Włączenie Polski do struktur unijnego rynku wymaga dostosowania produkcji mleczarskiej do wymogów wspólnej polityki rolnej. Ponadto polscy producenci muszą liczyć się z konkurencją zagraniczną. W artykule porównano mleczarstwo polskie i innych krajów UE pod kątem bazy surowcowej, potencjału przetwórczego i koncentracji przetwórstwa mleka, sprzedaży i jakości mleka, a także spożycia mleka i jego przetworów.

The author of article presented a synthetic description of Polish milk sector against a background of the European countries. She analysed a production potential, degree of concentration of milk manufacturing, milk consumption and milk preserves. The author made a categorisation of plants, against a background of regions of Poland, taking into consideration hygienic and veterinary requirements. (original abstract)
