Interlibrarian Borrowings (IB) is one of the basic services allowing readers access to specialist literature inaccessible locally. In order to examine the condition of the IB in Poland in July and August 2016 there was a pilot survey conducted among 128 libraries cooperating with the Pedagogical University Main Library throughout two academic years 2014/2015- 2015/2016. The survey consisted of 17 questions. The statistics available on the interaktywnie. com website, where the survey was located, noted 95 "unique views" of the form. The surveys were filled in by 50 respondents. As results from the responses, the most important problems of the IB in Poland are non-uniform regulations, different level of using modern technologies in the realization of interlibrary orders and lack of a national system of interlibrary borrowings. The attempt to create such a system based on the NUKAT catalogue has not yet been realized. The Academica, working since 2014, did not revolutionize the system in Poland due to its numerous limitations. The survey results indicate that there is a need for action leading to integrating the librarian society dealing with IB.

The article presents the initial access and input of the University Library to the Subject Heading Authority File, a controlled keyword descriptor system used for subject indexing in library catalogues, and then to the Central NUKAT Catalogue. The authors discuss procedures related to co-cataloguing within this system. A particular attention is given to the problems of formal and subject processing of documents. Solutions and arrangements worked out at the Library and aimed at streamlining the work of cataloguers are presented as well as the Library’s participation in projects and training sessions organized by NUKAT . Additionally, KABA, the subject heading language used to describe publication subjects in Polish academic libraries, originated in the 1990s, is presented. The present article summarises the ten years of active cooperation with NUKAT , but also includes information on preparations and relevant works prior to its actual implementation.

W artykule przedstawiono proces przystąpienia Biblioteki Uniwersyteckiej w Poznaniu do współtworzenia Centralnej Kartoteki Haseł Wzorcowych, a potem katalogu centralnego NUKAT . Autorki omówiły procedury związane ze współkatalogowaniem. Szczególną uwagę poświęciły zagadnieniom opracowania formalnego i rzeczowego dokumentów. Zaprezentowały rozwiązania i ustalenia wewnętrzne Biblioteki Uniwersyteckiej usprawniające pracę katalogerów oraz jej udział w projektach i szkoleniach organizowanych przez NUKAT. Zaprezentowano również jhp KABA powstały w latach 90. XX wieku, służący do opracowania przedmiotowego zbiorów w polskich bibliotekach akademickich. Artykuł podsumowuje dziesięć lat czynnej współpracy z NUKAT -em, ale stanowi również o okresie przygotowania do jej wdrożenia.

This article attempts to sum up the research conducted in the Jagiellonian Library in connection with its participation in the project entitled “NUKAT – The Highway of Digital Information”, executed between 2009 and 2012 by the University Library in Warsaw. Besides introducing the concepts, the general premises of the project and the mandatory procedures as well as presenting particular stages of merging data, this article also describes the process of merging the Computer Catalogue of the Collections of the Jagiellonian University Libraries Collections with the National Union Catalogue NUKAT, including the preliminary, administrative and follow-up work that was done in the Jagiellonian Library in connection with this enterprise. The aim of this article is to give a broad outline of this project as well as to present the results of an analysis performed on a control group of 5500 merged records in connection with some abnormalities that had been detected. This analysis was done on the basis of reports additionally prepared by the NUKAT Centre at the request of the Jagiellonian Library during the course of the project as well as after particular stages of merging catalogues were finished. The article is summed up by the conclusions and the evaluation of the project which are based on the control material and on the data gathered by the author while she was coordinating the project.

Cel: Wydawnictwa bibliofilskie cechują się nieprzeciętnymi walorami estetycznymi. W powstawaniu współczesnych polskich edycji bibliofilskich znaczący jest udział Włodzimierza Rudnickiego. Choć druki bibliofilskie podlegają przepisom o egzemplarzu obowiązkowym, to są słabo obecne w zbiorach bibliotecznych. Metoda: Przy użyciu metod analityczno-opisowej i historyczno-artystycznej ukazano dorobek projektancki W. Rudnickiego. Materiał statystyczny zebrano w drodze przeszukiwania baz katalogowych; następnie poddano go analizie. Wnioski: Zasoby bibliotek są dalece niekompletne w segmencie wydawnictw bibliofilskich, co nie tylko ogranicza dostęp dzisiejszym czytelnikom, ale jest uszczerbkiem w materiale archiwalnym, zachowywanym dla przyszłych pokoleń. Konieczne jest poszukiwanie rozwiązań mających na celu przeciwdziałanie temu zjawisku.

Aim: Bibliophile publications are characterized by extraordinary aesthetic values. Włodzimierz Rudnicki's contribution to the creation of contemporary Polish bibliophile editions is significant. Although bibliophilic prints are subject to compulsory copy regulations, they are scarcely present in library collections. Research method: Using the analytical, descriptive and historical-artistic methods, Rudnicki's design output was shown. Statistical material was collected by searching catalogue databases; then it was analyzed. Results/Conclusions: Library resources are incomplete as far as the bibliophile publishing segment is concerned, which not only limits access to them, but it also constitutes a damage to archival material, preserved for future generations. To counteract this phenomenon, librarians must take other steps that go beyond the current legal system.

These: Die bibliophilen Veröffentlichungen zeichnen sich durch einen hervorragenden ästhetischen Wert. An der Entstehung der modernen polnischen bibliophilen Editionen nimmt größtenteils Włodzimierz Rudnicki teil. Obwohl die bibliophilen Drucke als Pflichtexemplar zu betrachten sind, sind sie in den Bibliotheksbeständen seltener vertreten. Forschungsmethode: Mithilfe von analytisch-beschreibenden und historisch-künstlerischen Methoden schilderte man das Schaffen W. Rudnickis. Das statistische Material sammelte man während der Recherche in den Katalogdatenbanken. Anschließend wurde es analysiert. Ergebnisse/Schlussfolgerungen: Die Bibliotheksbestände im Bereich der bibliophilen Veröffentlichungen sind unvollständig, was nicht nur den Zugang der heutigen Benutzer zu ihnen einschränkt, sondern sich auch auf das Archivmaterial, das für die nächstkommenden Generationen aufbewahrt wird, negativ auswirkt. Um dieser Erscheinung vorzubeugen, müssen die Bibliothekare nach anderen Lösungen jenseits des derzeitigen Rechtssystems suchen.

The paper attempts to emphasise the significance of using authority files in libraries. In the study the process of integration of local authority files with central files run by the NUKAT Centre was analysed. W opracowaniu poddano analizie proces integracji lokalnych kartotek wzorcowych z kartotekami centralnymi prowadzonymi przez Centrum NUKAT. Omówienia dokonano na przykładzie integracji kartotek w bibliotece uczelnianej Państwowej Wyższej Szkoły Zawodowej w Tarnowie. Artykuł przedstawia stosunkowo prostą i tanią metodę skracania indeksów rzeczowych w katalogach bibliotecznych. Polega ona na przyjęciu zestawu kilkudziesięciu pojęć ogólnych - charakteryzujących się niską barierą świadomości semantycznej. Wokół tych słów budowane są subindeksy złożone ze słów występujących w opisach zawierających dane pojęcie ogólne. Skuteczność metody badano, analizując zawartość fragmentów indeksów przedmiotowych centralnego katalogu bibliotek polskich NUKAT, Biblioteki Uniwersyteckiej w Poznaniu i Biblioteki Kongresu. Metoda ta w porównaniu z metodą języka haseł przedmiotowych średnio trzykrotnie skraca długość indeksu i znacznie ułatwia czytelnikowi rozeznanie w użytym przez katalogera słownictwie. Została opracowana dla potrzeb Wielkopolskiej Biblioteki Cyfrowej i prawdopodobnie będzie stosowana we wszystkich regionalnych bibliotekach cyfrowych w Polsce.

This paper presents a relatively simple and cheap method for shortening the subject indexes in library catalogues. The method involves taking a set of several dozen general concepts, characterized by a low semantic awareness barrier. Built around these words are subindexes made up of the words which appear in descriptions containing a particular general concept. The effectiveness of the method was studied by analyzing the content of fragments of subject indexes of the NUKAT central catalogue of Polish libraries, the University Library in Poznań and the Library of Congress. Compared with the subject headings language method, this method reduces the length of an index by an average of two-thirds, and makes it significantly easier for readers to navigate the vocabulary used by the cataloger. This method has been developed for the needs of Digital Library of Wielkopolska, and will probably be used in all regional digital libraries in Poland.
