The article is devoted to the issue of professional training of labor force in Japan, provided by means of formal education. The constant development of labor force’s competencies has turned into the main prerequisite of business competitiveness. Thus, investigation of the ways by which it may be improved is particularly important. Asian developed countries in which human resource development is the issue of national concern can provide invaluable information. Diversified forms of professional de- velopment of personnel which contributed to the quality of training have attracted our attention. The author reveals the most effective types of providers, which offer formal training and its most popular forms. The goal groups, for whom the training courses are organized, have been found. The contents of professional training have been analyzed in their accordance with the labor market and demands of employers in Japan.

Celem autorki niniejszego artykułu jest określenie możliwości uczenia się poprzez szkolenia, uwarunkowań związanych z uczestnictwem i dostępnością szkoleń oraz ocena znaczenia wykorzystania szkoleń w procesie rozwoju wiedzy i umiejętności pracowników małych firm technologicznych w Polsce. Na podstawie przeprowadzonych badań jakościowych – wywiadów z pracownikami firm technologicznych – zidentyfikowano istotne czynniki oddziaływające na możliwości uczestnictwa w szkoleniach oraz określono czynniki kształtujące dostępność szkoleń dla pracowników badanych firm. Wśród głównych warunków uczestnictwa w szkoleniach wskazuje się brak lub niedostatek niezbędnej wiedzy i umiejętność dostrzeżony przez kierownictwo firmy, a czynnikiem determinującym uczestnictwo pracownika w szkoleniu okazało się głównie zajmowane przez niego stanowisko pracy i jej charakter. Autorka określa uwarunkowania i ocenia znaczenie szkoleń w kształtowaniu odpowiedniej wiedzy i umiejętności wśród pracowników małych firm technologicznych. Najistotniejszymi uwarunkowaniami w zakresie możliwości szkolenia pracowników małych firm technologicznych w świetle przeprowadzonych badań są oferta szkoleń dostępna na rynku oraz oczekiwania kierownictwa firm co do wiedzy i umiejętności zdobywanych i rozwijanych przez poszczególnych pracowników.

The purpose of this article is to determine the learning opportunities through formal training, identify factors shaping the possibility of participation in trainings and evaluate the importance of trainings in knowledge and skills development of employees in small technology firms in Poland. Based on qualitative research – interviews with employees of technology firms – the conditions related to participation in trainings were defined and the factors influencing the availability of training to the employees were identified. The lack or shortage of necessary knowledge and skills noticed by the management of the firms was found to be among the main conditions for participation in trainings, and the main determinant of an employee’s participation in trainings was the position held by the employee and the job character. The article assesses the factors and importance of training in the development of appropriate knowledge and skills among employees of small technology companies. In the light of the research, the szkoleniomain considerations in terms of the possibility of training employees of small technology companies are the training offer available in the market and expectations of the management of companies for critical knowledge and skills acquired and developed by individual employees.
