Metaphor has been one of the most important research areas in linguistics for a few decades up to now. However, its value as a way of artistic expression in general language is indisputable, its presence in the specialised languages may be strongly questionable. How to explain the success of metaphor among the terms? What is its type and function? What is the mechanism of the meaning and the direction of metaphorisation in the language of hydrology, French and Polish? There are some questions to which the author of this paper attempted to find answers.

Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie, w jaki sposób realizowane jest przejście od intersubiektywnej koncepcji kapitału intelektualnego organizacji do zbioru cech, które mogą być przedmiotem operacjonalizacji. Przedmiotem rozważań są epistemologiczne i metodologiczne zagadnienia operacjonalizacji i pomiaru, takie jak obiektywizm, subiektywność i intersubiektywność cech oraz wpływ konstruktywizmu na operacjonalizację kapitału intelektualnego. Wskazane zostały również interpretacje metafor opisujących cechy kapitału intelektualnego. Efektem rozważań jest ogólna metodyka operacjonalizacji cech kapitału intelektualnego, w której punktem wyjścia jest analiza znaczenia metafor stosowanych w interpretacji tych cech.

The aim of the article is to present how an intersubiective concept of intellectual capital of organization can be transformed into a set of characteristics, which may be the subject of operationalization. The following epistemological and methodological aspects of operationalization and measurement of intellectual capital are taken into account: objectivity, subjectivity and intersubjectivity. Interpretations of metaphors depicting the features of intellectual capital are considered. The effect of theoretical research is a general methodology of operationalization of the features of intellectual capital, in which the starting point is the analysis of the importance of metaphors used in the interpretation of these characteristics.
