The article points to anthropocentrism as one of the main categories of the encyclical Laudato Si’. It is, therefore, the key to the proper understanding and reception of the encyclical’s message. This concept also defines the position of Pope Francis in today’s dispute related to identifying the causes behind the crisis of modern civilization which finds its expression, among others, in the environmental crisis. Although the Pope associates its cause with tyrannical or distorted anthropocentrism, he does not juxtapose it with biocentrism, but rather, with appropriate anthropocentrism. Such anthropocentrism is an expression of proper anthropology, which is the basis of appropriate ecology.

Artykuł wskazuje na antropocentryzm jako jedną z głównych kategorii encykliki Laudato si’. Stanowi więc klucz do zrozumienia i adekwatnego przyjęcia jej przesłania. Tym samym określa stanowisko papieża Franciszka w dzisiejszym sporze o rozpoznanie przyczyn kryzysu cywilizacji nowożytnej, który wyraża się także w kryzysie środowiska naturalnego. Choć papież wiąże jego przyczyny z antropocentryzmem despotycznym, nie przeciwstawia mu jakiegoś biocentryzmu, lecz antropocentryzm właściwy, czyli osobowy. Taki antropocentryzm stanowi wyraz właściwej antropologii, na podstawie której możliwa jest właściwa ekologia.

Encyklika Laudato si’ to katolicki dokument, która syntetyzuje refleksję nad głównymi tematami ekologii, ochrony przyrody i ochrony klimatu, prezentuje nową perspektywę dla aktywności ekologicznej w świetle zasad ekologii integralnej. W wielu krajach encyklika ta stała się punktem odniesienia dla katolików w kontekście kryzysu ekologicznego. Zwłaszcza, że daje prezentuje ona perspektywę religijną i duchową, pokazuje konkretne przykłady stylu życia jednocześnie ekologicznego i chrześcijańskiego. W rozdz. 5 kreśli też koncepcję dialogu, który daje nadzieję na porzucenie spirali autodestrukcji, w jakiej pogrąża się ludzkość. Dla budowy tego dialogu proponowana jest koncepcja humanizmu komunikacyjnego i jego mechanizmy, czyli działania restytuujące wartości i kreujące wspólnotę. Fundamentem programu jest personalizm i hermeneutyka chrześcijańska, a jego celem Kościół zainteresowany światem i jego problemami, który chce razem z innymi powiedzieć STOP niszczeniu Ziemi i jej nieodpowiedzialnej eksploatacji.

The encyclical Laudato si’ is a Catholic document synthesizing the reflection on the main issues related to ecology as well as to nature and climate protection. It provides a new perspective for ecological activity in the light of integral ecology principles. In many countries, this encyclical has become a point of reference for Catholics in the context of the ecological crisis, especially by the fact of its highlighting the religious and spiritual perspective and giving concrete examples of both ecological and Christian lifestyles. Chapter 5 of the encyclical outlines, moreover, the concept of dialogue that brings hope for abandoning the spiral of self-destruction in which humanity is now sinking. The concept of communicative humanism and its mechanisms i.e. actions restoring values and creating a community have been proposed to establish the platform for this dialogue. The program is based on personalism and Christian hermeneutics, and its goal is a Church interested in the world and its problems, a one which on a par with others wants to say STOP to the destruction of the earth and its irresponsible exploitation.

Jednym z istotnych zadań Kościoła w porządku doczesnym jest troska o dzieło stworzenia i samego człowieka, a czasami wręcz obrona ludzkości przed zagrożeniami, wyzwolonego od jakichkolwiek odniesień etyczno-moralnych, postępu technicznego. Troska o wspólny dom nie jest tyko domeną Kościoła katolickiego, również inne kościoły i wspólnoty chrześcijańskie – podobnie jak i inne religie, dokonują refleksji nad zagadnieniami związanymi z degradacją środowiska ludzkiego i naturalnego (LS, 7). Celem artykułu jest próba dostrzeżenia i analizy ekumenicznych impulsów papieża Franciszka w kontekście całościowej ekologii, uwzgledniającej wzajemne powiązania różnych wymiarów rzeczywistości. Dlatego w trakcie rozważań są prezentowane najpierw papieska diagnoza kryzysu społeczno-ekologicznego (1); propozycje działań ukierunkowanych na rozwój ekologii integralnej (2), a następnie zaproszenie do dialogu w trosce o wspólny dom (3). Podstawą dla prowadzonych analiz są dwa papieskie dokumenty: encyklika Laudato si’ (LS) i posynodalna adhortacja apostolska Querida Amazonia (QA).

One of the important tasks of the Church in the temporal order are concern for the work of creation and for man himself, and sometimes even the defense against threats of technical progress, conducted from any ethical and moral references. The concern for the common home is not only a domain of the Catholic Church. Similarly, other churches and Christian communities as well as other world religions reflect on the issues relating to the degradation of human and natural environment. Thus, the aim of these reflections is an attempt to recognize ecumenical impulses of the Pope in the context of integral ecology that takes into account the interlinkages between different dimensions of reality. Therefore, during the considerations will be presented firstly the papal diagnosis of the social and ecological crisis (1), then the proposals of actions aiming at the development of integral ecology (2) as well as an invitation to a dialogue resulting from the care for the common home (3). The main sources of the analysis undertaken are the two papal documents, namely the encyclical Laudato si’ (LS) and the post-synodal apostolic exhoration Querida Amazonia (QA).
