Technology transfer plays a key role in boosting innovation in the economy. Spin off and spin out companies are important elements of the whole technology transfer system. Their goal is to develop and commercialize innovative technologies. The paper focuses on the processes of technology transfer in Poland, in which spin offs and spin outs, especially from scientific and research institutes, are involved. Part one deals with theoretical issues which are related to the definition of technology transfer, its main forms and channels. The second part presents main characteristics of spin offs and spin outs in Poland. The concept of sustainable development can be defined and interpreted in many ways, but at its core lies an approach to development that balances different, and often competing, needs against an awareness of the environmental, social, and economic boundaries the society faces. The aim of the paper is to discuss the issue of turning the idea into practice, presenting environmental priorities of the EU’s Sustainable Development Strategy, their implementation and monitoring. The sustainable development indicators in the theme of climate change and energy, namely greenhouse gas emissions and primary energy consumption, are analyzed and described.

Koncepcja zrównoważonego rozwoju może być definiowana i interpretowana na wiele różnych sposobów. Jednak w swej istocie polega ona na rozwoju, który równoważy różne – i często sprzeczne – wymagania środowiskowe, społeczne i gospodarcze. Podstawowym celem artykułu jest przedstawienie istoty koncepcji zrównoważonego rozwoju ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem jej wymiaru środowiskowego, zarówno w aspekcie teoretycznym, jak i na przykładzie Strategii Zrównoważonego Rozwoju Unii Europejskiej. Analizie poddane zostały dwa wskaźniki wiodące Strategii Zrównoważonego Rozwoju, czyli emisja gazów cieplarnianych oraz zużycie energii pierwotnej.

The main aim of this article is to present institutional, social and cultural factors which have an impact on the shape of innovation systems of Muslim countries, with particular reference to Qatar. The article consists of four parts, and an introduction and conclusions. Part one presents the definitions and describes the essence of the national innovation system; part two discusses the most important cultural and social determinants of the innovation systems, with an emphasis on the role of social capital and related values; part three presents the review of innovation systems in Muslim countries; part four addresses the most important institutional, social and cultural factors which shape the Qatar innovation system.

Celem artykułu jest charakterystyka wybranych czynników instytucjonalnych, społecznych i kulturowych systemów innowacji państw muzułmańskich, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem Kataru, zwłaszcza roli kapitału społecznego dla ogólnego charakteru narodowych systemów innowacji. Praca składa się ze wstępu, czterech zasadniczych części oraz wniosków. W pierwszej części przedstawiono definicje oraz istotę narodowego systemu innowacji, w drugiej zidentyfikowano i omówiono najważniejsze uwarunkowania kulturowe i społeczne funkcjonowania systemów innowacji, z naciskiem na rolę kapitału społecznego i wartości z nim związanych. Trzecia część artykułu została poświęcona przeglądowi systemów innowacji w państwach muzułmańskich, a w czwartej podjęto próbę oceny znaczenia wybranych uwarunkowań instytucjonalnych, społecznych i kulturowych w tworzeniu modelu systemu innowacji w Katarze.

Eco-innovation is a new paradigm of development in the European Union. This is the key to resolving issues related to environmental pollution, while contributing to the competitiveness of the European economy. The role of eco-innovation will grow in the future. This study attempts to examine Polish preparations for the implementation of the European Union's "Europe 2020 strategy" and integrated strategies, with an emphasis on the implementation of the objectives related to eco-innovation. At the same time the article touches on the issues of a national system for supporting eco-innovation and the role of eco-innovation in both EU and Polish public policy.
