(fragment tekstu)

Sustainable development is one of the major challenges of the modern world. Its implementation should be monitored at every level of management, with particular emphasis on monitoring the implementation of this concept at the local level (gminas and powiats) and regional (voivodships). The basic assessing tool are indicators to provide a statistical picture of a given territorial unit. Within the Local Data Bank (BDL) a universal module was created, which is designed to monitor sustainable development at a level lower than the country. The reference point were indices developed by the Eurostat. Module developed in the BDL is not a set of monitoring a specific strategy development at local and regional level but is a basic set of indicators for analysis of sustainable development and allows to evaluate and compare local government units. Voivodship self-government in Poland plays an important role in the programming and carrying out voivodship development policy. The government prepares various documents, including regional development strategies and regional operational programmes to ensure sustainable development. Simultaneously these documents constitute a basis for making European funds available. Preparation of well-thought-out, complete, and coherent documents, as well as the monitoring their implementation require using figures describing different social and economic phenomena. A significant number of these figures comes from the public statistics system. The necessity of making use of hard data is of special importance right now, as the European Union both requires the presentation of progress in the efficiency of using European funds within the sustainable policy framework and makes future fund transfers dependent on the progress in achieving previously-set development goals. The aim of the article is to present the scope and the way of using statistical data in development documents on the basis of certain strategies and programmes from a Podlaskie voivodship area. In the recent years, one can observe a growing interest in the creativity and its role in local and regional development. Creative businesses, industries, cities or regions seem to be not only a new trend but simply a fashion among both researchers and policy makers. Also the city of Łódź did not resist the desire to base a development on creative industries. Thus, in 2011, a strategy of building a brand of creative city was launched. After two years, a time for monitoring the first effects of the strategy has come. This paper is a description of the results of a interview-based research conducted among the dwellers of agglomeration of Łódź, aiming at verification of the reconcilability of new city brand and thus - an effectiveness and efficacy of this new direction of promoting the city of Łódź.

The polish regional strategies present a problem of transport development in the regions. Although plans for transport systems in most provinces are not treated as a priority, it can positively assess of their visibility. The strategies differ in the complexity of the approach to the transport system (defined as a set of subsystems). They contain incentives to concentrate on improving transport accessibility, although at the risk of neglecting the improvement of the competitiveness of transport and the sustainability of its development. A characteristic is also the focus of attention on the development of road and air infrastructure.
