About the Quotation in the Warsaw Dictionary

100%
EN
One of the main criticism concerning the 'Warsaw Dictionary' was the lack of location of quotations that diminished its scientific value. The Dictionary includes only list of authors of quotes composition (or sometimes titles of relics), with no more bibliographic information. As a result the verification of illustrated material is impossible. The main aim of this article is to analyse almost 300 quotations located in the Dictionary from the works of Mickiewicz, Sienkiewicz, Slowacki, Krasinski, Kochanowski and others. The study consisted in finding sources of internet versions of works, from which the examples were selected and next comparing the quotations from the Dictionary with the basic texts. In a tested material changes in an area of orthography, morphology, syntax and lexic are separated. The modifications very often are not signaled. On the basis of a sample one can say that , similarly to the Linde's Dictionary, majority of quotations has, as regards their syntax, a simple and closed structure. In the light of testing material one can see the large conformity of quotations with the original. One of the effect of the analysis might be a partial reconstruction of list of sources of the Warsaw Dictionary.
