Protection of historical monuments which are located in the country borough should be one of the duties the local government has. Tasks that the public administration are responsible for are determined by article 4 of the statute of the Protection of and Care for Historical Monuments from September 17th 2003. Local communities should ensure that legal, financial and organisational provisions are in place to enable the constant preservation and maintenance of historical monuments. One of their responsibilities is to include protection and preservation of historical monuments while shaping the environment and implementing spatial development plans. This task is integral to the Community Protection Programme of Historical Monuments which every local government is obliged to have. In January 2009 The Regional Department of Polish Heritage is Katowice performed a poll in local communities in Upper Silesia.
