The author examines selected scholarly studies available in English translation, and the ways in which they form or deform the understanding of the Prague Linguistic Circle for the English speaking reader. The contribution aims to show how the semantic shifts alter some theoretical concepts of the Prague School theorists. The semantic shifts mentioned here are indicative of both individual concretization in the sense introduced by Roman Ingarden, and in its broader meaning formulated by Felix Vodička. The selected texts are mostly present in collections chosen by scholars, who are not necessarily specializing in drama or theatre. They contain three sorts of semantic shifts: terms, titles and editorial interventions.

Rojek Patrycja, Konkretyzacja estetyczna w Zwierzętach nocy (2016) Toma Forda [Aesthetic Concretization in Tom Ford’s Nocturnal Animals (2016)]. „Przestrzenie Teorii” 32. Poznań 2019, Adam Mickiewicz University Press, pp. 401–416. ISSN 1644-6763. DOI 10.14746/pt.2019.32.22. The subject of Austin Wright’s novel Tony and Susan (published in 1993) is the reader’s experience. The peculiar relationship that forms between the main female character - a reader of literary fiction – and the novel itself as well as its author, inspired in 2016 Tom Ford to capture the specifics of the same relationships using the language of moving images. This article presents the effects of studying the complex system of communication situations occurring in the novel and its film adaptation: each of them contains an additional story around which further author-reader relationships are formed. The analysis shows that a significant part of the film’s plot is not a direct insight into the novel, but its concretization projected by a female protagonist. Tom Ford’s film is therefore considered in relation to Roman Ingarden’s theory on aesthetic concretization.

The article argues that a rethinking of the idea of concretization, which in Roman Ingarden’s book Das literarische Kunstwerk (1931) changes the identity of literary work, is transformed into a subject of structural literary history in Jan Mukařovský’s interpretations of Karel Hynek Mácha’s work (1936). The author describes the act of transformation with reference to a debate on Ingarden’s phenomenological aesthetics in which René Wellek criticizes the philosopher’s non-historical point of view and his whole concept of literature.

This study returns to the question of concretization and the project of exploring the life of a literary work, as considered by its ‘founders’ Roman Ingarden and Felix Vodička. Considering the distinction between Vodička’s and Ingarden’s conceptions, the author tries to determine in which direction the ‘Ingardenian’ concept of exploring the life of a literary work could lead. After reflecting on Vodička’s limitations in his exploration of critical responses to works of literature, the article attempts to outline the ways in which research might be guided to capture the life of literary works at its fullest

The paper discusses an issue of the relation between particular and abstract properties in the context of truthmaking. It proposes an axiomatic generalization of the concept of concretization of properties on the concept of concretization of relations.

b2_In its time it also presented a challenge to literary studies and history, whose interpretations had themselves confirmed these concretizations, and it anticipated by many years literary historical research into the Biedermeier idyll, which highlighted the text elements stressing the contradictions which Němcová endeavoured to supress, smooth over, patch up or reconcile within her work.
