Having a place to live is one of the most important human needs. Nowadays, we are observing changes in family model and housing standard, which determine the size of households' expenditure on living conditions. More and more often people spend most of their incomes on maintaining their dwellings. The aim of the article is to present how the housing standard was changing in Poland over the years and how it influenced the volume of households' housing expenditure depending on job career and household size in Poland. Furthermore, the author presents a comparison of housing costs in Poland and other countries.

Omówiono wyniki badań ogólnoświatowych kosztów utrzymania jakie dwa razy w roku przeprowadza Economist Intelligence Unit. Badanie to ma na celu porównanie cen produktów w ponad 130 miastach całego świata, a także dostarczenie źródła obliczeń wynagrodzeń i dochodów urzędników oraz ich rodzin żyjących poza granicami swojego kraju (ważne dla ustalania poziomu wynagrodzeń urzędników organizacji międzynarodowych, żyjących i pracujących poza granicami siedzib tych organizacji). Za podstawę porównań przyjęto Nowy Jork (wskaźnik kosztów utrzymania ludności Nowego Jorku = 100). W przedstawionym rankingu Warszawa znajdowała się na 87 miejscu, za St. Petersburgiem ale przed Pragą i Budapesztem, które są stolicami krajów o dużo wyższym PKB per capita.

Autorka podejmuje próbę przedstawienia aspiracji dochodowych oraz subiektywnych odczuć dotyczących poczucia braków finansowych gospodarstw domowych w województwie małopolskim. Analizę przeprowadza na podstawie badań o charakterze ankietowym przeprowadzonych w 1999 r. na reprezentatywnej, losowo dobranej próbie, liczącej 1000 gospodarstw domowych.

The article was prepared on the basis of results of surveys carried out on a sample of 1000 households in Małopolskie Voivodship in 1999. Revenues aspirations of households were studied; gross and net indices of the aspirations were counted, next they were analysed in separate types of households divided by different criterions. On the other hand the author also tried to identify the sense of deprivation resulting from income shortage. The author counted net deprivation index per capita and analysed it like the former indices. (original abstract)
