the doorstep of the fundamental reforms, accentuating the development of psychosocial qualities of all stakeholders engaged in education as determinants of a successful educational process. The narrative review focuses on research studies conducted since 2001, based on the paradigm of attachment and motivational theories of self-determination. Paper provides an overview of how the concept of school achievement and the individual key constructs of the teacher-student relationship are operationalized (closeness, conflict, relatedness, autonomy support, structure). It discusses main conclusions of the most significant studies in this area, as well as some inconsistent results and methodological problems. After rigorous impact and content selection, the review includes 17 empirical studies. Finally, specific current research challenges in the field are considered.

The article presents an overview of research on transitions of transgender parents. We performed an analysis of studies which show a perspective of a child experiencing the transition of his or her parents. The results show how important it is to meet the emotional needs of the child, especially the need to maintain a secure and stable relationship with both parents in a situation of experiencing one parent’s transition and separation of parents (divorce). The results are presented and interpreted in the light of the attachment theory of John Bowlby and the concept of the five emotional needs derived from the theoretical basis of schema therapy.

Aim. The aim of this paper is to theoretically substantiate individual’s attachment as a need for ontological security, to outline the educational aspects of supporting the ontological security, and to empirically investigate the attachment styles and coping strategies of individuals in early and middle adulthood. Methods. The article is based on an extensive review of the literature, which involves the use of such methods as interpretation (of previously unexplained psychological aspects of ontological security) and comparative analysis (of the views of Ronald Laing and family psychotherapists). An empirical study was conducted. The study group consisted of 90 persons: 45 male and 45 female, at the age of early and middle adulthood. The research used a number of psychological methods to study different types of attachments, relationships, personality traits and coping strategies that help overcome ontological insecurity. The method of statistical and mathematical analysis of results was also applied. Results. Ontological security is a marker of positive types of attachment. Our empirical research has shown that people with anxious attachment more often overcome ontological insecurity by positively rethinking the problem, which can lead to an underestimation of the possibilities of its effective solution. People with a reliable attachment are ontologically secure due to mutual trust, responsibility, problem analysis and planning, which eliminate escape strategies and problem avoidance. Conclusions. Ontological security-insecurity manifests itself in different types of attachments and corresponding coping strategies. The results showed the importance of developing and adapting the methodology of ontological protection for Ukrainian socio-cultural realities. This technique is being prepared to be operationalized with the scales of psychological techniques used in this study.

The study was aimed to determine the role of attachment bond in emotional functioning in alexithy-mia and emotional processing in foster care alumni. The participants with experience of personal rejection – adult foster care alumni during the transition from foster care to adulthood (N = 29) and persons without such experience (N = 32) took part in the study. The Experiences in Close Relation-ships Scale, Toronto Alexithymia Scale and Emotional Processing Scale were used. Results present that insecure pattern of attachment occurs with alexithymia in ineffective emotional processing. We confront the results with the construct of emotion representations as the key to comprehend observed deficits in emotional functioning.

Over the past two decades there has been a growing body of evidence, clinical and anecdotal, that equine-facilitated therapy (EFT) is a powerful tool for social workers and mental health clinicians. Recent research studies have begun to identify, name, and explain the mechanisms of EFT as a treatment tool for individual clients. However, EFT lacks a unified theoretical foundation; many studies lack an explicit theory altogether. Strong empirical support begins with a strong theoretical foundation, the research field lacks a unified voice for the scientific value of EFT. Attachment theory can guide the understanding of how EFT operates and can support more rigorous inquiry to evaluate its effect in mental health treatment. This article reviews the human-horse relationship in the context of attachment theory and concludes with a recommendation for research to strengthen the empirical base of EFT in social work practice.

This paper presents theoretical framework of mother’s caregiving system, that is the goal-corrected behavioral system reciprocal to attachment. It is guided by mental representations of self as a caregiver, child as an object of protection and mutual relation. Caregiving representational system is influenced by the adult’s history of attachment and current experiences with the child, his/her characteristics and social-contextual factors. Development of the caregiving system from childhood to adulthood, and particularly during transition to parenthood, is presented.

As a chronic condition, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) significantly reduces the quality of life of young working age population. The etiopathogenesis of IBD is multifactorial, combining several genetic and environmental factors. Psychosocial aspects that affect the progress of the disease and may have therapeutic effects on the disease are currently being extensively studied, and a clear conceptual approach to their role in IBD management has yet to be identified. The attachment theory states that a relation to a primary caregiver is critical to forming relations with others and to viewing the world around us. A sense of security seems to protect us against psychological disorders and somatic diseases. The paper presented is a synthesis of previous studies dealing with individual expressions of the attachment theory and their effect on the progress and the management of the disease, offering a potential pathogenetic mechanism of the attachment with respect to the origin and development of IBD.

The paper first sketches a psychological reconstruction of the logic of Darwin’s discovery. Characteristic mental analogies can be revealed in the structure of the theory with the emphasis on small changes and constant change replacing catastrophes. Another important aspect is the motivating forces in the personality of Darwin and their relationship to his personal fate. From a perspective of present day psychology, Darwin was an extreme systematizer. One could place him along the much debated autism continuum exactly due to his taxonomic passion. At the same time, the emphasis on constant change connects the taxonomy with dynamicity. The paper also touches upon the rival theories of Darwin’s illness. It concentrates on the theory of Bowlby emphasizing the role of attachment dramas in intellectual achievements of the 19th century.

Video-feedback Intervention to promote Positive Parenting and Sensitive Discipline (VIPP-SD) is a therapeutic intervention based on video-feedback which aims to support positive parenting and sensitive parental discipline. It is a part of evidence-based therapeutic interventions, which means that the effectiveness of the training has been confirmedin rigorously planned and carried out studies of both the general population and various clinical groups. The theoretical framework for VIPP-SD is attachment theory and coercion theory. The basic principle of intervention is referring to family resources in the therapeutic work, primarily in situations in which the correct course of a child’s development can be disturbed by both biological and environmental factors. The article presents the aspects of the application of VIPP-SD in the following clinical groups: families with children at risk of improper development, families in which the functioning of parents creates the development risk for children, and the family environment as a risk factor for children’s development.

The present study verifies in the Polish cultural context results of previously conducted studies in links between the attachment quality and the quality of parental care. Measures of insecure childhood attachment styles to both parents, secure and insecure adolescent attachment styles, along with measures of parental attitudes of both parents were completed by a sample of 85 secondary school students (54 girls and 31 boys). Insecure (avoidant and anxious / ambivalent) childhood attachment styles to mother correlated positively with rejecting and demanding maternal attitudes and negatively with loving, protecting and casual attitude. The same kind of links was observed: a) between insecure childhood attachment styles to father and paternal attitudes; b) between insecure adolescent attachment styles and parental attitudes of both parents. Secure adolescent attachment style correlated positively with loving, protecting and casual parental attitudes of both parents and negatively with rejecting and demanding attitudes. These results support the results obtained in studies conducted mainly in the Anglo-Saxon cultural context where similar links between attachment quality and quality of parental care were found.

Polish education and rehabilitation of persons with intellectual disabilities very often neglects the most crucial aspect of being with them, i.e. relationship. The emancipation processes taking place in Polish education and rehabilitation of people with intellectual disabilities have contributed to the gradual emergence of the relational paradigm, the theoretical basis of which constitute the theory of attachment, theory of intersubjectivity and mentalization. The article will attempt to conceptualize the relational paradigm in the field of education and rehabilitation of people with intellectual disabilities. Subsequently, it will present the concepts essential for the relational paradigm: the conceptual apparatus, theories providing its theoretical basis (attachment theory, theory of intersubjectivity). The article will conclude with a preliminary attempt to conceptualize the relational paradigm.

This review summarized theoretical explanations on attachment hierarchy. Drawing upon the evolutionary perspective, during emergency situations for self and attachment figures, people activate their behaviors to seek closeness and emotional support toward their attachment figures who are the caregivers in infancy and young childhood and the romantic partner in older childhood and beyond. Although empirical studies use different methods between studies for infants and young children and studies for older children and beyond (observational and self-report methods, respectively), this theoretical idea has been supported consistently from infancy to adulthood. In addition, authors highlighted that attachment hierarchy is a timely research topic in attachment research, and Czech studies have been contributing to the research field. Specifically, authors demonstrated that young adults’ romantic preferences were interdependent with their friend preferences but not with their parental preferences. Czech students’ theses demonstrated unique attachment hierarchies in special populations, employing samples of participants with life-threatening jobs, older adults, and young adults with drug problems. Finally, authors focused on future research directions. There is only a limited number of studies exploring subcategories of attachment hierarchy, roles of friends during the transition from childhood to adulthood, and outcomes of deviation from normative patterns of attachment hierarchy development.

Závěrečné práce českých studentů přinesly zjištění týkající se hierarchie citové vazby u specifických populací s využitím vzorků účastníků vykonávajících vysoce riziková povolání, starších dospělých a mladých drogově závislých dospělých.

Wyniki przedstawiono i zinterpretowano w świetle teorii przywiązania Johna Bowlby’ego i koncepcji pięciu potrzeb emocjonalnych wywodzących się z podstaw teoretycznych terapii schematu.
