Compound adjectives in Polish dialects

100%
EN
The purpose of the paper is description of the compound adjectives in Polish dialects. This is the first study presented complete dialect compounds. Only a few remarks of dialect compounds were published to date (for example Handke 1976, 1997; Cyran 1977). The data used in this were taken from the dialect studies and from the manuscript card-index of 'The dictionary Polish dialects' in the PAN Polish Language Institute in Krakow. The authoress describes word formation and semantic structure of compounds. During the analysis the following criterions were taken into consideration: grammatical character of the clauses, the way the clauses are connected as well as indicators of the compound representing the hole structure. The article presents characteristic types of combinations in the dialect, which do not exist in the standard language (e.g. boguduszny, osmiskibowy, pólpatrzacy). The list of all types of adjective compounds in Polish dialect is presented at the end of the article in a form of a table.
