The text presents an approach which bases on participant observation, but is significantly more intensive and considerably interferes in peoples’ everyday life. The observer becomes a “shadow” of the observed people and accompanies them in everyday activities. This technique was crucial for the research made by the author and concerning students’ lifestyles, commissioned by Sustainable Lifestyle Research Center, carried out by the group of students from the University of Łódź. The text describes goals and results of the project and aims to show briefly the problems and chances of using shadowing tools in anthropological work.

In recent years the process of entering adulthood underwent multiple social changes and faced the necessity of redefinition. The article presents an andragogic reflection on the contemporary world of young adults presented in the series “Girls”. The text includes the description of popular culture as a space for education and socialisation and sources of knowledge about society. Then, the period ofearly adulthood as a concept used both in psychological and andragogic literature was characterised. Also the place of the “Girls” series in the contemporary and cultural debate was presented. The attempt of analysing the social life spaces of young adults presented in the series enabled the interpretation of the world of contemporary young adults. I pinpointed differences that took place in the way of comprehending adulthood and development tasks specific for that period in the contemporary generation of young adults.

W ostatnich latach proces wchodzenia w dorosłość uległ wielu społecznym przemianom i stanął wobec konieczności redefinicji.

According to predictions by the Central Statistical Office of Poland, the number of people in the mobility age group (18–44) in Poland will be slightly more than 30 percent by 2035, where the figure for 2011 was about 40 percent of the Polish population. Employees will be more and more difficult to find and potential employment reserves shall be found among the population of people in the post–mobility age group. This is why it is so important to take into consideration the age of workers when developing human resource management policy. Research shows that interest in the diversity management function in Polish enterprises is usually higher at the declarative level than in the real–world organization. However, HR professionals and managers are sure about the fact that the issue of employee age is important in the functioning of the organization as well as for them. Research has also quantified the manner in which HR professionals and leaders perceive diversity in terms of age groups and has verified whether they see benefits to their organization resulting from the merging of different generations in the workplace. Also investigated was knowledge on factors motivating individual generations. These results demonstrate just how necessary this is in view of the changes that will soon confront each and every employer.

Zgodnie z prognozami GUS-u, w 2035 r. liczba osób w wieku mobilnym (18–44 lata) w Polsce wyniesie nieco ponad 30%, podczas gdy w 2011 r. stanowiła ona 40% ludności. O pracowników będzie coraz trudniej, a potencjalne rezerwy zatrudnienia tkwić będą w populacji osób w wieku niemobilnym. Jest niezwykle istotne, by uwzględniać tematykę wieku pracowników w polityce zarządzania zasobami ludzkimi.

Contemporary professional careers are characterized by being dynamic, complex and taking different courses, over which the individual usually has no influence at all. In spite of that, it is the individual that is being perceived as responsible for their planning and development, that is for their “management”. In reference to the issues of the multi-dimensional character of professional careers, determined by both internal and structural factors, this article considers the lack of social orientation towards career, which is to be observed among the representatives of the Y and NEET generations.
