (urzędów miar) i sytuacja jednostek notyfikowanych administracji miar w warunkach równoległego wykonywania zadań publicznych w systemie ocenie zgodności przyrządów pomiarowych.
Analizowany okres czasu obejmował cztery lata przed epidemią SARS-CoV-2 i ostatni rok - w którym edukacja, jak i zaliczenia prowadzone były w formie zdalnej. Artykuł kończy podsumowanie, w którym przedstawiono wnioski z pierwszego pełnego roku pracy z wykorzystaniem dostępnych narzędzi w systemie zdalnej edukacji obejmującej przedmioty techniczne.

The article presents the issues related to the learning of technical subjects within distance learning. The author started by outlining the scope of regulations in force at technical universities and introduced by the Rector for the duration of the pandemic. Their aim was to standardize the methods of education as well as the rules of organizing credits and examinations remotely. Examples of learning outcomes necessary to be achieved by students as a result of completing the metrology course are also presented. They were divided into three groups: knowledge, skills and competences, emphasizing unequivocally the effects that in the case of only the remote form of education may be difficult to achieve by the participants of the above-mentioned course. Then, the applied forms of teaching metrology were presented, emphasizing their usefulness and paying attention to the risks in the context of the content transmitted in a remote form. The last part of the article contains a summary of the results obtained by students of two different faculties in the last five years. The analyzed period of time covered the four years before the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic, and the last year where education and credits were conducted remotely.
The article deals with the formation of the leading special historical disciplines (further – SHD) in the native science, that study certain types of historical sources and develop theoretical and methodological basis of this research. It is emphasized, that special historical disciplines have come a long way of development and not at once became the special. In the ХІХ-th century, they had the status of auxiliary historical disciplines. The article highlights the stages of development of SHD from the second half of the ХІХ-th century – till the beginning of the XXI century, in particular pre-soviet, soviet and modern periods. At the beginning of the XXI century the majority Ukrainian researchers agrees with the need to rename the previously used “auxiliary historical discipline” to “special historical discipline”. In the pre-soviet period the role of the major SHD as paleography, diplomatics, metrology, genealogy, sphragistics and heraldry in the native science has increased considerably since they acquired the status of independent scientific “auxiliary historical disciplines”, and some of them are taught in the universities of Lviv, Kharkiv, Kiev, Novorossiisk for training of professional historians. The article revealed the contribution of prominent native scientists to development of studios of SHD (I. Sreznevskyi, D. Yavornytskyi, I. Kamanin, V. Lukomskyi, V. Modzalevskyi, I. Krypiakevych, O. Lazarevskyi and others). The Soviet period was characterized by a continuation of development and becoming of fully new auxiliary historical disciplines that appropriately began to stand out from the classic SHD. Thus codicology and filigranology separated from palaeography, getting the own object of study. At present there is further differentiation of SHD, extension study of “Ukrainian documentary material”, native experts have productively comprehended the achievements of predecessors and have prepared professional publications. Therefore, the article presents the studies that define the basic aspects of SHD studios’ development and their place in the Ukrainian historical science. It is marked that recently has observed strengthening of attention of scientists to history, theory and methodology of SHD.
Stanisław Grzepski (1524-1570) an outstanding classic and biblical philologist, the first Greek permanent lecturer of this language at the Krakow Academy. He combined philological interests with the passion of numismatist-collector and researcher of biblical antiquities. The fruit of his erudite knowledge in this area was published in the printing house of Krzysztof Plantin in Antwerp in 1568, the work of De multiplici siclo et talento hebraico. The Cracow scholar in the subtitle referred to Guillaume’s Budé earlier work De asse et partibus eius. Despite the fact that Grzepski presents himself to the reader as the author of a summary of the extensive work of a French scholar and diplomat, he created a work independent and in many places polemic with the findings of the famous predecessor. The article shows the character and significance of the work of Stanisław Grzepski, which has become a part of European science for over 200 years as a textbook of numismatics and biblical archeology.
The aim of the article is an attempt to present the history of measurement in the lands of the former East Prussia, now Warmia and Mazury, in the years 1868 - 1966. The article outlines the introduction of the metric system in the emerging German Empire and East Prussia, as well as the expansion of the metric offices which fell to Poland in the post-war years. The expansion of the Polish weights and measures administration and its post-war problems are also presented. Everything was enriched with many interesting illustrations to make the reader even more curious. The article is certainly not exhaustive due to the scanty amount of source materials, which the author is aware of, but it will certainly be a beginning for further research and scientific studies.

The impact of metrology on the economy is typically determined on the basis of econometric models that are the modifications of the Cobb-Douglas function and which take into account total factor productivity (TFP). Such models make it possible to examine the cointegration of metrological variables and basic macroeconomic variables. However, this approach could not be used to determine the impact of metrology on the economy in Poland due to too few observations, and thus short time series of the macroeconomic data. The aim of the study presented in this article is to assess the impact of metrology on the economy in Poland by means of the Solow growth model. This model allows a simulation-based approach to analyse the effects of metrology by perturbing TFP. To the authors' best knowledge, this type of approach has not yet been used to examine the impact of metrology on the economy. The study demonstrates that a 1-percent increase in the net stock of standards correlates with a 0.35-percent rise in labour productivity, measured as production per employee. These findings align with similar analyses conducted in other countries, contributing to the understanding of metrology's economic significance.
The purpose of this article is to discuss the usefulness of the resources of official statistics for metrology analysis and the assessment of the impact of metrology on the economy. Official statistics provide key information for metrology, including in particular: macroeconomic data, industrial output, corporate financial performance, science, technology and innovation statistics, as well as employment and income data. Conclusions from such a data analysis can help policymakers, business people and academic and research institutions understand the role of metrology in the economy, identify areas in need of support or investment, and plan strategies for the development of metrology-related sectors.

The article presents the specificity of standpoints in which laboratory, instrumental and practical aspect of science is strongly underlined. This is mainly Sociology of Scientific Knowledge (Science and Technology Studies, STS), but also the interesting conception of a Polish philosopher, Paweł Zeidler, who analyses laboratory practice of chemistry. The text indicates the originality of Zeidler’s view, its merits and weak points. The author polemicizes with Zeidler and proposes an alternative interpretation of Ian Hacking’s perspective, who describes the roots of stability of laboratory practice.
