Wikis, being one of the popular Web 2.0 tools, have impacted students’ engagement and performance particularly in the aspects of second and foreign language learning. While an increasing number of studies have focused on the effectiveness of wiki in improving students’ writing skills, this study was conducted to examine the attitudinal factors that influence English as a Second Language (ESL) students’ group collaboration in using wikis for a writing task that was divided into three phases: pre-writing, individual-construction, joint-constructions. Data collected from these students after completing this task was analyzed based on three attitudinal aspects: motivation, perceived usefulness, and perceived ease of use. The findings reveal high mean scores for all aspects. Further multiple regression analysis reveals that motivation is the most important factor associated with group collaboration, indicating the need to boost students’ motivation to encourage effective collaboration in completing wiki writing tasks.

This paper aims to examine the challenges of and perceptions about promoting students’ learning, communication, and interaction via the Wiki tool in the blackboard platform. Wiki intends to sustain and advance students’ professional and personal skills, the former ones including reading, writing, research, information, critical thinking, decision making, technology, digital oral presentation, drawing (i.e. concept maps), teamwork, and languages, and the latter ones including motivation, leadership, negotiation, communication, problem solving, time management, reflection, self-management, and self-appraisal. Additionally, integrating Wiki in teaching and learning will improve students’ work performance, productivity, and self-confidence, as these skills are needed for not only the current study, but also the workplace in the future. Additionally, using this tool in teaching and learning, especially in the higher education, can bring some challenges to the lecturer and students, particularly in the presentation and marking. This paper will discuss the Wiki implementation in the postgraduate unit at an Australian university. The study results confirmed that using Wiki in the postgraduate unit at an Australian university enhanced students’ personal and professional skills; in addition, students learned and absorbed the new concepts and cutting-edge-knowledge of the ITS65 unit, i.e. sustainability and Green IT.

This paper presents a general view of a proposal for a digital reinterpretation of a collection of scientific instruments belonging to the Physics Cabinet of the Science Museum of the University of Coimbra. In this cataloging, the local and global aspects of each instrument are inventoried and represented by a semantic network of concepts, facts, ideas, and narratives, resulting in a knowledge base about scientific physics instruments. This knowledge base will be made available to students, researchers, and the general public through a mobile phone application. The article also offers a review of the transformations of the conceptual models of material culture studies related to scientific instruments and adds some contributions to this field of study.
