The aim of this article is to scrutinise the relationship between the moral attitude of an entrepreneur and their possibility to gain a competitive advantage. This declaration leads to the following question: Whether the everyday practice confirms or denies the economic usefulness ofthe postulate of corporate social responsibility. On the one hand, moral desertion is obviously profitable (also in an economic sense). Partners of the deserter, in most cases, are not able to avoid (unexpected and expansive) the consequences of this new attitude towards them. On the other hand, this strategy – in the long run – is unlikely to be profitable. The former victims adjust to their new circumstances and become ready to face the attack. Therefore corporate social responsibility, in the final calculation, should be taken as the only way to protect an active participant of the market against the temptation to neglect his obligation towards people, who can punish or reward him (as stakeholders or whistleblowers).

The need for facing up the competitors and the wish to build the competitive advantage on the market contribute to enterprises' expansion on foreign markets. Motives lying behind the enterprise management decision when starting expansion abroad vary and they depend on an individual market situation of the enterprise. They can also evolve in time. The decision about enterprise expansion may be dictated by the will to make advantage of chances which appear on the market. Nevertheless, it also happens that adverse conditions of the enterprise external environment force its internationalization. Motives of foreign expansion can be classified in many ways. This article describes four main groups of motives: market, costs-related, supplies and strategic ones. The second part of this paper analyses changes in enterprises’ motives of expansion during the global financial and economic crisis.

Theoretical background: Progressive digitalization fundamentally changes companies’ strategies, business models, and operational activities directed to the achievement of sustainable competitive advantage and maximization of long-term company value. The recent COVID-19 pandemic has spurred even further an unprecedented acceleration in the development of digitalization processes in virtually all areas of the economy. The changed competitive reality requires modification of existing and development of new rules and tools of strategic management that will help contemporary companies to cope with the challenges associated with the new competitive landscape. The views on the ways of building a competitive advantage dominating in the literature on the subject become questionable in the light of changes related to the digitalization of the economy. In this context, the issue of defining the term “competitive advantage” in new conditions and its sources, first of all, the role of knowledge in shaping it, is of particular importance. Purpose of the article: This article aims to define sustainable competitive advantage and identify its sources in the digital economy. It also refers to the issue of new tools and areas of strategic analysis that companies should implement to formulate their strategies. Research methods: The considerations in the article are presented on the background of the extensive integrative literature review. The article uses the method of critical analysis and synthesis of opinions of other authors as well as logical inference. Main findings: The progressive digitalization of the economy fundamentally changes how modern organizations pursue competitive advantage as part of the implemented strategy. A sustainable competitive advantage should be equated with creating and capturing value rather than beating competitors. A prerequisite for sustainable competitive advantage is the development and application of innovative knowledge that creates essential value for customers in the long term. Strategic analysis in the digital age should embrace consumer needs, the organization’s network connections and data flow, the structure of platforms and digital ecosystems, the revenue streams in networks, the types of a network, and learning effects.

The paper is aimed at the analysis of the concept of firm’s embeddedness and its influence on firm’s competitive advantage in the context of resource-based view of a firm, business networks theory, and international business theories. Embeddedness is characterized by the number of functional areas of the firm involved with external partners and the number of these partners, intensity and sustainability of linkages, and interdependence of relationships’ actors. The right level of embedding is crucial for augmenting and exploitation of the knowledge available to the firm. Therefore, embeddedness has been recognized as a significant determinant of firm’s sustainable competitive advantage in international markets. The paper discusses the specific issues related to relationship management, incl. those connected with the level and nature of embeddedness in transnational corporations (TNC). Analysis covers both the internal embeddedness, i.e. in linkages within the internal TNC network, and the external embeddedness, i.e. in relationships of headquarters or foreign subsidiaries with independent actors in a host country.

The paper deals with the issue of enterprise elasticity. In economic theory, elasticity is the ability of an organization to identify and take advantage of available opportunities to minimize or reduce market threats. The elasticity of an organization is a desirable feature in a turbulent environment. The elasticity of a business enables it to optimally adapt itself to market conditions. This adaptation involves an optimal time frame and factors influencing the company’s capabilities. An enterprise’s elasticity can be looked at as a configuration of partial elasticities. The authors examine the relationship between the elasticity of an organization as a whole and the elasticity of its individual resources. The paper describes the results of research into selected aspects of elasticity in production, services, deliveries, sales, human and financial resources management, and organizational structures. To attain their goal, the authors carried out empirical studies among 34 businesses. The collected data allowed them to formulate conclusions about the decomposition of enterprise elasticity. As part of the study, the authors identified seven partial elasticities and ranked them on the basis of a statistical analysis.

The aim of this article is to recognize the implications of various types of environmental dynamism for the effects of operational and dynamical capabilities. The research method used is the critical analysis of literature in the field of strategic management. The research findings in the literature, on the operational effects and dynamic capabilities in the context of environmental dynamism were properly structured in the article. There were controversial research findings on environmental dynamism and its determining of the effects of operational and dynamic capabilities. The results indicate that operational and dynamic capabilities have different performance effects in high-dynamic and low-dynamic environments. The discussion on operational effects and dynamic capabilities in different market conditions still requires better theorizing and empirical research on the implications of market dynamism. The recommendations of the managers are directed at the understanding of the nature of the environment, which is crucial for the success of the implementation of new practices in the company.

Omnipresent globalization engulfs more and more areas of life, which is why one of the most important processes in today's economy is shaping the so-called global village. Both globalization and the consequent internationalization constitute some of the biggest challenges for Polish companies. In addition, the intensity of competitive businesses in the global market forces companies to seek competitive advantages and improve their abilities in the process. The article contains the results of empirical research conducted in the years 2010-2011 in Greater Poland as part of the project titled "Determinants of competitive advantage of Greater Poland's food processing companies in the international market." This paper also contains data from both theoretical and empirical evidence on building competitive advantage in international markets provided by the analyzed group of internationalized SMEs. The aim of this study is to identify the factors determining the formation of competitive advantage of food processing companies from Greater Poland, which in turn contributed to the internationalization of those businesses. Secondary sources were used in pursuing the goal - theoretical implications were based on studies of literature, and they were verified by surveys. In addition, the following methods were used: description, visualization and statistical techniques. The time range of the undertaken work covers the years 2008-2011.

Evaluating contemporary business changes against the backdrop of the concept of turbulent business environment presented by Ansoff in the '70s allows us to identify a new way of interpreting Ansoff's description of turbulence as the key characteristic of the business environment. The new business landscape, described by VUCA (volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity, BANI (brittle, anxious, nonlinear, incomprehensible) or RUPT (rapid, unpredictable, paradoxical, tangled) acronyms, is complex, illegible and intensified by COVID-19 and the war in Ukraine. It results in shortening the lifecycle of the organisation as well as the importance needing to be attributed to an organisation's predisposition towards remaining resilient in the face of turbulence. The paper is based on primary research and aims to identify the role of marketing in contemporary business environment and future development in the context of the idea of resilient organisations. The identified business challenges are addressed using the described marketing functions - 'customer advocacy', 'business owner' and 'professional manager'.

Research background: A lot of companies in the market create a variety of situations in which they compete with one another. At the same time companies crave for the same pool of demand, and in fact the money held by the buyers. Attempts to define the notion of com-petitiveness of the company appear frequently in scientific publications and in the research conducted by various institutions in different countries.
