Starting from emotion culture as a current phenomenon in mass media communication, this article concentrates on practices of emotionalization. First, however, media, areas of emotion and alternative publics are explained from various perspectives. They condition the emotionalization in texts and bring it about. Using the example of some previous studies on digital forms of communication, concrete practices of emotionalization are named and explained.

The terrorist attacks repeatedly determine the headlines of the coverage in the mass media. Some focus primarily on the facts, others focus on the horror and grief. The focus of the present article is therefore on the comparison of reporting on terrorist attacks in the German tabloid and quality press with regard to the strategies of emotionalization using language.

This paper discusses the emotionality of sports press releases and the very mechanism of emotionalization of reception, which, following Barańczak (1975), is treated here as one of the mechanisms that allow the discoursal persuasive function. This mechanism, through the active impact of a given text on the recipient’s emotional and behavioural spheres, is to block their intellectual and reflective abilities in order to stimulate processes of emotional reception of the text. Thus, the emotional potential of a text promotes the intentional induction or intensification of certain states in the recipient. Such texts, furthermore, may display different levels of such a potential, conditional upon the purpose, content, linguistic items applied, style or tone of expression. Based on such precepts, emotionality, similarly to evaluation, are both perceived as persuasive strategies, and considered to be immanent elements of sports discourse texts.

W niniejszym tekście poruszono problematykę emocjonalności przekazów prasowych o tematyce sportowej oraz samego mechanizmu emocjonalizacji odbioru, który za Barańczakiem (1975) traktowany jest jako jeden z mechanizmów pozwalających na realizację funkcji perswazyjnej. Mechanizm ten poprzez aktywne oddziaływanie danego tekstu na sferę emocjonalną i behawioralną odbiorcy blokować ma jego zdolności intelektualno-refleksyjne na rzecz stymulowania procesów emocjonalnej recepcji tekstu. Emocjonalny potencjał tekstu pozwala zatem na intencjonalne wywołanie lub spotęgowanie określonych stanów u odbiorcy, przy czym dany tekst wykazywać może różne jego poziomy, zależnie od celu, przekazywanych treści, użytych środków językowych, stylu czy tonu wypowiedzi. Opierając się na takim postrzeganiu zagadnienia emocjonalność, podobnie jak wartościowanie, postrzegane jako strategie perswazyjne uznane są za immanentne elementy tekstów dyskursu sportowego.

Difficult socio-political situation in Ukraine creates specific media discourse, which in turn gives rise to a number of phenomena, connected to information war categories, war of meanings, hate speech etc. Active entry of military issues into web news content affects traditional approach to the media-text drafting. The report examines the trends of shock visual content and its announcement in the web headlines. The influence of the content emotionalization, which is one of the common features for conflict discourse, not only on text style, but also on features of page making, selection and use of photo illustrations, headline creation, is studied. The material covering military developments usually involve deaths, injuries, loss, destruction of settlements as a result of hostilities, that is, they focus on information on suffering of both military and civilians. This results in stronger integration of shock visual content into the news, which in turn may be used as manipulation and propaganda tool. On the one hand it is used to demonstrate crimes of the enemy, on the other — as an evidence of Ukrainian military success. From the point of view of ethic and humanism the justification of such tactic is doubtful in both cases. However, the study shows that open image of death, blood, injuries in the materials and the announcement of such content in headlines are the cause of high popularity of such publications, and this mainstreams the problem of dehumanizing impact both on material’s subjects and on media audience.

Emocje należą do najbardziej elementarnego obszaru ludzkiej psychiki. Paradoks związany z nimi polega na tym, że z jednej strony tworzą one płaszczyznę łącząca gatunek ludzki ze światem zwierząt, z drugiej strony emocjonalizacja i narracje afektywne obecne są w niezwykle wysublimowanych wytworach kultury. Niniejszy artykuł wychodzi od krótkiego wstępu teoretycznego, przechodząc następnie do próby pokazania ujętego diachronicznie potencjału afektywnego tęsknoty jako uczucia, w znacznym stopniu wpływającego na charakter muzyki doby romantyzmu.

Emotions belong to the most elementary area of the human psyche. The paradox associated with them is that on the one hand, they create a ground connecting the human species with the world of animals. On the other hand, emotionalization and affective narratives are present in extremely sublime products of culture. This article begins with a short theoretical introduction, then moves on to an attempt to show the diachronic affective potential of longing as a feeling that significantly influenced the character of the music of the Ro-mantic era.

Emotionen gehören zum grundsätzlichen Bereich der menschlichen Psyche. Paradoxerweise verbinden sie einerseits die menschliche Gattung mit der Tierwelt, andererseits lassen sich die Emotionalisierung und affektive Narrationen in hochsublimierten Kulturerzeugnissen erkennen. Der vorliegende Beitrag beginnt mit einer kurzen theoretischen Einleitung und zeigt dann aus der diachronischen Perspektive das affektive Potenzial der Sehnsucht als eine Emotion, die auf bedeutende Weise den Charakter der romantischen Musik geprägt hat.
