The thesis deals with a question of how Czech interwar journalists in the magazine Přítomnost have been viewing Great Britain. Their detailed articles about British topics could be basically divided into two parts. The first, larger one consists of articles about Britain’s domestic and foreign policies. Numerous articles dealing with a wide variety of British topics could be accounted for the second part, especially essays about British national character and cultural phenomena. Considering a low awareness of Czech interwar society about Britain, it does not surprise that articles in the twenties have had mostly informative nature. Britain has been pictured as a cradle of democracy, reason and gentleman behaviour. In the thirties Britain has been described more realistically and — because of its foreign policy towards Czechoslovakia and Hitler’s Germany — more critically, especially during the year 1938.

Nejobsáhlejší okruh představovala otázka vnitřní a zahraniční politiky ostrovního státu. Pod druhý okruh lze potom zahrnout celou řadu článků, věnujících se široké škále témat, spojených s Velkou Británií, zejména národní povaze a kulturním jevům.

Článek přináší informace a zkušenosti s projektovou výukou mediální výchovy studentů katedry informačních a komunikačních technologií Pedagogické fakulty Ostravské univerzity (dále katedra ICT), tedy budoucích učitelů na základních a středních školách.

This study focuses on Czechoslovak reportage journalism and its reflection of political events in Germany during 1933, when the political system underwent a fundamental transformation into a totalitarian dictatorship led by Adolf Hitler. The study shows and analyses the interwar form of written reportage and reflects German events through texts by three prominent Czechoslovak journalists: Franta Kocourek, Géza Včelička and Egon Erwin Kisch. The study describes their narrative strategies and shows how journalistic work was influenced by the ideological positions of these Czechoslowak reporters. Despite their differing political positions, all three of them were united in their clear criticism of the NSDAP.

This paper summarizes an empirical corpus-based study of tendencies in register characteristics of Czech broadsheet newspapers (Lidové noviny, Mladá fronta DNES, Právo, Hospodářské noviny) and their comparison with the major tabloid newspaper Blesk in the period from 1995 to 2018. Register characteristics of journalistic texts are determined by projecting their position on a general multidimensional model established by previous research. The results show that Czech journalism has witnessed a significant decrease in cohesion, a shift from general to more concrete/specific descriptions and from explicit attitude signalling to a more factual style. The results did not provide sufficient evidence to confirm previously formulated hypotheses suggesting “tabloidization” and “conversationalization” of broadsheets in the period under examination.

During the epoch at the turn of the 20th century — known in the Hispanic area as modernism — the writers had to look for other ways how to make art and gain some money. The solution was often found in journalism, where a new genre appeared: the modernist chronicle. Despite the fact the newspapers were symbols of transitoriness the modernists tried even there to create a beautiful, artistic prose which would reflect the main questions and fears of that period. And the authors of chronicles were the key figures of Hispanoamerican modernism like José Martí and Rubén Darío. The modernist chronicle became an instrument of presentation of new, unknown and rare experiences and also a way how to interpret the modern world and human existence.
