Although it is increasingly common for foreign language teachers to rely on external, online tools and resources, coursebooks are still fundamental elements of classroom-based FLT in many parts of the world. The study presented in the article therefore sets out to explore English Language Teaching (ELT) and German Language Teaching (GLT) coursebook packages available for use in Hungarian secondary education in terms of their print and digital components, shedding light on the ways in which publishers are trying to keep pace with freestanding digital materials. It thereby aims to highlight current global trends in relation to digitization in foreign language coursebook publishing.

The article concerns theoretical premises leading to the development of a comprehensive Rus-sian pronunciation course for foreigners. The author of Fonetyka rosyjska. Praktyczny przewodnik po wymowie i intonacji z ćwiczeniami, was guided by two principles, meaning that the phonological system of the native language may be a starting point and the articulation base for learning foreign pronunciation as well as that the next learning units should be based on the most difficult parts of Russian phonetics – especially those in which an interference with Polish language is observed, and those which involve pronunciation mistakes, frequently made by Polish speaking people learn-ing Russian. Finally, the material layout consists of simultaneous isolation of difficulties during the systematic introduction of the new phonetic elements.

The article examines the process of teaching English for specific purposes at the Faculty of Tourism of the University of Maribor, Slovenia using coursebooks and authentic supplementary materials. The survey has shown that the students of the Faculty of Tourism prefer supplementary authentic materials to coursebooks because they find them sufficiently interesting or challenging. Specially designed classroom materials that are put into the Moodle by the teacher also offer opportunities for various activities in lesson planning for teaching, listening, speaking, reading and writing. Another important aspect of supplementary materials is that they facilitate the teacher’s creativity. However, there are advantages and disadvantages to using only coursebooks or only specially prepared classroom materials, and both - coursebooks and supplementary materials - should be used only after careful consideration. Although authentic materials may contain complex grammatical structures and difficult vocabulary, they bring real-life situations into classrooms, and students therefore find them very motivating, the survey has shown.

Preamble to Core Curriculum of General Education for Gymnasia and Post-Gymnasium Schools provides a really important statement concerning health education: (…) health education is an important task of schools on 3rd and 4th educational stages. Its goal is to develop an attitude of care for one’s own and other people’s health and an ability to create a health-friendly environment. The health education is not an individual part of general teaching, thus its contents are included into curriculum of other subjects, especially to science and biology, but not only to science-related subjects). The core curriculum is a foundation not only to build documents connected with didactical planning, but also especially with process of teaching. Additionally all the coursebooks used in school have to be strictly related to goals of education and teaching content written in curriculum and must be approved by the Ministry of Education. The aim of research was to investigate the level of health education contents (included in science core curriculum for classes: 4th to 6th) implementation in all science school books for ISCED 1 to check whether the teaching contents referring to the health education are compatible to the new core curriculum and if it may lead to shaping of the students’ health awareness. What is important – the analyse was not aimed at making any ranking of textbooks or choosing the best one.

The aim of the article is to present an analysis of the assessment of the use of information and communication technology (ICT) in conventional textbooks for teaching English. After presenting the theoretical framework of the new core curriculum in terms of autonomy and ICT application, the study describes the way in which ICT tools are integrated or ignored in current English textbooks. The study covered textbooks used in the seventh grade of primary school. Six of the eight (one per publisher) textbooks available on the market were selected for this purpose. Qualitative research comprised a thorough evaluation of tasks which comprised explicit references to ICT. The quality of the analysed didactic materials was determined by the potential level of supporting students’ autonomy by using the coursebook tasks in question, measured through a specially designed Likert scale. The conclusions served to propose changes and improvements to these textbooks.
