Educational establishments have for years been seen as organizations in which various social groups function. Each of them is guided by different goals in creating a school community. The diversity of interests increases the possibility of conflicts between members of the group. The director plays a key role as the leader of the school. How far people will go in deepening or mitigating any conflicts or disputes is dependent on the director’s way of managing the team. The article aims to show the influence of the leadership style represented by the school director proposed by G. Avery (2008) on the frequency and cause of conflict. An important aspect at work is how to resolve misunderstandings. The author highlights the negative and positive aspects of the occurrence of conflict situations in educational institutions in Poland, which can lead to the further development of these organizations in society.

This article employs selected, basic theories of intergroup relations to examine and interpret the anti-Polish sentiments after the Brexit referendum in the United Kingdom. It argues these theories have a universal utility for analyzing and explaining inter-group conflicts in multiracial and multicultural societies. The value of this article lies in applying a novel combination of theories to study these sentiments; it also critically reflects on the existing literature regarding the intergroup relations.

The article shows the influence of ethno-social problems on the Ukrainian-Polish relations in Right-Bank Ukraine. Author in the debate with researchers of the issued problem proves that at the late 18th and early 19th centuries Polish-Ukrainian relations weren’t of antagonistic character neither in the ethno-social nor in the ethno-political sphere. The author doesn’t idealize relations between Ukrainian peasants and Polish landowners, but argues that the nobility understood sense of human dignity and needed the support of the local inhabitants, especially after the defeat of the rebellion in 1830-1831. Peasants realized that their socialeconomic situation wouldn’t change: Russian landowners would come instead of Polish landowners. Therefore, there appeared political organizations aimed at complete emancipation of the peasants, transferring the lands to the property of peasants without compensation and the complete political equality irrespective of the social origin, religion and nationality.

This paper examines the characteristics of news translation during wars and conflicts. There is limited research available concerning the issues of English-Arabic news translation, especially during conflicts. Based on an analysis of 11 CNN news headlines and Al-Jazeera parallel translations during the 2003 Iraq War, this study discusses the mechanics of news translation and interpretation and the strategies and challenges involved. Particularly, the paper explores news translation in the context of global information flows across the boundaries of space, language and culture. Building on existing research on news translation, and employing critical discourse and framing analyses, the study shows how news coverage of the Iraq War was framed to serve the competing narratives of war chroniclers as active participants in the conflict.

Three traditions of the understanding politics, which have been traced in this article are: 1. politics as participation, 2. politics as conflict and the exercise of force, and 3. politics as a governing process. The first tradition was founded by the ancient Greek philosophers, especially Aristotle. Its main thesis was the unity of politics, society and ethics. Politics in this tradition was understood as a civic activity motivated by the ideas of justice and public good. This classic tradition constitutes a marginal current of the contemporary empirical theory. The second (modern) tradition in political theory understands politics as a sphere of conflict to be resolved by the exercise of force. It takes the origins in the Machiavellian and Hobbesian political writing. The third tradition – politics as a governing process- is a dominant paradigm of the contemporary theory of politics. Its key concepts are: group pluralism, public policy, performance politics and governance.

The study deals with the issue of possibility to revitalize the society through revitalization of the inside school processes. The conflict as an important concept of these processes is introduced: strategy of resolving conflict should be deeply rooted in the school “philosophy”, school and class management. The study is divided into two parts: in the first part of the study, we are presenting basic approaches towards education, which are working with the concept of conflict. Focus is put predominantly on understanding positive values of resolving conflicts in a constructive manner and on implementation of identical procedures for conflict resolving for all students and school staff. In the second part of the contribution we are presenting an example of the concrete program, which is based upon these approaches. It is an educational program designed for teaching staff of individual schools: as we have to take into account some obstacles in the program implementation, we propose optimal steps in procedures based on own experience gained from programs realized in last two decades.
