The SARS-CoV-2 virus epidemic in 2020 was accompanied by the spreading of false and misleading information, the so-called fake news, on a growing scale. This was done primarily through the Internet with the use of social media, instant messaging, but also websites, including those imitating Internet portals widely recognized as reliable. The disinformation carried out in the manner described above, combined with the growing number of people infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus and deceased as a result of it, constituted no less than the virus itself a threat to society, arousing its anxiety and sometimes even panic. In response to this new threat, the authorities of individual countries have made efforts to counter it with the use of existing and new criminal laws. In the case of Poland, representatives of some public institutions informed about the possibility of holding the authors of fake news criminally liable under art. 224a of the Criminal Code. The author of the article attempts to answer the question whether the indicated penal provision can in fact be used to counteract the more and more frequent dissemination of misleading information. For the above purpose, he analyzes selected cases of fake news in terms of the possibility of their authors fulfilling the criteria of a prohibited act under Art. 224a of the Criminal Code.

Epidemii wirusa SARS-CoV-2 panującej w 2020 roku towarzyszyło rozpowszechnianie na coraz większą skalę fałszywych i wprowadzających opinię publiczną w błąd informacji, tzw. fake newsów. W odpowiedzi na to nowe zagrożenie organy poszczególnych państw podejmowały starania w celu przeciwdziałania mu z wykorzystaniem istniejących i nowych przepisów karnych. W przypadku Polski przedstawiciele niektórych instytucji publicznych informowali o możliwości pociągnięcia autorów fake newsów do odpowiedzialności karnej na podstawie art. 224a Kodeksu karnego.

The purpose of this article is to present the fake news discourse in confrontation with the news discourse. For the pattern of the discourse analysis of the news, I adopted T. van Dijk’s theory of discourse. Analysis of the study of several cases of fake news allowed to draw conclusions about the structure of fake news and the answer to the question of how the fake news discourse is at all possible. The analysis showed that the conditions of its possibilities are among others in structural similarities, common news values, technological chan in the media and how recipients read messages. The phenomenon of spreading fake news now creates threat for the functioning of the public sphere. For this reason, media education should focus primarily on the ability to critically analyze sources of information.

The article contains an analysis of the statutory features of the offense of violating the freedom to vote under Article 250 of the Criminal Code and presents postulates de lege ferenda. De lege lata, it is only punishable to influence voters by using force, unlawful threat or by abusing a relationship of dependence. According to the author, the perpetrator‘s actions should have been supplemented with “deceit”. The proposed modification will ensure greater protection of the protected value specified in Article 250, including against the current forms of electoral manipulation, such as the provision of fake news or deep fakes using microtargeting of voters.
Fake news is false, manipulative information that spreads rapidly on the Internet, especially on social networking sites. It mainly deals with controversial topics, such as escape or migration. It is because of such false information treated by its recipients as true that refugees are suspected of, among other things, violence, thefts or obtaining additional benefits from the receiving community. The article discusses selected fake news about refugees in order to show how easy it is to be manipulated on the Internet. The main aim of fake news is to arouse negative emotions in recipients and to incite them to feel hatred and to be violent towards refugees.
In the article, I analysed the problem of fake news in the context of the traditional paradigm of a news story. The traditional paradigm posits that, most of all, a piece of information is true. However in contemporary media, there exist pieces of information which are fabricated and untrue. It is not a new phenomenon, yet it has intensified in recent years. News stories are fabricated for entertainment, political, or commercial purposes. They are carriers of propaganda and profit. The essence of fake news is the intentional misleading of the receiver for achieving the above gains. It is difficult to verify their veracity, and identify fake news items due to their similarity to real pieces of news. That is why they are becoming a part of the media landscape in which we will probably have to exist.
The following interview took place during the conference Truth and Communication in the Era of Misinformation from Kierkegaard to Social Media held at St. John’s University, November 16-17, 2018.
Our study is qualitative research. It is a content analysis of more than 2,500 European and American posters of war propaganda identifying modern principles of persuasion and forms of discourse. The analysis of the themes demonstrates that the techniques used one hundred years ago to convince civilians to enlist had enormous potential for development to such a degree that they were adopted by modern political and commercial persuasion. Therefore, we can consider the propagandists of the Great War as modern spin doctors. The idea evolved after reading Propaganda (1928) by Edward Bernays, the nephew of Sigmund Freud. This is an astonishing book; it provides illuminating interpretations both for understanding of war propaganda – not just for the Great War – and for the commercial discourse of which Bernays became a promoting agent. During the Great War the propagandists used emotional and rational stratagems to convince volunteers to leave to the front. Among these, the fake news played an important role in the production of the posters that served to motivate and galvanize people to defend the ideals of the war. It was an organized disinformation action because, especially for American people, the war was very far in kilometres and in interest. Fake news has two different factors: wrong or unreasonable argumentations and false information used as premises. The success of the posters was that of moulding the agenda-setting and the opinion of citizens in order to increase the enlistment to defend the identity of the nation.
Century is a time of a media revolution. Convergence, networking and massive digitalization of culture caused that traditional kind of media are changing its aspect and structure but not only. In addition, their impact on reality is much more stronger than several decades ago. The changes that are happening now in media affect much more than just our everyday life. Those, that are mentioned in article let us ask questions about existence of truth as a unquestionable value that is widely respected and defined as a basis for the functioning of democratic societies.
The author attempts to indicate the changes affecting the area of social media and the challenges it faces, such as the preparation of fake news and the challenges it faces. The war in Ukraine has shown, on the largest scale to date, how social media influence the perception of the parties to the conflict and how they affect allies not taking an active part in the war. The issues of dis-information, creation of chaos, manipulation of information and the dynamics of social media change before and after the start of the war in Ukraine will be discussed.
In this paper the impact of large language models (LLM) on the fake news phenomenon is analysed. On the one hand decent text‐generation capabilities can be misused for mass fake news production. On the other, LLMs trained on huge volumes of text have already accumulated information on many facts thus one may assume they could be used for fact‐checking. Experiments were designed and conducted to verify how much LLM responses are aligned with actual fact‐checking verdicts. The research methodology consists of an experimental dataset preparation and a protocol for interacting with ChatGPT, currently the most sophisticated
The article is devoted to reflection on the attitudes of professional media (especially the news media) towards false information (fake news). The aim of the analysis was to establish the motives behind the creation and dissemination of such information by the media, as well as actions and attitudes adopted after its publication. The findings were presented based on an analysis of various cases of fake news, mainly from the political sphere. The author points out that similar media deal with fake news in a similar way assuming the same actions and attitudes. The way the media behave also shows an instrumental approach to fake news as a means or a tool to achieve a certain goal.
The main aim of the article is identification of the attitudes towards the processes of identification and verification of fake news in the environment of digital media. The subject of the research refers to the users’ attitudes towards fake news. As indicated by the research, the attitudes towards fake news are not unambiguous. About 2/3 of the respondents claim that they are not able to distinguish fake news from true information; only every twelfth respondent declares that they know tools for verification of information, although the research survey has been carried out among students of media management, journalism and marketing – students who deal with information in social media.
The aim of this article is to broaden the current knowledge about changes in the profession of a journalist caused by the digitization and convergence of the media. The authors carried out surveys among journalists, exploring issues related to their opinion on professionalization, the process of changes in the media as well as opportunities and threats indicated by new media.

Niniejsze opracowanie stanowi próbę identyfikacji i analizy wybranych przykładów dezinformacji w krajowej przestrzeni informacyjnej.
