The article aims to present the features of an enterprise upon which public administration units are patterned. The booming developing economy and society have brought about new challenges for the public sector. On the one hand, public organisations observe the need for far-reaching reforms and improvement in their structure, which in turn results in their departure from a bureaucratic model of administration. On the other, the country’s citizens expect high quality and professional services. In order to satisfy these expectations, public sector entities more frequently apply methods employed by enterprises. A new concept of management in administration places emphasis on the division of tasks, the appropriate establishment of goals, analysis and monitoring of results and effective financial management, and providing managers with more independence in action. Such solutions enable public institutions to attain certain standards in the public sector and make them citizen-friendly.

This paper presents the meaning of trust in the operation of enterprises and presents three original research tools to measure three areas of trust (internal, inter-organizational and consumer), which the author uses to form a complete construction of trust at the enterprise level. Measurement assumptions are based on literature studies. The proposed division trust into three areas is justified by the fact that the process of trust development involves various entities and different factors determine specific areas of trust. The author tried to organize and demon¬strate the most relevant contemporary dimensions of trust, including employee care, concern for stakeholders, competence, reliability, honesty and openness. The diagnosed dimensions of trust at the general level were then developed into an operational and measurement form, which should best describe the proposed areas of trust. In the process of measurement of trust within the classification proposed was assessed and ap¬propriate research medel were developed. Examples of empirical allowed to determine the usefulness of the proposed measurement tools. The research tools used for this purpose are comprehensible and suitable for management practice, they do not oversimplify reality. The concept of systemic trust analysis satisfies the reliability criterion and it can be hoped that it reflects, to the highest possible degree, the reality in which enterprises operate.

Przedsiębiorstwo, stanowiąc system działający w otoczeniu, dąży do zachowania z nim stanu homeostazy.

The paper aims to determine the role of social capital in a process known as the internationalization of the firm. The first part of the article focuses on the concept of corporate social capital as developed by economists Roger Leenders and Shaul Gabbay. The author discusses the features of ties between individual businesses and the structure of these ties as factors shaping the quality of social capital gathered inside a network. The author identifies social capital with a network of business ties, describing social capital as a term with a neutral connotation. Then the network model of the internationalization of the firm is invoked to build a theoretical bridge between social capital and the internationalization of the firm. Under this approach, the main factor behind the internationalization of the firm is membership in an appropriate network of ties. Finally, the author reviews research reports in terms of both gains and potential burdens linked with participation in the network from the perspective of the internationalization process. The coexistence of the positive and negative aspects of corporate social capital may suggest that social capital both stimulates and impedes the internationalization of the firm, Doryń says; however, the current state of empirical research in the analyzed area does not make it possible to put forward any normative recommendations to businesses, she adds. Overall, Doryń concludes that the issue of social capital and its influence on the internationalization of enterprises should be examined in combination with the specific goals of the firm.

The article analyzes the entrepreneurial attitudes and behaviors of students in selected European countries. The results of an international study of entrepreneurship among full-time students (SES 2006) are presented, along with a theoretical discussion of entrepreneurship in the context of economic theory. A comparative analysis method is used. The entrepreneurial activities of students and their plans to start their own business in the future are analyzed. Kunasz also looks at barriers to putting these plans into practice and evaluates students’ readiness to start their own business. He tries to determine why students opt for a particular type of business activity. The results obtained in the study indicate that, compared with their counterparts in other European countries, Polish students assess their entrepreneurial potential as high and tend to gain their first professional experiences while still in college. Most of them want to work for a private company in the future; however, the prospect of working in a state institution or running one’s own business is also described as attractive. The main criteria in this area include self-fulfillment and job satisfaction, pay, and opportunities for professional growth. Potential barriers include lack of familiarity with procedures for starting one’s own company and difficulties in obtaining funds to start up a business. Still, Polish students are optimistic in evaluating their professional prospects and expect that their careers will quickly gain momentum once their prospective businesses get off the ground.

The article sets out to present a set of instruments to measure the advancement of globalization processes at the mesoeconomic level. This necessitates efforts to bring order to terminology involving the microeconomic aspects of globalization. The author offers an analytical arrangement for the examination of the influence of globalization processes on enterprises. The proposed instruments to measure the advancement of globalization processes at the mesoeconomic level are an attempt to straighten out the terminology and outline general rules and directions of further research, which should serve both company managers and researchers. The data presented by the author show the scope and dynamism of globalization and provide an analytical framework to determine the effect of globalization processes on enterprises. The proposed methods of measurement indicate the importance of knowledge about the advancement and dynamism of globalization in the sector as well as the formulation and implementation of enterprise strategies. The diagnosis of the advancement of globalization processes in Wielkopolska’s manufacturing industry confirmed the usefulness of the developed method. The analysis points to a clear intensification in the effect of globalization on enterprises in the Wielkopolska region in the analyzed period, coupled with a high probability of further intensification of globalization changes in the area of individual measures.

The aim of the paper is to point out that the Monte Carlo simulation is an easy and flexible approach when it comes to forecasting risk of an asset portfolio. The case study presented in the paper illustrates the problem of forecasting risk arising from a portfolio of receivables denominated in different foreign currencies. Such a problem seems to be close to the real issue for enterprises offering products or services on several foreign markets. The changes in exchange rates are usually not normally distributed and, moreover, they are always interdependent. As shown in the paper, the Monte Carlo simulation allows for forecasting market risk under such circumstances.

The point of departure of EU State aid policy is laid down in the Treaty establishing the European Community (hereinafter the “Treaty”). This Treaty provides that State aid is, in principle, incompatible with the common market. However, the principle of incompatibility does not amount to a full-scale prohibition. In the EU countries state aid is permissible to promote the economic development (of areas where the standard of living is abnormally low or where there is serious underemployment) and to facilitate the development of certain economic activities or certain economic areas (where such aid does not adversely affect trading conditions contrary to the common interest). The provisions of the 2000 Lisbon Strategy and the “Europe 2020” Strategy are also important in determining the directions of state aid in the European Union. According to their assumptions the member countries have been required to: reduce the level of aid relative to GDP; reduce state aid which decreases competition; reorient sectoral aid to horizontal and regional aid; and change the forms of state aid-from passive to active instruments. The purpose of this paper is to present the directions of allocation of state aid in the EU countries during 2000-2011, and answer the question whether the resolutions contained in the Lisbon Strategy have been implemented. The research hypothesis is: have the changes in the size, direction and allocation of state aid taken place in accordance with the resolutions of the Lisbon Strategy.
