In this paper, the author outlines the cultural and social context of Grechuta’s work, and answers the question: why research a song as a literary genre? Attention is drawn to the inequalities between certain concepts in the Polish language: song, poet, songwriter, singer and song lyrics, which is the main topic of interest in this article. The author analyzes Marek Grechuta’s book of poetry and a music album of the same title, Landscape of Hope. The author describes the role of music in the lyrics of the song. In the article, she uses a literary tool as well as elements from the theory of music and the analysis of a musical work – giving the research an interdisciplinary character. In the conclusion, she emphasizes that it is as worthwhile to focus on researching song in Poland as it is to research poetry.

Piosenki Marka Grechuty – mimo upływających lat nieustająco popularne – stanowią przykład twórczości niebagatelnej, mocno osadzonej w tradycjach kultury polskiej (m.in. ze względu na wykorzystywane w nich teksty), ale także mogą stać się potencjalnym materiałem dydaktycznym, z powodzeniem wykorzystywanym w edukacji muzycznej dzieci i młodzieży. Po pierwsze bowiem, piosenki Grechuty – będące umuzycznionymi wersjami przepięknych wierszy polskich poetów – niejednorodnie czynią bardziej atrakcyjnymi treści zawarte w tych wersach, warstwą muzyczną podkreślając ich wymowę i przekaz. Po drugie, niektóre ze swoich albumów Grechuta, bezpośrednio lub niekiedy w nieco bardziej zawoalowany sposób, kierował do młodszych odbiorców, głównie dzieci, ale też młodzieży. Po trzecie, piosenki Grechuty stanowią wdzięczny materiał do aranżacji wielogłosowych, które mogą być z powodzeniem wykonywane przez chóry – zarówno szkolne, jak i profesjonalne. Przede wszystkim jednak w twórczości Grechuty w udany sposób zostały złączone dwie stylistyki muzyczne: uznawana powszechnie za „poważną”, klasyczną oraz funkcjonującą pod szyldem „muzyki popularnej”. Wydaje się, że poprzez odwołanie się do spuścizny tego wielkiego artysty można dokonać w edukacji muzycznej rzeczy bardzo trudnej: pokusić się o wprowadzenie młodzieży w świat wyrafinowanej polskiej poezji oraz świat wielorakich brzmień instrumentalnych i wokalnych, jednocześnie nie tracąc nic z atrakcyjności – jakże lubianego przez młodych słuchaczy – repertuaru popularnego.

Marek Grechuta’s songs – still popular despite the passing years, are fine examples of great creativity, deeply embedded in the traditions of Polish culture (among others due to their lyrics). Not only do they reveal timeless values, but they also inspire new generations of composers proposing covers and arrangements of these songs thus enriching our Polish music culture. Marek Grechuta’s songs can potentially also become teaching materials in music education for children and young people. The article presents the life and career of Grechuta, indicates problems with classifying his artistic output, and highlights the importance of his albums dedicated to children and young people. Numerous covers of Grechuta’s songs are also mentioned as well as successful attempts at their polyphonic arrangements, which – as it is argued – may be treated as an interesting proposal in pedagogical work.
