The purpose of the article is to present Polish version of the Vocational Orientations Questionnaire. The Vocational Orientations Questionnaire is based on the Vocational Personality Life Style created by Holland (1985, 1997). Main psychometric parameters are presented. W-Kendall's coefficients of concordance of ratings of qualified judges indicated the internal validity of selected statements of the questionnaire. Factor analysis (N=455) identified six factors that are congruent with vocational types specified by Holland's model: realistic, investigative, artistic, enterprising, social and conventional. A confirmation analysis method (N=443) indicated, that six factors model was well adjusted to the group. The analysis of Cronbach Coefficient Alpha conformed reliability of the measure. Theoretical validity of the Vocational Orientations Questionnaire (N= 117) was estimated by analyze of the associations between the Vocational Orientations Questionnaire and personality traits and types of interests. Personality was measured by Personality Inventory NEO-FFI constructed by Costa and McCrae (Zawadzki, Strelau, Szczepaniak i Sliwinska 1998) and types of interest were measured by Interests Inventory (Frydrychowicz, Jaworska, Woynarowska i Matuszewski 1994).

As the answer to the author's question: What are the prospects for knowledge-based society in Latvia?, the article analyses one perspective of the knowledge-based society concept, namely, the role of thirst for knowledge and interests in development of research. Since the Enlightenment in the end of the 18th century, knowledge-based society has constantly been a leading motif in European history. However, it cannot be said that this motif has linearly progressed and gained power; it has faced various obstacles under the influence of various social movements which, at least from the perspective of dissemination of knowledge, can be regarded as 'regressive'. On its basics, research knowledge cannot be matched with the way in which by now societies and countries have understood and legitimised themselves (often it has been in a clearly 'mythical' dimension). This article juxtaposes thirst for knowledge and interests, as well as ways for overcoming this juxtaposition. Conglomerate of interests is a special context in which a need for knowledge-based society becomes clearly conscious.

Currently, the issue of conflict is having a great impact on social sciences. This is disclosed in research and publications. In management theory, conflict means a dispute over deficient resources or inconsistency of objectives and values. At the same time, controlling diversity and transforming conflict into cooperation are the main basis of management that helps various organizations survive and develop. Conflicts that make their appearance in the healthcare services are encoded in the scenery of contradictory interests. However, in light of process of the aging of society and problems of healthcare service financing, it should be emphasized that their significance and intensification is increasing. Research on organizations indicates four fields of conflicts-interpersonal, intergroup, inter-organizational, and conflict-tender. A typology of conflicts existing in healthcare service institutions, their roots, consequences, dynamics, and management styles are introduced in this paper. System conditions, large numbers of stakeholders, complexity of structures, relationships in healthcare service organizations, and a severe shortage of resources affect both potential and revealed conflicts in the National Health Service. This is why they are so frequent, complex, sensitive, and difficult to solve.

Z kolei panowanie nad różnorodnością i przekształcenie potencjalnego konfliktu we współpracę stanowią istotę zarządzania, pozwalającą różnym organizacjom przetrwać i rozwijać się.

The paper deals with predictive factors of the study path choice. In two data collections from 202 students of the 4th class in gymnasium we received data concerning professional interests, skills confidence, value types, personal dimensions and study path choice. There we have used logistic regression to investigate which scales of interests, skills confidence, values types and personal dimension predict choice of study path. According to the results of logistic regression, each study path is predicted by different predictive scales of independent variables. Simultaneously, our results confirmed that the most significant predictors of a study path choice are interests and skills confidence. Less significant predictors of study path choice are values types and personal dimensions.
