Human dignity has a universal, supracultural and supranational character. Everyone should be treated with due dignity from birth to death. Respect for ancestor worship, which is part of human life, is inherently related to human dignity. The purpose of the article is to present the importance of human dignity in the contextof respect for the worship of ancestors of representatives of different cultures.

Godność ludzka ma uniwersalny, ponadkulturowy i ponadnarodowy charakter. Każdy człowiek od chwili narodzin aż do momentu śmierci powinien być traktowany z należytą godnością. Poszanowanie kultu przodków, stanowiące element ludzkiego życia w inherentny sposób wiąże się z godnością człowieka. Celem artykułu jest zaprezentowanie znaczenia godności ludzkiej w kontekście poszanowania kultu przodków przedstawicieliróżnych kultur.

The belief of ancestor worship is one of the ancient traditions of the Vietnamese which is present in almost every activity of ethnic culture. Through time, ancestor worship has still a lasting vitality in the Vietnamese mind and is respected by people although the current market economy has had an impact on this belief. Thus, we find the core values of the ancestor worship tradition in the family of Vietnam today that are still conserved by each person and each family.

Wiara w kult przodków to jedna ze starożytnych tradycji wietnamskich, wciąż obecna w niemal w każdym działaniu kultury etnicznej. Mimo upływu czasu kult przodków wciąż żyje w wietnamskich umysłach i jest przez ludzi respektowany, chociaż obecna gospodarka rynkowa miała na niego wpływ. Odnajdujemy zatem w wietnamskich rodach podstawowe wartości tradycji czczenia przodków, które są wciąż chronione przez każdą osobę i każdą rodzinę.

Lista synowskich obowiązków stanowi unikatowy dla literatury starożytnego Bliskiego Wschodu passus, w poemacie o Danilu i Aqhacie dodatkowo podkreślony przez jego czterokrotne powtórzenie w bliskim sąsiedztwie. To dlatego lista przyciągała i ciągle przyciąga uwagę badaczy, których interesuje zwłaszcza mądrościowy charakter wykazu synowskich powinności, kult przodków obecny w Ugarit i na starożytnym Wschodzie, rytuał rodzinny i obowiązki dzieci względem rodziców, a także Sitz im Leben listy, uważanej przez niektórych za część większej i zupełnie niezależnej od eposu całości, która to część została włączona do tekstu Aqhata z uwagi luźne skojarzenie z tematyką syna – dziedzica. Jako że dotychczasowe próby translacyjne i interpretacyjne wydają się niewystarczające, w artykule zaproponowano nowy przekład i nową próbę naświetlenia znaczenia i kontekstu tak poszczególnych obowiązków, jak i całej listy.

The list of filial duties from the Aqhatu story constitutes a passage unique to the literature of the ancient Near East, emphasized in the epic by its fourfold repetition in close proximity. This is why the list has attracted much attention of scholars, who are particularly interested in the wisdom nature of the list, the ancestor worship in Ugarit and in the Ancient East, the family ritual and the responsibilities of children towards their parents, as well as the Sitz im Leben of the list, considered by some to be part of a larger and independent work, which has been included in the Aqhatu story because of loose connections with the topic of son and heir. As the current translation and interpretation efforts seem insufficient, the article proposes a new translation and a new attempt to highlight the meaning and the context of both individual duties and the entire list.
