Acting in line with seven rules of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) - acting in an ethical and transparent manner, considering complex social and environmental requirements, creates value added to a company. This value added supports long-term and stable growth of the business; improved planning and more efficient consumption of resources; as well as creating environment of social trust enhancing innovative initiatives. Strategic dimension of CSR involves implementing its rules into all processes in the firm towards financial aims taken by a management. Strategically, CSR is looking towards obtaining a mutually beneficial (both socially and financially) understanding of expectations and interactions between the company and its widely defined stakeholders - including the surrounding society.

The article presents the operationalization and competitiveness measurement in online business companies. To determine the level of competitiveness synthetic measure of competitiveness has been developed. Three-dimensional concept of competitiveness has been applied to calculate the synthetic measure of competitiveness. The measurement has been conducted referring to three main levels: competitive position, competitive potential and instruments of competitiveness. On the basis of the calculated measure, companies was grouped into six groups: the best, very good, good, average, poor, very poor, the worst. It should be emphasized that the results are restricted due to limited representativeness of the sample.

Analizie poddano działania wspomagające innowacje preferowane przez kierowników na podstawie wyników badania ankietowego przeprowadzonego w 2009 r. w 27 krajach członkowskich Unii Europejskiej (UE). Badaniem objęto 5238 przedsiębiorstw zatrudniających przynajmniej 20 pracowników. Analizę przeprowadzono w przekroju państw członkowskich UE, jak również według kategorii przedsiębiorstw. Zakup maszyn nowych lub znacząco ulepszonych, sprzętu i oprogramowania był najbardziej popularną formą inwestycji innowacyjnych w przypadku badanych firm w latach 2006-2008. Zakup krajowych i zagranicznych patentów oraz wynalazków i know-how znacznie rzadziej. Działalności B + R była wykorzystywana na stosunkowo niższym poziomie.

The Author analyses the empirical research results of the surveys conducted in EU enterprises concerneiry innovation expenditures in 2006-2008. This analysis was conducted from a point of view of EU Member States as well as enterprise segments. Purchase of new or significantly improved machinery, equipment and software was the most common form of the innovative investment in case of the surveyed companies in 2006-2008. Purchase of domestic and foreign patents as well as inventions and know-how was significantly less common. The R+D activity, as important source of knowledge, were used on a relatively lower level. This paper presents the problems of measurement of innovation and the competitiveness of companies whose solution determines examining the relationships between these two given constructs. It has been believed that innovation can provide a competitive advantage to the company, but the study of these compounds requires the selection of measures both innovation and competitiveness. This article presents some of the tools of measurement of both innovation and competitiveness, and empirical research carried out in enterprises of production - in Silesia region.

Polish firms need to improve their performance in order to be more competitive internationally. As theoretical concepts of firm international competitiveness underline the importance of external sources of competitive advantage, empirical studies on firms cooperation may bring significant insight into this field. This paper presents theoretical foundations of firms' motives to form business partnerships and barriers to partnership relations. It is based on results of the study on cooperation of 155 Polish firms from the engineering sector.

A good financial situation of the companies involved in the survey is closely connected with intellectual capital, especially human capital and innovative capital. Thanks to new technologies, products, certificates and patents which are vital elements of innovative capital, companies can compete and stand out in the world of business. However, those components can be created only thanks to experienced, creative and well-educated staff. Podkarpackie Province has become more and more attractive in terms of economy. It is possible thanks to the entrepreneurs' involvement, economic zones which attract new companies as well as clusters operating in the area - for instance "Dolina Lotnicza" Cluster or Computer Cluster. The research carried out among 400 respondents from various companies, selected intellectual capital indicators and the analysis of economic and financial indicators - mainly profitability - confirm that the companies in the area consequently raise their value by means of a continuous development and by reinforcing their intellectual and creative potential. As a result their competitiveness and market share increase. The results of the research mentioned in the article provide information concerning the extent of intellectual capital in selected enterprises and its influence on competitiveness of companies. The attempt to evaluate the extent of intellectual capital and its influence on competitiveness, explains the issue of non-tangible assets which closely connected with businesses. The analyses of the data presented in the article touched only some of the issues concerning the influence of intellectual capital on companies' competitiveness. However, it is already clear that in the future the value of the companies and their development will be largely influenced by properly exploited intellectual capital which every company has. The progressing globalization process causes intensification of competition that requires a constant response to the changes in the organizations environment. The response to these changes are certainly modern management methods, which may include, among other things outsourcing. The growing importance of outsourcing in today's business makes it an important management tool that covers more and more non-production processes and functions which include the business processes in the organization. The aim of the paper is to indicate an importance of usage the business process outsourcing as a method in the modern management of the enterprise.

Celem pracy jest przedstawienie statystycznych aspektów zasad zarządzania jakością W.E. Deminga. Zasady te opisywane są w postaci 14. tez. Zastosowanie tych tez wspomagane odpowiednimi narzędziami i metodami, umożliwia zbudowanie kompleksowego systemu doskonalenia jakości. Doskonalenie jakości powinno obejmować nie tylko jakość produktu przedsiębiorstwa, ale każdą sferę związaną z działalnością firmy.

In this paper, Deming method is proposed for improving quality in order to achieve product or service, which can satisfy customer. Correct application of statistical methods and tools in philosophy of quality management allow an achievement of expected quality level. This paper shows the application of methods like Quality Function Deployment - QFD, Failure Mode and Effect Analysis - FMEA, Design of Experiments - DOE, Control charts. Application of 14 Deming Thesis, supported with suitable tools and methods, allows a development of complex system for improving quality. Important is, not only to take care of product quality but also concentrate on improving the quality in all fields of activities in the firm. (original abstract)

In order to remove regional economic disparities, the European Union realizes a cohesion policy. Such policy is justified economically and socially. The mechanism of the cohesion policy is based mainly on transfers and thus the essence of the cohesion policy is a redistribution of revenues in order to support the selected areas as well as unfavoured social groups. The main aim of this article is an evaluation of the role of the EU cohesion policy in the development of enterprises in the Lodz region.
