The article is dedicated to contextuality of particles in Polish language. The author calls for a understanding contextuality as a language unit's requirement of a directly preceeding text having its own TRS, which is somehow connected with elements of TRS introduced by the language unit. Generally speaking, the connection consists in coforming the two subordinate structures into one TRS in a frame of superordinate theme. Erroneous thoughts on contextuality of particles are shown by presenting three language units seen by some linguists as contextual, namely tylko ‘only’, też ‘also’ and wręcz ‘simply’. The author points out that contextuality, which is regarded as a matter of their meaning is in fact a consequence of their usage.

The author discusses Ewa Walusiak's proposal to distinguish three homogenous and synonymous language units belonging to three groups: prepositions, particles and conjunctions. It is argued that the criteria used by Walusiak do not allow for clear differentiation of the three groups. Therefore the author suggests an opposite hypothesis to be true: all of the language units in question belong to one and only one group of particles. The final part of the article is devoted to a preliminary semantic distinction between na dodatek, w dodatku, na dobitkę, na dobitek, na dokładkę and na domiar złego.

The paper deals with the relationship between conversation and different contexts as well as constraints of research which appear within scientific disciplines analysing interpersonal communication, especially within pragmatics. It is pointed that the studies on conversation ought to be reinforced with an epistemological approach.

The article is devoted to semantic and grammatical description of two of the four strenghtening particles: żeby było_ and co_. These are very interesting language units, not attested in dictionaries, the only ones in the group of particles containing valency positions. Despite the semantic similarity between them and the two other items of the group - tym bardziej and co dopiero - they tend to occur in different sentence structures, i.e. containing joint conjuctions, restrictive or analogy particles. They do not occur in the context of non-assertive sentences. This paper considers the type of structure formed by the examined language units, the possibilities of filling their valency positions and, in result, their meaning.

How to analyze contextuality of metatextual language units? Notes on the relation: TRS – particle semanticsThe presented article is devoted to further (after Kisiel 2010) discussion about contextuality of metatextual language units, especially particles. Having selected contextual particles as an example, the author shows how specific structuralisation of TRS is strictly connected with particle meaning. The observation leads to the conclusion that examination of TRS cannot be avoided when analysing particles. Untangling particles meaning has to be based on describing the TRS they work on. Such a procedure has been only recently applied to Polish lexicography.

This article is about the evolution of the concept of civil society which has been taking place in response to the changing socio-political context. This process can be observed from two different perspectives. On the one hand, the concept is clearly contextual-it is always embedded in the problems of particular times and particular societies. On the other hand, the observed changes have a common vector. This can be seen in the parallel vicissitudes of the concept and its designates-social emancipation in modern times has been turbulent and erratic. One of the main advocates of this perspective is Amartya Sen (2002). This perspective also helps us to view contemporary civil societies as located on the aforementioned vector. This article tries to reconstruct it using a taxonomical analysis of aggregated data from the International Social Survey Programme 2004: Citizenship. The diversity of attitudes and patterns of civil activity in contemporary democracies is certainly multidimensional but the main axis is apparently defined by the post-industrial social formation and post-materialistic orientation

The authors discuss the possibilities of applying the law of proximity as one of the categories of gestalt psychology to describe the social communication. The first part considers the mutual determinants of sensory and cognitive processes, including the phenomenon of cognitive penetrability and the phenomenon of semantic priming. In the following parts, the authors show how the law of proximity is implemented in various types of discourses. In visual communication (especially in film and photography), the law of proximity is the basis of collage editing. The authors describe the principles by which semantic inference is made in such discourses. The law of proximity also significantly influences the processing of information in speech. In poetic texts, the compactness of the line sequence is based on this principle, i.e. what R. Jakobson defined as the transfer of equivalence from the selection axis to the combination axis. In artistic, journalistic or rhetorical texts, the proximity of words in the text contributes to the emergence of semantic implications, i.e. allusive meanings.

Artykuł wstępny składa się z dwóch części. Pierwsza jest wprowadzeniem w złożoność kontekstów kulturowych kontynentu afrykańskiego i ukierunkowaniem na odczytanie owej złożoności jako specyficznej i istotnej struktury rzeczywistości kulturowej świata. Druga część wprowadza czytelnika w zagadnienia podjęte przez zespół projektowy TPAAE, poświęcone tradycji i transformacjom kenijskiego regionu przybrzeżnego.

In the field of science and journalism an American theologian and bishop John R. Quinn asked about the nature of the Church and the perspectives for ecclesiology development. The article is a presentation of his approach to the issue of collegiality and an attempt at collating this idea with some other contemporary approaches. With reference to theological and historical strands, I presented the relationship between the model of the Church and the nature of the Holy Trinity as well as ecclesiastical consequences of the selected moments from the first centuries of Christianity. As far as perspectives for the future are concerned, the creation of cultural patriarchates is suggested, which would allow for decentralization and lead to greater sensitivity of the Church and her teaching to local contexts.

The article gives an idea of a new conceptualization of lifelong learning taking into account that learning in the life course is framed by cultural and mentality patterns. The background resource of our learning potential represents both an intimate personal dimension and a vivid social aspect. The concept of ‘biographicity’ has been created as an expression of this interwovenness. Empirical examples from the US society, from China and Germany show interesting differences of mental framing patterns in lifelong learning processes.
