Rosario Ferré died on February 18, 2016 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, leaving behind a valuable fictional production and influential critical essays about her own creative writing process as well as on Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, Felisberto Hernández, and Julio Cortázar. One day later after the writer’s death, the world of literature lost also two of its most celebrated novelists, Harper Lee, the Pulitzer award winner and author of To Kill a Mockingbird, (1960) and Umberto Eco, author of The Name of the Rose (1980).

Rosario Ferré zmarła 18 lutego 2016 roku w San Juan w Portoryko pozostawiwszy po sobie spuściznę powieściową oraz eseje krytyczne dotyczące procesu twórczego pisarza, a także pism Sor Juany Inés de la Cruz, Felisberto Hernandeza i Julio Cortazara. W dzień po śmierci Ferré, świat literatury poniósł kolejną strate żegnający zmarłych dwoje znakomitych pisarzy, nagrodzoną nagrodą Pulitzera Harper Lee, autorkę słynnej powieści Zabić drozda (1960) oraz Umberto Eco, autora uznawanej za arcydzieło powieści Imię Róży (1980).

Borders and Boundaries, Real and Symbolic: The Case of Puerto RicoThe aim of this article is to outline the real and symbolic borders and boundaries, of geographical, political, cultural and racial nature, in the history and present of Puerto Rico, and their role in shaping and transforming the Puerto Rican identity. The main part of the article focuses on the borders and boundaries between Puerto Rico and the United States. The second part looks at the lines dividing the population in the island and the Puerto Rican diaspora in the US. Granice rzeczywiste i symboliczne. Przypadek PortorykoCelem artykułu jest zarysowanie rzeczywistych i symbolicznych granic, geograficznych, politycznych, rasowych i kulturowych, wpisujących się w historię i współczesność Portoryko oraz ich roli w kształtowaniu się i przekształcaniu tożsamości portorykańskiej. Główna część artykułu skupia się na granicach biegnących między Portoryko a Stanami Zjednoczonymi. W drugiej części wskazano linie podziału powstałe między mieszkańcami wyspy a diasporą portorykańską w USA.

El trabajo aborda la relación entre la música popular y la vida sociopolítica a través de un estudio comparativo de dos géneros musicales: el reggaetón y el disco polo. Basándose en el análisis de fuentes primarias como letras de canciones, videoclips, así como fuentes secundarias (artículos científicos), se presentan diferencias y similitudes en características de ambos géneros, centrándose en las funciones sociales. Se analizan acontecimientos concretos de la vida sociopolítica de Puerto Rico y Polonia que fueron acompañados por el uso de canciones de ambos géneros. Este análisis sirve para reflexionar sobre el potencial de la música popular para contribuir al cambio social y político.
