This article studies the impact of ASEA N on the bilateral exports of its 10 member countries. It reports the results of applying the gravity model to a data set covering 50 partner countries from 1967 to 2008. The study’s empirical findings show that on average ASEA N regionalism significantly increases bilateral exports. However, the results are country-specific and indicate that ASEA N seems to benefit only large economies with a long history of membership, while smaller more recent members do not show significant expansion of exports.

Przystąpienie kraju do strefy wolnego handlu, do unii celnej, a następnie do ugrupowania np. do Unii Europejskiej, wiąże się z redukcją ceł, ograniczeń ilościowych i innych w handlu, co powoduje wystąpienie w wymianie międzynarodowej dwóch efektów: kreacji i przesunięcia. W artykule zajęto się efektem kreacji handlu, polegającym m.in. na rozszerzeniu wymiany handlowej - eksportu i importu. Efekt ten dotyczy jednak nie tylko wzrostu całkowitego eksportu i importu, ale również ich wzrostu relatywnego. W artykule przeprowadzono analizę relacji importu do produktu krajowego brutto. Do analizy tej relacji, charakteryzującej otwartość gospodarki, wykorzystano funkcję popytu na import. Sformułowano hipotezę, iż efektem integracji jest trwały wzrost dochodowej elastyczności w funkcji popytu. Podano zmodyfikowaną funkcję popytu na import. Analizę oparto na próbach 1956-2003 dla znaczących partnerów handlowych Polski: Niemiec, Francji i Włoch.

Accessing the country to the free trade association, customs union and then being a member of the group of countries e.g. the European Union is connected with reduction of duties and Ńuantity reductions in trade which stimulate additional demand, reduce prices and increase of scale of economic processes. It is so-called effect of trade creation is also connected with enlargement of trade - exports and imports. It is supposed that effect of trade creation is based not only on increase of total exports and imports, but also on relative increase of exports and imports. The authors of article analyse relation of imports to the Gross Domestic Product. To analyse this relation, characterising open access economy, a function of demand on imports is used. The authors propos e a classic function of demand with function that income elasticity of imports increase logistically with an increase of level of economy integration. The analysis is conducted on the base of sample 1956-2003 for France, Germany and Italy. Modification of imports function with using a logistic function improves rigour of estimation for France and Germany and insignificantly aggravates for Italy (in comparison with classic function).
