In the paper the attention has been drawn to the principle of "triple E" in the activity of the contemporary enterprise referring to effectiveness, economy and ethics of economic activities. Increasing financial benefits and also building the enterprise value was the domain of many enterprises until very recently. Along with increase in social awareness and also increase in unethical behavior on the market, a lot of enterprises more and more frequently take actions referring to moral standards and also the ones connected with the concept of social responsibility. These activities include social interests, interests of the employees, as well as the environment protection, enabling achieving measurable benefits and especially, increase in the enterprise value.(

Niniejszy artykuł stanowi próbę przeniesienia niektórych koncepcji z zakresu rent ekonomicznych do analizy efektywności przedsiębiorstw działających w sieciach międzyorganizacyjnych. Rozwój tych sieci kreuje nowe wyzwania w zakresie procedur wspomagających podejmowanie decyzji. Dokonano przeglądu wybranych problemów pomiaru efektywności. Na tej bazie wskazano na możliwość interpretowania rentowności przedsiębiorstwa jako wartości łącznej dwóch rent: renty zasobowej i renty relacyjnej. Wyraża się przekonanie, że może to stanowić inspirujący przyczynek do poszukiwań instrumentów aplikacyjnych zwiększających prawidłowość podejmowanych decyzji w zakresie kształtowania powiązań sieciowych.

This article provides the attempt of economic rent conceptions transferring into analysis of effectiveness of networked enterprises. The development of interorganizational networks creates the new challenges of effectiveness measurements. Based on these facts, the possibilities of enterprise profitability measurement interpretation were indicated as a aggregate value of the rent on resources and the rent on relationships. It should like to express the firm confidence, that it may head to researches of new appropriable instruments for making decision of network relationships establishing more accurate.

The article shows the significance and forms of organizational innovations in small and medium enterprises. On the basis of survey studies conducted in a group of 300 enterprises from MSP sector in Lodz region, it is claimed that those enterprises attach more importance to innovations in organizational and environmental communication sphere than to innovations within the organization. Most of all, it justifies a great range of benefits that are brought by innovations connected with for example outsourcing or entering the network structures or of a cluster nature.

W artykule przedstawiono podstawowe dane opisujące sektor małych i średnich przedsiębiorstw. Wykorzystano dane statystyczne opublikowane przez Główny Urząd Statystyczny, Ministerstwo Gospodarki i Polską Agencję Rozwoju Przedsiębiorczości. Przedstawiono zmiany w liczbie podmiotów gospodarczych w latach 2004-2008. Omówiono poziom i strukturę oraz dynamikę zatrudnienia w sektorze MSP. Przeprowadzono analizę sytuacji finansowej w tym sektorze z uwzględnieniem przychodów, wyniku finansowego netto, stopy zysku, rentowności i płynności finansowej.

The paper presents the basic data describing the sector of small and medium sized enterprises. The statistical data published by Central Statistical Office, Ministry of Economy and the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development have been used. The changes in the number of economic entities in years 2004-2008 have been presented. There has been also presented the level of enterprises in all provinces, taking small and medium sized enterprises into a special consideration. The level and structure as well as dynamics of employment in the enterprises have been discussed. The analysis of financial situation of the small and medium sized enterprise sector has been carried on taking into consideration their revenues, net financial results, profit rates, earning capacity and financial availability.
