Artykuł stanowi historyczny przegląd rozwoju zastosowania środków technicznych przetwarzania danych w dziewięćdziesięcioletniej działalności służb statystyki publicznej w Polsce. W okresie tym zaszły znaczące zmiany — od zastosowania najprostszych przyrządów usprawniających pracę statystyków, wdrożenie maszyn licząco-analitycznych, a następnie komputerów i mikrokomputerów, sieci komputerowych oraz Internetu. Scharakteryzowano unowocześnienie metod przygotowania danych, zapoczątkowane zastosowaniem kart dziurkowanych, poprzez urządzenia do rejestracji danych na nośnikach magnetycznych, automatyczny odczyt z dokumentów papierowych, do obecnie stosowanych metod bezpośredniego przekazywania danych za pośrednictwem Internetu. Szczególną uwagę artykuł zwraca na wpływ, jaki wywierają metody informatyczne na przekształcenia zachodzące w statystyce — od automatyzacji materiałów poszczególnych badań, aż do tworzenia systemu wspólnych baz danych sterowanych podsystemem metainformacji. The article presents a historical review of development of data processing's technical devices used in ninety years of official statistical services in Poland. In this period the significant changes have occurred - from the use of the simplest tools improving statisticians work, implementation of punched cards machines, through computers and microcomputers, computer networks and Internet. Modernisation of data preparation methods have been accomplished, starting from punched cards use, through the use of magnetic tape recording devices, the use of machine-readable data from paper documents, to currently used methods of direct data transmission via Internet. Special attention was paid to the use of methods influenced on statistics transformation -from automation of individual survey data to the creation of common databases system controlled by meta-information subsystem.
